So this marks my 1000th post on the forum which is a milestone for me Cheesy I have always considered it to be a step too high, but with course of time and engagements, I have made 1000 posts. It's not really big as ofcourse, people with decade-thousand posts, but yeah, that first milestone is precious Tongue

I've learnt a couple of things on my stay here. Which might help the very new newbie to begin his journey here!

Not many months ago I was a newbie, lurking here thinking how others are so smart, I might not even be able to post anything without getting embarassed/trolled. But then slowly I started to engage in comments and posts I had interests in. And slowly it became comfortable.

Now there's no fear to pass on a opinion in even the most controversial topics here Cheesy and I like that freedom!

Also I have learnt that it's important that you respect your seniors here (senior as in the more established members) because they have years of experience here. Forum is no one's monopoly, but they have earnt surely trust and credibility for that respect!

Stay away from the tempting dramas happening all the time in the forum. Don't comment and take anyone's side. But don't fear to call a scammer a scammer. Politely though Cheesy

Yeah that's all I guess.  Grin

Cheers!

You are lucky that you knew that it is your 1000th post. I even didn't notice when I was there. After posting, I have seen that it was my 1000th post- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1935179.msg54174928#msg54174928
Nevertheless, you experience here seems to be good. I agree that there's no fear to call scammer a scammer but when someone calls scammer to an innocent guy, that's something hurts most. Be as accurate as possible before calling someone scammer. Good luck.

Respect is not expected on an online forum, and definitely not on bitcointalk. Respect is more suited in homes or schools or in more real life situations. I understand your point, but respect isn't the word to use, you can admire users who have achieved higher ranks than you and also seek help from them, but I'll not say respect, that's the reason some users use the word "sir" which I personally consider absurd.

You can 'ignore' the reputation section if you want to stay away from drama on the forum, but it's also fine if you wish to get involved with your own accurate or correct take/comment on them.

True, I guess admiration would be better word. Ig I like to stay non alligned. Specially when the drama is very complicated. But I have seen some newbies jumping into big dramas for pleasing a side, then facing consequences in the long run haha Cheesy

There's loads of seniors who are loathsome twats. And many more who are nothing but farmed accounts that you could create by shitposting once a day for a few months. There was no requirement to have quality posts to rank up before merit was introduced.

No one deserves respect just because they've been around for a long time. And even good members occasionally come out with total drivel.

This is good advice. Lots of people seem to disappear down the pointless feuding route and, even worse, get into the trust and reputation side. It's a monumental waste of life that achieves nothing other than wasting time better spent elsewhere.

I could maybe understand it if these people were doing actual business with each other, but not a single one is as far as I can tell.

Respect can be used everywhere even in online social platforms. Admiring someone is just believing because of his insights, intelligence and behaviour. But if you respect someone, though it argues your opinion. You will acknowledge him. If you respect someone, you are open to his suggestion. If you admire someone, you are open because his suggestion suits in you.

How does saying sir is absurd? It is a formal way of communicating. Our industry has a lot of professional people at the same time, anonymous. Therefore, it is good if you talk with a please just like putting sir in front of his pseudonym. Besides, that three letters can set the mood of your discussion.

Respect our senior, that's why I respect your opinion sir. And I believe that in order for us to have consensus in this forum, we should respect everybody's opinion.

For OP, i agree with you. We have just to focus in learning rather than wasting our time in drama's. But then, we need also to look in that thread in order for us to be aware of what is happening in this forum.

It's true that it is better to avoid forum drama in Reputation Board and focus on improving your knowledge of Bitcoin and other important things. But I am afraid forum dramas are not only restricted to Reputation Board anymore, nowadays dramas can popup anywhere especially in Meta

Glad to see that you have learnt from this forum. But seems most of lesson you have got from here about forum culture, it's just noticed from OP though I don't have enough time to visit your post history. So I am not sure regarding since you hadn't mentioned about it anything on the OP. your lesson about bitcoin and cryptocurrencyRegarding troll even I was trolled many times, of course I weren't much experienced that time. But for sure there was many decent members as well who had been motivated me for contributions. So I didn't stop myself from express my own opinion and that's how I become an established member here. Hope you will be same place somedays.

