How to be invested in Crypto while staying away from gambling?

I've been around the crypto scene since pre 2013 pump. Been around blackcoin pumps, pinkcoin pumps (all the color coin pumps), all the country-coin pumps (remember those?), every shitcoin known to man.

I even knew about ethereum (commented on page 4 or 5 on their announcement thread) and was a huge believer in the project. .....but instead of sending btc to their ICO site on a summer day in 2014, I sent it to nitrogen sports with the intention of making more btc to send to their ICO.

Throughout the years, I've done similar things with various alts: Monero, dark-coin (DASH), Cardano, you name it. I had them with hopes of holding onto them to watch their value grow...but couldn't...and gambled it away with 3AM challenger tennis, random soccer matches, or baseball over/unders (though, when I go on a binge, I actually start off pretty damn well, but get tilted the moment I lose a few times).


I'm a big believer in the crypto space but it's difficult for me to hold coins without gambling. The thing is, I have no issue controlling myself when I don't hold crypto. I could go to a casino or wherever and not have any urge to bet with fiat. Idk what it is about cryptocurrency. I just get so into certain coins that I want to make more so that I can get a bigger stack to hodl...but then by trying to get more the quick way, I lose it all.


Anyone feel similar?

How do you combat the urge to gamble with your cryptocurrency?

lower the time he spends gambling, that will require a self-control, he needs to work on that, steady and slow
and to think about it every day, and practice it!
   I think he doesn't have to stay away from gambling for life! If he learns how to control himself, he can limit
his bankroll and gamble for fun with money he can spare, if he can't do that then it's better to quit gambling for
good!

How do you combat the urge to gamble with your cryptocurrency?

Very original condition...  But cryptocurrencies offer a magic feature compared to fiat : it's their private key.
Maybe when you want to hold some cryptos, you can just put them in a wallet and hide the key somewhere not easily accessible for you. Or maybe you can use a multisig wallet for them, shared with some trusted people.

For honest, no. I invested in crypto in early 2015, and despite the fact that first bitcoins (before investing some more amount) were received from binary options (it's close to gamble, something like head or tails game) i don't feel any necessity to gamble. So this is something wrong with you, i think you played even before starting to be familiar with crypto.

There are many gamblers that wanted this to use as strategy but we also know the urge of gambling in which addicting and tempting that if we lose part of our mind tells us that we can win all back just by hitting jackpot so the plan change when we sits on the table.

Think on how will you use your holdings in the future. Think on where will you use your holdings after a certain amount of time. Think of a long term and not short term and change your thinking with regards to investing. Invest only and not gamble at all. This isn't easy for some people, when you're in that moment where you plan to save your crypto you'll sometimes start to feel that urge to gamble. Stopping right away might be too much for OP, winterlemon's suggestion is a good start for stopping an addiction since not everyone could adapt that fast others take several steps to completely stop it. Deleting your accounts isn't necessary imo because this could encourage you to gamble in other casinos.

See cryptocurrencies are not just about Gambling , it does make a very good token for the sites therefore there are many companies related to gambling interested in exploring the cryptocurrencies. The games are very enjoyable and easy to play and you cannot just play only once honestly. I experience same thing but I tried to fight the urge to not gamble the crypto I have which is btc at that time then I made myself think that the crypto I have is big amount even though in real understanding it's not big amount and I manage to control myself not to gamble the crypto I have. So basically, it's self-control you have to do.

There are many people who are still addicted to it even though they lose huge amount of money many times maybe because their emotions are now attached to it and that is why they cannot escaped the addiction.

That is why you should always check your control in gambling, because if you already reach the point of losing your "self control", you are now in a different level. Agree with you that it is now way wider than "self control". They are now addicted to the whole process of gambling, not just by winning anymore, loses will not make them stop too. Professionals are needed with the support of the family and friends.  It will not work too if the addict himself didn't accept the fact that he isn't in control anymore, he should be the one asking for help, and he should be willing to cooperate.

It's up to you nan, you are the one who can answer some of your questions. Everyone can stop gambling if they can really do it. Investing is pretty much better than gambling because you are saving you money and it profitable in the long term run.
If you can control yourself from staying at gambling then that's good because the money that you are going to spend from gambling would be great if it would be placed for investments.

You can do it, bro, just think about some other things to do. Like spending your time with your family or playing some games, just focus on some other things so you would not the about to gamble anymore.

How would you handle the issue assuming you have thesame gambling problem (specifically self-control/addiction problem) in physical life?  I'd probably advice you to treat gambling addiction (if that is the issue), maybe by quitting bit by bit if you can't quit immediately. If you aren't profitable after spending alot of time betting then you'll need to look for something else to spend your time and money on.

Sometimes I feel that our whole life is gambling. As for me I trust only Bitcoin, I read about altcoins some years ago, but decided not to invest in it.
