The first ever post that would likely come into the head of a newbie is an introduction post, the newbie in this manner shows his presence or just playing the new member card - this won't work here you get what you work for-

Don't make off post like
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5250477.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248889.0
You want to earn? Find a paying job outside.

Introductory message is not mandatory, nor is it something that fetches you grace here.
Quote
Introductory threads: If you feel the need to post an introduction thread please take the effort to write something substantial or don't bother at all.
Introductory message is not against the rule but know this getting it wrong can give you away as a spammer in the making and worse get you on ignore list so early.
Don't make short messages like "am here to know, learn crypt, bitcoin" -we know you did not come here to trade doughnuts- we should know that is why you here,.  "I want to make money", "am new or a newbie".
Another thing is read first, even read fellow newbie post this can have the answer to what you wanted to ask.

First impressions matters so before making that first post read, think and understand.

It is good for newbies to make HQ threads from their first post, but it's somewhat impossible. 'A baker does not make perfect cakes or bread from the beginning'.
Newbies who start making good threads from their first post are often suspected to be alts of users who have already been on the forum for a long time, and that suspicion is correct most times.

What I'm saying is that first post does not really matter that much imo, you can start with a bad first post and end up a legendary member, what's most important is to understand the forum better as you stay longer, post quality would then of course get better with time.

To make a good introductory post or making a first post doesn't need you to have a super knowledge of cryptocurrency,
For example i decide to join forex or something new and joins a forum about it, my first post don't have to be so off like.  "How can earn" alone. A good post is not a high technical post.

You can start posting efforts from your first post -thats should not mean you are an alt-

Yes, there are lots of newbies who are making substantial post more than that of high ranking members and I couldn't agree more with you more with that claim. However, it is also good to consider that maybe they have a technical background in real life which leads them here to ask for a little help. Apathy will took place if a member who is once a "High Ranking Member" will go down to a "Newbie" unless they want revenge or to commit an exit scam  Cheesy.

As for OP, I think there will be no impact at all in the forum if they'll just squeal on how to make some bucks in this forum. If they don't educate themselves then expect that there will be no change.

Probably (I’m not going to stat-proof my statement), over 80% of the first post are bounty related in recent times, so the goes that for a first impression. That does not have to be a constant, and people snap out or evolve (hell, 13 out of my first 20 posts were (experimental) bounty related).

The posts that are set as positive examples in the OP do belong to accounts that were per se over two years old on the forum, belonging to consecrated accounts, and are therefore not really counterexamples for a first impression thread (we wouldn’t expect that to be written by an average Newbie, and not even by an average 2 year old account).

Not only that, it's funny how some of the "new" member introductions puts a lot of emphasis on being a "good constructive poster", and some even also putting emphasis on earning merits. I don't know about you guys, but I'm personally an online forum junkie and based on my 5+ years activity on various forums, no true new member makes such kind of introductions. LOL

Slightly off topic ~ We sure have been seeing a lot of introductory threads of recent, and while some of them may be of alt accounts, I also think Bitcoin has been gaining more traction in the past few weeks, before and after the halving and this means more people are getting interested in it.
A quick glance through the stats page - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats shows a rise in the number of new members throughout the year 2017, which was the year we saw the all time high, I'm being bullish, but maybe we could be warming up for a spike in the coming months.

As regards the shabby first posts, it cannot really be avoided, users are introduce time the forum ways and have different ideas if what goes on here. This is reflected in the content of their posts; merit, bounty et al. Having a welcome message would be effective in pointing forum members in the right direction.

Those post cited was not to compare them with newbie introductory post,- I would be wowed if a newbie a newbie makes such- but the post was for newbies to read up and get information from it

First impressions matters so before making that first post read, think and understand.

I fully expect every new arrival to think they're going to immediately make a packet with their google translate dribbling. If they keep that attitude then fine, they ain't getting anywhere. If they eventually realise they're heading towards a total dead end they might start to knuckle down and become useful and productive.

I'll bet many a long established poster here would shudder at reviewing their comportment when they first arrived here. I've seen plenty of esteemed people admit that they were absolute shitposters when they arrived and it took them quite some time to turn that around and make the effort to be worthwhile.

We'll see that play out in public and perhaps others will learn from it. It would be good to have a reformed shitposter thread. I think I've seen a few.

Totally agree with you OP, this forum is not a social network where people make friends and talk about themselves, it's a place to discuss Bitcoin and everything around them. If I were a mod, I'd send all these posts straight to the offtopic board where they belong.

The typical newbie questions like "how do i earn" or "how to install wallet" are also annoying, mods should direct people to FAQ and lock such threads to avoid spam.

Even, if there will be an introductory post, it must also be useful, with that, it will draw merit source and other established members attention to the member. But, what should follow are useful posts that stand out. I noticed newbies like to contribute what we are familiar with on this forum while some of their posts are not useful. Introductory post is not necessary, what are most necessary are the useful contributions which will help in the members ranking up.

Wrong. Don't try to game the merit system, it won't work. It's as likely to have the opposite effect - people will remember you as shitposter and merit farmer, because members who give merits can easily see through baiting attempts. The only way to make your name recognizable is consistently making decent posts for long periods of time. Choosing a good username and avatar helps a little bit too.

Absolutely spot on, an early eager chase for merit can back fire, you should concern yourself with learning and constant contributing something of quality.

Am not sure about the name and avatar you can be either -a good poster or a bad poster- avatar or name changes little. But everyone can transform to a good poster if the make up there mind.

True, avatar and name won't help a shitposter, but they are important for good posters to become more recognizable and have higher engagement, including earning more merit. People usually don't read every single message in a thread, they scroll until their eye catches something interesting, like a word in a post. Avatars are great visual anchors, so they easily catch attention, so if a user interacted with you in the past, they will remember you by your avatar and will be more likely to stop and read your message.

I seldom give merit to an introductory post, introductory is just a way to have a feel of how is it posting on the forum, and a little information about yourself, but what makes you a credible poster is how you post and how you give your opinion on different subjects, the introductory post will not give me an idea if you are a spammer or a good poster, your succeeding post will.

I never gave merit to an introductory post.
Ussually, such post have low quality or or are copies of old and already known information from the forum.
To some extent I can understand people who write such posts, they want to build their reputation on the forum as quickly as possible and they don't have enough knowledge and experience to write about what they know specifically.
There are exceptions, however..
In my, local part of the forum, a newbie appeared who is actually the owner of a crypto firm.
He shared with us his company's successful projects, such as a crypto payment application or an agreement with the post offices so that users there can sell bitcoin  Grin Grin
Unfortunately, such examples are very rare and new members have little or no experience and knowledge of crypto or bitcoin but on the other hand they try to write something even though they don't know what  Grin Grin