I am sure anyone can reach posts 1000, 2000, 3000 and even reach thousands of thousands as long as they can always be active post it even just for the report of bounty. But for me, the number of posts is not at all important if all the posts are categorized as spam or low quality posts.

Over the past few periods "2015-2019" , I was one of many users who did not care about the quality of posts so many of my posts could be categorized as spam and also of low quality. Almost every day I check the message inbox to find out which posts have been deleted by the moderator and that is actually not my desire. My total posts that have been deleted by the moderator based on the data on bpip currently total 141 or every 8 posts that I make then I will get 1 post deleted "this is the average not the actual number".

But after I realized the potential that exists within me, then right on December 9, 2019 I decided to continue to improve the quality of my posts and of course I have been able to reduce the number of deleted posts drastically and get 107 merit since then. This is proof that no matter how many posts we can achieve if you dont have quality then that achievement is completely useless and will only add to the burden of others to clean it and will also make the account reputation worse. So, basically people will only judge the quality of posts. The number is not a determinant that someone has posted quality things before checking their posting history.

Congrats to the new journey buddy, it seems like you are enjoying this forum because you had reached the 100 posts, I think that you already get so many information and knowledge about cryptocurrency because of your experience. This is what I really like in this forum, there are many things that I have learned because of what I have read here. Different boards and different information that we can have.

Respect is what we really need to apply in his forum, to give peace in everything we should give respect to each other, beginners and seniors are the same, they are all meant to be respected and being a beginner in this forum doesn't mean that you are too late, there is no late in acquiring knowsedge.

Yeah, I also feel intimidated to some members who are really smart especially on the technical discussions and those who are in the Meta section as well. Fortunately I was able to accept the fact that each one of us got their own strengths and weaknesses. I think it's just that there are things where I am good but you are bad at and vice versa Cheesy. But these imperfections are beneficial to us somehow also because it encourage us to keep improving.

There's a lot, maybe even a majority, of members who only have high ranks thanks to airdropped merits, so generally you shouldn't trust something just because it's written by a "senior". There are indeed some very knowledgeable and helpful members that every newbie can learn from, and you'll quickly figure out who to listen to if you just browse this forum, as those members are very active, especially if it comes to technical discussion of Bitcoin.

Just recently within this week, I have also realized that I reached my 1000th post here in the forum. It's still quite amazing for me to reach 1000 posts and made even a small contribution here. And I think most of us also have this moment when we are shy and quite afraid of posting especially when we are still newbie, but it only takes time before we realize that we already have the confidence and be comfortable here.

Giving respect to people even if you don't know them personally depends on our own. There's nothing wrong showing respect to strangers and for me, you don't just show respect because they are so-called seniors because everyone deserves to be respected, and just being polite and nice to people is also a way of showing respect. I also believe that you need respect here in the forum if you want a smooth and less drama journey in Bitcointalk.

I am also not so far from my 1000th post now. And it is also a pride and honoured to be associated with this forum as for me and like me many other this means a lot or many things in the life when it comes to crypto and other things.

Some of the important things which I have learned but nor restricted to it only -

1) Started to understand crypto when a friend told me about it and for further understanding I searched on the net and was lucky to found out this forum which is the universe I feel at times.
2) During this time learned my own mistakes, learned what not to do or how it can be done better from the experiences and knowledge sharing on this forum.
3) Made some good friends on this forum from across the globe.
4) Made me aware about the future holds bright of crypto and thus I passed on this sharing to my other friends and colleagues and also made them aware about this forum.

A good question is just as worthy as a good answer to something. It's refreshing when a newcomer's thoughts have an angle I haven't thought of before and it does happen every now and then.

Pretending to know something you don't, or having an empty opinion on it, is all over this forum. There aren't enough good questions.

Congrats with a milestone, OP! 1000 posts is big number, but I hope that's just a start of your long journey here.
When I started, I couldn't even thought that I will reach 1000 posts. When I saw that some members have made over 10 000 posts, I thought that these folks probably don't have life outside forum.  But now I have almost 6900 posts and in Top 200 by number of posts. It shows how seriously I'm addicted to Bitcointalk.
Thanks for sharing, I also just joined and so far I'm mostly just a silent reader.

It's good that you try to read before posting to gain knowledge. But don't be afraid to ask if you don't know something. Everyone here started as Newbie with limited knowledge
