Glad I was able to help you, just as someone helped me with that trick.
I was puzzled. Huh? What's wrong? What happening here? Then you came up with the solution. Thanks again!

Quote
Also, @mendace updated his pizza picture. Please update it the "hodl" pizza in the gallery!
I just updated mendace and LDL's new Pizza in the gallery. I intentionally ignored some submissions as they are not some kind of pizzas. I removed some submissions from the gallery as well. Some people do Photoshop, and some others download images from the internet and submit them here. So, I had to ignore them and remove a few submissions. I hope this makes sense in case anyone wondering why I ignored them.

There might be a need to list which ones were left out and the reason(s) why.. .unless everyone considers the leaving out of submissions is totally clear...

I do agree that there are some pretty crappy submissions that seem to be photoshopped, AI generated or not a product of any effort, yet it could still be better to point out the reason(s) that they are being left out rather than "ignoring" the submission......

Some look like they had little to no effort and hardly even seem to fit the definition of what is a pizza.. but it still seems if there is ambiguity in respect to something that was submitted and if it seems to genuinely submitted and with actual personal efforts to make it, then it may well be better to allow that one to be entered and to attempt to receive votes.. rather than completely leaving such a submission out of the contest...

so I think, as I am typing this, I am heading towards believing that it is better to include everything and to give reasons for why they are left out mostly in the categories of photo shop or seemingly low effort trolling.. rather than "that ain't no pizza"... ... but if the conclusion is that the submission fails to fit the "definition of pizza" then that would be better to state it, rather than to "ignore" it.

Well, I think JayJuanGee has a good point. But let me explain. Posting your Pizza in this thread is unnecessary to participate in this contest. Submitting your Pizza to the Discord server is more important than posting it here. Of course, I am not going to do it for everyone. I am trying to gather all the images in a gallery for a better view. Since you asked me for an explanation of why I ignored them, I will quote each of them and explain why I did not add them to Pizza Gallary.

Oh, oh, It seems like some of them deleted their submission  Cheesy

This is the Pizza from Mijanur_Rahman, which was also submitted for Pie Contest. You JJG Spotted that before me. So, I don't think I have to explain more about this.

This one was bought from a Pizza shop which he declared himself in another place.

Do we consider Smashed Potato As a Pizza?  Roll Eyes

Photoshopped Pizza. Deserve a Negative Tag Already for Cheating in a Contest.

Do you consider some salads as Pizza?

Another Salad Pizza?

Except for them, I still believe I've listed some low-quality/effort Pizza that barely looks like a pizza. Some of them deleted their entry, if I am not wrong. I hope my explanation makes sense. I am no one to judge if it's a pizza or not.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Since i could not attend the event this year, i send my love to my friends at the event with the pizza visuals i made last year. Everyone's pizza is great value and love to the traditional Bitcoin pizza event. Let's see how many pizzas we can buy with one bitcoin next year Smiley

That's all I can do. I couldn't decide whether to put Turkish sucuk or sausage in the Bitcoin logo but I thought that a better logo would come out with sausage. Decorating the edge of the sausages with ketchup made the logo prominent. I put the cheese of Balıkesir province from Turkey on the basis of the pizza. I think it's a good result. Love to all. Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day!

Dear Friends, here we are again.
It’s time to bake a new Pizza.
I have been looking at this moment since the last year’s contest. I knew a lot of new contestants, most of them from the Italian board would have entered the competition, so I had a few ideas in mind to improve my pizza.
As always, life derails your plans, so I had to adapt, improvise and overcome. I would say I had two ideas in mind; one of them made to the final pizza, while the other… well, maybe next year!

In brief: I decided to make the same pizza again as last year, detailing a little bit more about the process. As there has been a lot of debate on “what is a pizza”, I decided to propose my very own concept of pizza.
This is my particular interpretation of the concept, and be warned, I am pretty flexible about this. Not everyone is as accommodating as me. You won’t believe how much criticism the cheddar garment is.

Let’s start with the dough.
I used this recipe:

Impasto per pizza

I bet you know all the tricks to translate in your language.
I am posting here only the ingredients:

  • Manitoba flour 200 g
  • Flour 00 300 g
  • Room temperature water 300 ml
  • Salt up to 10 g
  • Fresh brewer's yeast (or 1.5 if dry) 4 g

No milk, no eggs, nothing but simple ingredients.
I followed the recipe; it’s all detailed on the website with nice pictures.
I let the dough grow for 12 hours.

I the following morning I started working the dough with my minimal abilities.

