I decided to participate in this contest. So, my creation, a quick pizza on a yeast-free dough.

Ingredients:

Dough

1. Flour
2. Eggs
3. Kefir
4. Salt

Stuffing

1. Brownshweig dry sausage
2. Boiled sausage
3. Champignons mushrooms
4. Olives
5. Onions
6. Sweet bell pepper
7. Tomato
8. Parmesan cheese
9. Ketchup

It took half an hour to make the pizza.

This is a pizza contest.  And here everyone participated in the contest by making pizza with their own skills. But the picture you entered the contest with is never a pizza. It can be considered as cake. If you can't make pizza on your own then try again by watching videos on how to make pizza on YouTube. Hope you can make a good pizza next time.

I would call it a "pastry" type of thing, if not the cake. Nevertheless, he tried his best to participate.

You need to have basic cooking knowledge and skills before watching youtube videos for making Pizza. I have no experience of cooking, and hence I know that even by watching the youtube videos I may not be able to make a Pizza  

Respect, I have used wheat flour instead of white flour in this, Changing it does not turn the pizza into a pasty everyone has their own preference

I just updated mendace and LDL's new pizza in the gallery. I intentionally ignored some submissions as they are not some kind of pizzas. I removed some submissions from the gallery as well. Some people do Photoshop, and some others download images from the internet and submit them here. So, I had to ignore them and remove a few submissions. I hope this makes sense in case anyone wondering why I ignored them.

There might be a need to list which ones were left out and the reason(s) why.. .unless everyone considers the leaving out of submissions is totally clear...

I do agree that there are some pretty crappy submissions that seem to be photoshopped, AI generated or not a product of any effort, yet it could still be better to point out the reason(s) that they are being left out rather than "ignoring" the submission......

Some look like they had little to no effort and hardly even seem to fit the definition of what is a pizza.. but it still seems if there is ambiguity in respect to something that was submitted and if it seems to genuinely submitted and with actual personal efforts to make it, then it may well be better to allow that one to be entered and to attempt to receive votes.. rather than completely leaving such a submission out of the contest...

so I think, as I am typing this, I am heading towards believing that it is better to include everything and to give reasons for why they are left out mostly in the categories of photo shop or seemingly low effort trolling.. rather than "that ain't no pizza"... ... but if the conclusion is that the submission fails to fit the "definition of pizza" then that would be better to state it, rather than to "ignore" it.

Oh, by the way, it seems that some of the submissions do not necessarily realize that at least some of the meat (to the extent any is present in the pizza) might need to show on the outside of the pizza. and sure of course, there is no absolute rule in regards to that - but I might even speculate that the winning pizza is likely going to have meat and also that some of such meat will be located on the outer-most level of the pizza.. not to give away too many of the secrets of the "Italian" advantage - even though surely there are a lot of members who would like to "knock the italians" (not naming any names here) off their petard.. hahahahaha.. but good luck with those non-meat pizzas.. even though yeah members can vote for whatever they like.. including the dumb-ass vegan pizzas (or how many eggs might need to go into the pizza dough, if any).. let's see if the world converts (or at least the world of voters) into some kind of level of perversions - and I am not even going to claim that the pizza might not evolve over the years (hopefully we are not getting "beyond meat" submissions into the supposed "pizzas"  - I will not be able to resist saying something if I were to notice that level of dumb inserted into a so-called "pizzas").

If it's a pizza contest and someone submits an entry that is clearly not a pizza, what's the point then? If next year we make a pasta contest would you ever submit a risotto or a salad?

I'm sorry but are we actually debating what is considered pizza in 2023? Just a quick copy-paste from Wikipedia:

Pizza is a dish of Italian origin consisting of a usually round, flat base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and often various other ingredients, which is then baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven. [source]

If the "pizza" is not baked of course it can't be considered a pizza. If someone uses cake ingredients it can't be considered a pizza. I'm not saying that all the pizzas must be exactly as stated above but at least some basic steps must be followed.

I agree with you but the word "pizza" does not need to be defined as it does not need to be defined as "water" or "coca cola" we all know how these drinks are.  If I order a pizza, the waiter must bring me a circular pasta cooked in the oven (preferably wood-fired) with a layer of tomato on the surface up to half a centimeter from the edge covered with mozzarella.  This is the basis.  Finally, you can season it with some ingredients such as ham, mushrooms, peppers, salami, artichokes, etc... but any type of strange dough cannot be defined as pizza.  For the dough you need water, flour and yeast.  It's that simple and I don't expect a regulation to define what a pizza is if the contest plans to cook one.

I really didn't think that at this day and age when pizza is available all over the world we have to define what pizza actually is. Its like we are talking about some obscure meal only available in few remote villages God knows where and not one of the most popular dishes in the world.


By the way, for all those who really want to improve their pizza game (especially the dough which is by far the hardest thing to master) I suggest checking Vito Iacopelli YouTube channel. That guy is a very good pizzaiolo and what's even more important, he is willing to share his knowledge.

Not really, this is your preference. If we follow your description pizza al taglio is not a pizza. Pizza bianca is also not a pizza and pizza marinara is not a pizza.

That said,

An omelet is not pizza.
Ramen noodles mixed with eggs is not pizza.
A potato pancake with toppings is not pizza.

Based on everything seen, the contest could be renamed to "Pizza Parody"  

Honestly, I had a lot of fun looking at all the creations that were submitted for this contest. I don't know what's more twisted, pizza that looks like a salad or cooking pizza in a pot. What seems universal to most of the participants, is whatever they make as a base, it's enough to sprinkle tomato over it and voila... it's pizza. The strange thing is, someone took a picture of a pizza bought in a restaurant, even the professionally made one looks very little like a pizza.
I'm not sure I saw one or two that I might want to try eating.

At the beginning of the contest, fillippone warned about the possible abuse of AI, MidJourney for example really gave very good images of food, that's correct. At least we can be sure here, AI is certainly not used, it just doesn't have this much creativity as shown by many in this contest.

Friends, I congratulate everyone on Bitcoin Pizza Day!

For the third year in a row, the last week of May is a particularly pleasant time for me, as our family has another great opportunity to spend time in the family circle! This year I decided to abandon the idea of using a food printer to make authentic Bitcoins ... I also won't go into the details of how long it took me to make bitcoins even slightly symmetrical. I can say that today, thanks to cooking, I almost completely spent the day away from the laptop  

I will leave only a few photos here to focus your attention on these great pizzas.

I agree with you (sorry @mendace ), as long as it's made using a dough and it's baked, for me it's enough. No matter the shape, no matter the thickness nor the sauce, just bake it!
