This site has the documented list of the exchanges that fell victim to the hackers in the history of BTC. These documents are helpful when you want to deposit some BTC to some of the exchanges out there or just to keep it as prevention to the others. Nowadays we rarely see some hacking that leads to some of the crypto exchanges to permanently close their site and stop their service. back in the days, they are pretty common and one of the exchanges that suffers a lot is no other than the Mt.Gox. With the innovative strategies implemented by Binance and the other known exchanges, Hackers will be having some hard time accessing their servers and do their evil acts.

Quote
As of today, there are a total of 45 hacking events, with lost funds amounting to a total of approximately $1.850B at the times of these hacks, with the Mt.Gox hack of 2014 being the biggest casualty yet with 35.75%($661,348,000) of the total stolen funds. The total amount does not include stolen user data and undisclosed amounts of stolen funds.

If you’re a trader and you really need to leave funds on exchanges, take your time into learning how to secure your exchange accounts.

If you don’t actively trade, make sure to store your funds using a reputable hardware wallet.

I agree this is a nice and simple infographic to understand, but it seems they didn't make a complete list about the hacked exchanges. Because according to this thread Hacked Exchanges since 2011-2020 from @VB1001, the total of hacked exchanges since 2011 is 85 and that sites only show 45.

But, it doesn't mean we should use exchanges who never got hacked before and avoid all exchanges has been hacked. Because most of exchanges never got hacked is only a brand new exchanges with low volume trading. This is more riskier than trust a popular and good exchanges was got hacked once only. Also it's why we should not leave our funds to an exchange, always remember not your key, not your coin.

I do not think this information is quite relevant as most of these exchanges are already closed or there are very few traders trading there.

It will be nice to keep a record for historic evidence and to remind us how vunerable exchanges are and why we need to store our crypto assets in our personal wallets and not on exchanges.

I think we have found much more information about exchange hacks in this forum in our previous topics.

List of cryptocurrency exchange hacks

It will be more worthy if anyone make a topic where we can found details which exchanges haven't been hacked but stole money from users.

Hope this will be something unique and constructive if we can make a proper list.

Fortunately we have similar thread like you ask, you can read it here Compilation of all "Scam Accusations" threads related to exchanges from @Raja_MBZ. This thread not only discuss about stole money from users... but also discuss other problems about that exchanges (e.g. account blocked/blacklist, fake volume, disabling withdrawal etc.)

This information is always important. It helps point out the flaws related to cryptocurrency exchanges and how we need to secure our funds in the best way possible.

I still remember the Binance hack and the Bittrex phishing hack sometime back. Both caught me off guard since these were my top exchanges at that time where I traded regularly.

Those hacks helped me learn more about security protocols, hardware wallets etc which helped me secure my funds in a much better manner.

Such lists of hacked cryptocurrency exchange platforms have been posted many times before.
What makes this list special or important? It's a decent infographic, but not  all hacked cryptocurrency exchange platforms are mentioned in that list.It seems to me that this is just some promotion of the cryptosec.info website.
I really hope that centralized crypto trading platforms will become a thing from the past, and decentralized platforms will start taking over. This is the only way to prevent and stop those giant multi-million dollar thefts.

Most of the Exchange that once become the victim of hackers are now have already strong security and never experienced same situation again so why will people Need warning about their past failure?and  besides almost every exchange (even those Bigger one) are one become victim and others are target so i believe that time passed by and now hackers are having hard time to victimized again.

Such lists of hacked cryptocurrency exchange platforms have been posted many times before.

I always liked the bitcoin timeline projects (the original that ended with a Charlie Shrem post, and then the one that picked up from it, then the various others that sprang up) but in the end, anything that seems build apart from the wiki eventually dies.

Not sure this is particularly important to be part of posterity, especially when many of the hacks are suspect (never actually objectively proven to be legitimate hacks and not simply convenient "exit scam" excuses).

This is not so important , but it could've been more memorable to you if you are one of the people whose funds were stolen along with exchange's funds. Not just a piece of btc history, it was of the whole cryptocurrency. No wonder why we keep getting a lot of question regarding cryptocurrencies security from the outside, though coins are perfectly secured but these services aren't.

So if you guys were asked, would you still use an exchange who has a security breaching history? Coz me Imma say yes, that's where they will not let their guard down , they won't let it to happen twice  Wink

I agree, this also reminds us that the system is flawed and needs an extra effort to become stronger, stronger the hackers. Cryptocurrencies are the future so might as well we do it secured now so we'll be just sitting around in our home thinking nothing about its security. And let's call for exchanges for a safer services, even they will shoulder the losses of their customers due to breaching incidents.

I still remember the Binance hack and the Bittrex phishing hack sometime back. Both caught me off guard since these were my top exchanges at that time where I traded regularly.
As far as I remember the last time binance were involve with such cases like this was last year, right? This exchange is giant, so I'm sure that won't happen again, right Zhao?

Those hacks helped me learn more about security protocols, hardware wallets etc which helped me secure my funds in a much better manner.
The cryptocurrency is very safe, you need a supercomputer to hack its algorithm, what's not safe is the services like ewallets and exchanges.

It's missing quite a few entries. It also says it's a list of exchange hacks, but includes wallets such as inputs.io while failing to include other online wallets such as MyBitcoin or Instawallet.

Yes,  I do believed that this is relevant, but we can't say that cyber criminals won't stop their evil acts. They are always 2 steps of the game here and regardless of security measure CEX will do, exploits do happen. Again almost remember, not your keys not your coins philosophy.

Binance, the top exchange for most of us here, has been breached as well, the question is, are traders gonna use it still if is has a history of being hack in the past?

Yes,  I do believed that this is relevant, but we can't say that cyber criminals won't stop their evil acts. They are always 2 steps of the game here and regardless of security measure CEX will do, exploits do happen. Again almost remember, not your keys not your coins philosophy.

Binance, the top exchange for most of us here, has been breached as well, the question is, are traders gonna use it still if is has a history of being hack in the past?

In Binance's defense, it wasn't Binance specifically that got hacked, but some of their users. Hence why the damage wasn't that drastic even though it's still a good number of coins.

But yea, exchanges will get hacked. Mostly  just a matter of when.