Please note the hairy wrist and the merit band.
Sadly, no merits were received during the video recording.

The dough in his final form
Starting to work on the dough, please note the hairy wrist and the merit band (#meritislife)

I recorded a video of the process, at least a part of:

Click the above image to enjoy the video of your truly merit rascal pizza baking.

This is the final result for the dough.
It should be done entirely by hand, leaving it a little bit thinner in the centre, and a little bit thicker on the borders. Not sure you can see it from the picture.

I moved onto a wooden plate ready to be transferred to the oven after being filled with ingredients.

First thing, a view of all the toppings: this is what in Italy can be called a Sicilian Pizza, although there is a lot of variation from pizzeria to pizzeria, as the recipes are not exactly coded.
Which other pizza variant could have a member of the Italian bitcointalk mafia prepared?

  • Tomato puree
  • Finely chopped mozzarella
  • Olives
  • capers
  • Anchovies
  • Oregan
  • Basil

Anchovies are from Cantabric Gulf. Olives are actually of a Ligurian variety. This has to do with personal tastes. You are free to use whichever version you prefer.
The most astute readers might have noticed there is something strange.

Now we are ready to start the preparation.
Firstly spread the tomato on the dough. Don't exaggerate with that, or it will dampen the dough too much.
With mozzarella you can go full throttle. If you buy fresh mozzarella remember to let it dry.
Cut it a few hours before letting it lose the water, otherwise, it will ruin the dough as well.
Otherwise, you can buy "mozzarella for pizza", which is already dry. Hear the Italian's screams in the background

Spread the tomato puree with a spoon,
Only a thin layer all over the tough.
Leave only a few centimetres to the border.
There is no "too much mozzarella".

You then go on with olives and capers. There are various kinds of each. The ones I picked are maybe not the most common and are due to my particular taste. Common choices for olives are black ones from Gaeta (with or without pit) or Greek ones. Capers as well have pretty infinite variations: with or without flowers, in salt, in oil, in vinegar.

Use a simple bidimensional Sobol sequence
to spread the olives in a pseudorandom distribution.

Capers are a true delicacy.

We are not done with toppings. Anchovies are a signature topping of this kind of pizza. You might find more familiar with some type of meat on the pizza, but this is an authentic Italian delicacy.

Strange anchovies positioning on the pizza.
There is a reason for this, believe me.
Oregan comes in may forms.
This is the one that guarantees the most perfume.

We are almost done. Only a finishing touch with a leave of basil. In the meantime, I have been preheating the oven to the maximum temperature, 250°, for a good 20 minutes. I have a cooking slab to cook the pizza on.

I reckon basil might be really difficult to find outside Italy.

Sadly, electric oven.
Mine can get to only 250°, which is almost half of the professional ones.

This is the final result:

I am pretty satisfied with the result. The crust looks juicy, and the toppings are well-cooked.

The food of the gods

The pizza would be ready. My signature speciality for the bitcointalk.org contest is missing: cheddar lettering!
This year I decided to go the extra mile and have a 3d printed Bitcoin logo!

Thank TG:@daniele_zomg, my fellow Telegram printer, I printed a Bitcoin Logo cookie cutter from thingiverse.

I wouldn’t recommend doing this to anyone in their right mind, as I guess the PETG used to stamp it is not really suitable for edible products.

Anyway, I used it to “print” the central Bitcoin logo. The other letters were instead manually carved. Space for improvement for next year, maybe?

[

Cheddar slices and a 3D-printed Bitcoin logo: what can go wrong?

I had to experiment with different techniques to get an acceptable result.

Assembling all together:

I hope you liked this little post.
Maybe you will find it helpful to cook your next pizza.
There is no harm in trying, like while looking to have kids. Even trying to bake a pizza can be fun!
Also last but not least, this post can act as a motivation and guide for next year's contest!

Guys, just to let you know I posted my pizza on Discord.
I am going to later edit this post with all the pictures, videos, recipies, shenanigans and 3D printed material I used to bake my pizza.
I planned something different for this year contest, but I had to adapt, overcome and improvise.
I have already witnessed it on Discord, you sent it a few hours ago.
I'm eagerly awaiting the recipe you used to make your pizza, considering you still hold the champion title, I'm quite confident its taste matches its presentation.

Project Title: Sustainable Pizza Oven Using Bitcoin Miners - Babo's Oven

Project Description:
The project aims to combine the technological innovation of Bitcoin miners with the production of delicious and sustainable food. The main objective is to create a pizza oven that utilizes the energy produced by Bitcoin miners to bake pizzas, thereby reducing the environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining and promoting an environmentally friendly cooking option.

The project operates by harnessing the high temperatures generated by Bitcoin miners during the mining process. Typically, these devices produce a significant amount of heat as a byproduct of cryptographic processing. Instead of dissipating this heat into the environment, the project proposes to channel it into a heating system for a pizza oven.

The pizza oven would leverage the thermal energy generate by Bitcoin miners to heat the baking chamber. This would eliminate the need for traditional energy sources such as gas or electricity, thereby reducing CO2 emissions associated with pizza baking.

To implement the project, the following steps would be taken:

*    Research and selection of energy-efficient Bitcoin miners: Identify Bitcoin miners with a high heat output-to-electricity consumption ratio. These devices would be capable of generating a sufficient amount of heat for our purpose.
*    Design and construction of heat transfer system: Develop a system of pipes or ducts that connect the Bitcoin miners to the pizza oven. This system would transfer the heat generated by the miners directly to the baking chamber.
*    Construction of the pizza oven: Build an energy-efficient oven designed to maximize the thermal energy supplied by the Bitcoin miners. The oven should be capable of reaching the necessary temperatures for pizza baking quickly and efficiently.
*     Testing and system optimization: Conduct tests to asses the efficiency and reliability of the Bitcoin-powered pizza oven. Any necessary improvements or optimizations would be made to ensure maximum efficiency and the quality of the cooked pizzas.
*    Practical implementation: Once the development and testing phase is complete, the Bitcoin-powered pizza oven could be utilized in a real-world setting, such as a restaurant or pizzeria, to demonstrate its effectiveness as a sustainable cooking option.

The Sustainable Pizza Oven Using Bitcoin Miners project aims to showcase how technological innovation can be applied across different sectors to promote eco-friendly solutions.

If it's a pizza contest and someone submits an entry that is clearly not a pizza, what's the point then? If next year we make a pasta contest would you ever submit a risotto or a salad?

Based on everything seen, the contest could be renamed to "Pizza Parody"  Wink

Honestly, I had a lot of fun looking at all the creations that were submitted for this contest. I don't know what's more twisted, pizza that looks like a salad or cooking pizza in a pot. What seems universal to most of the participants, is whatever they make as a base, it's enough to sprinkle tomato over it and voila... it's pizza. The strange thing is, someone took a picture of a pizza bought in a restaurant, even the professionally made one looks very little like a pizza.
I'm not sure I saw one or two that I might want to try eating.

At the beginning of the contest, fillippone warned about the possible abuse of AI, MidJourney for example really gave very good images of food, that's correct. At least we can be sure here, AI is certainly not used, it just doesn't have this much creativity as shown by many in this contest.

This is something that also happened in recent contests (baking/cooking/plating something that is not what was asked), but in a much less obvious way. It seems that high participation brings these deviations.

I have to say that, to me, this way contests are much more fun; but I feel you Ale88: if I was Italian, this would be a sacrilege, and the same goes for the pumpkin carving contest or pie contest, for instance, if I was American. I'll have to prepare mentally if I ever plan to create a paella or a Spanish omelette contest myself Cheesy

it may well be better to allow that one to be entered and to attempt to receive votes.. rather than completely leaving such a submission out of the contest...
If it's a pizza contest and someone submits an entry that is clearly not a pizza, what's the point then? If next year we make a pasta contest would you ever submit a risotto or a salad?

Are you suggesting that pizza has actually been clearly defined?  Then yeah no problem.  Are you going to presume that anyone looked at the dictionary for the definition of pizza or to know what is the definition of pizza if it has not been pointed out?  That's seems to be the point that I was attempting to make, which is people might have differing definitions of what is a pizza if such definition has not clearly been made from the start...

For example if the definition of pizza is that it has to have tomato sauce.. or it has to have bread or it has to have cheese or it has to be cooked in some kind of an enclosed space (oven)?  Can you make a pizza that would qualify in the contest without tomato sauce, without bread, without cheese, cooked in a pan or on a non-enclosed grill?

Hypothetically speaking, within a contest, pizza could have a variety of crazy-ass definitions including but not limited to that all pizza submissions must have some kind of a green vegetable (such as lettuce), noodles, corn, pineapple and/or anchovies contained therein.    Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

By the way, from my perspective (to the extent that it matters), if "pizza" has not been adequately defined at the beginning of the contest, then you (I am not referring to anyone in particular) better not be trying to define "pizza" after the fact.. and in that sense it is likely way better to wait until next year to define (clarify) what you believe is pizza (for the purposes of the contest) in order to have adequate ways to eliminate members based on their seemingly shitty submissions that are not likely to get votes, but they may well still end up receiving merits for being submitted to the "pizza" contest -  even if they are low effort and pretty loose with anyone's (who is anyone's) perspective of what might a "pizza" be.    Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
I'm sorry but are we actually debating what is considered pizza in 2023? Just a quick copy-paste from Wikipedia:

Pizza is a dish of Italian origin consisting of a usually round, flat base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and often various other ingredients, which is then baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven. [source]

If the "pizza" is not baked of course it can't be considered a pizza. If someone uses cake ingredients it can't be considered a pizza. I'm not saying that all the pizzas must be exactly as stated above but at least some basic steps must be followed.

I am not debating what is a pizza.  I am merely pointing out that if pizza has not been defined then it would not be fair to impose a definition after the contest has already started....

Regarding your wikipedia reference, was wikipedia pointed out as the "official definition" of pizza for the purpose of this contest?  #askingforafriend... myself    Wink   Tongue

By the way, in the end, I don't care that much regarding the extent to which the contest is fair or not - except stating my opinion regarding if the goal were to be to have a fair contest, then it is probably better to have the definitions of: "what is a pizza" for example, in the beginning of the contest, not being made up on the fly after a contest had already started.

so I think, as I am typing this, I am heading towards believing that it is better to include everything and to give reasons for why they are left out mostly in the categories of photo shop or seemingly low effort trolling.. rather than "that ain't no pizza"... ... but if the conclusion is that the submission fails to fit the "definition of pizza" then that would be better to state it, rather than to "ignore" it.
I agree with you but the word "pizza" does not need to be defined as it does not need to be defined as "water" or "coca cola" we all know how these drinks are.  If I order a pizza, the waiter must bring me a circular pasta cooked in the oven (preferably wood-fired) with a layer of tomato on the surface up to half a centimeter from the edge covered with mozzarella.  This is the basis.  Finally, you can season it with some ingredients such as ham, mushrooms, peppers, salami, artichokes, etc... but any type of strange dough cannot be defined as pizza.  For the dough you need water, flour and yeast.  It's that simple and I don't expect a regulation to define what a pizza is if the contest plans to cook one.

Isn't it ironic that you said that a pizza does not need to be defined (kind of like: "I know one when I see one"), then you thereafter stated a definition for pizza, from your own point of view, that you suggest to completely unobjectionable.

By the way, some people might purposefully choose to not use flour in their crust base.  Accordingly, from your point of view, keto pizzas do not exist?  #againaskingforafriend

[edited out]
Except for them, I still believe I've listed some low-quality/effort Pizza that barely looks like a pizza. Some of them deleted their entry, if I am not wrong. I hope my explanation makes sense. I am no one to judge if it's a pizza or not.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Personally, I feel like I am not inclined to comment on any of the submissions that might have had been left out, even though I do believe that it is good to provide opportunties for any member to object in the event that they might believe that some kind of a creation/submission (that they consider to arguably have had been a fair or artistic or a "parody" pizza - as examplens mentioned) to have had been left out...including some claims that the pictures appear to be photoshopped or even seen in some other location on the interwebs that tends to establish that the member submitting the picture had not made the pizza(s) contained within the images that they had submitted or if someone figures out that that the submission appears to be a bot/AI generated pizza submission.

Anyway, I used it to “print” the central bitcoin logo. The other letters were instead manually carved. Space for improvement for next year maybe?

I can't believe we're still discussing about what a pizza is because for you is acceptable to make a rice salad and call it a pizza. Please don't insult my intelligence, there is no need to "clearly define" a pizza for this type of contest, just google pizza and compare the images: do they look like rice salad? Do they look like unbaked stuff? Do they look like a mix of ketchup and mayonnaise thrown in a plate? If someone is writing on this forum it means he has internet access, they ask you to make a pizza then just google what a pizza is, that's it.

I tried to carve the bitcoin logo with a knife, it always failed because the cheddar cheese was so soft and brittle, I wasn't good enough to see it.  Cry

In the end, I was only able to engrave capital letters, and there were still some that were connected because they were broken and the letters were uneven, but I tried it and it was the best in my opinion. LOL

You made it easy with 3D Bitcoin stamp it's pretty perfect guys.

But it's a pretty good creation, you should be able to keep your current badge. Cheesy
