UPDATED 2022-12-30Earned and sent merit are now in the same page. just click the arrow to see merit senders. I am studying python and I managed to do something with @LoyceV's merit data and this nice website called Flourish Studio. I cannot post videos here, so here is the image. Click in the image to see the animation: Alternatively, you can click here for the animation. https://www.bitcoindata.science/meritrace.htmlI will make Merit Senders race soon Done and merged with this one. Edit: I can make animations per request. For a different group of users for example. as suggested by 1miau Other animations threads: Bitcointalk Race Stats Animation - all in one thread

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

I can do that. It is not too much work. 99% of the work was to organize the data. Now that it is organized I can make as many animations as requested pretty easily.

I thought there will be a way to let the speed a little bit slower but I think it doesn't matter. Do you still have to code the data for example on Anaconda or is it just drag and drop or something like that?

Thanks for your suggestion, I just slowed it down. Do you still have to code the data for example on Anaconda or is it just drag and drop or something like that?
To make custom animations I just need to select the requested data from the full merit history dataframe I made. I did in Jupyter Notebook. I just made a merit senders animation, which I will post now

That will be awesome don't forget the speed as well so we can see more clearer picture of the race. LOL!

Thanks for the animation! Soon, someone will use this as their basis in showing graphs about important data here in the forum. Here are my suggestions: - Maybe you should also try animating the merit receivers from different ranks as well (i.e. Merited Member - Legendary Members)
- Merit senders depending by the ranks as well
Are both be possible? AFAIK LoyceV has data on it but the challenge is how could you get everything in chronological order since the merit started. Also, maybe you should just simply make a single thread about those animations or just combine it here and edit the title as "Bitcointalk Data Animation" that would contain all of your works because the ideas are the same. I was trying to convert the video onto GIF yet can we upload gifs in here? I have cropped the video and the only problem is how can it be played here.

You put up a good fight satoshi, but you've been bested. Take that, guy who hasn't logged in to the forum since 2010.
Funny I didn't even show up until 8/19.
It was also funny to watch DdmrDdmr pull ahead of LoyceV for a few brief moments, and then Loyce was like, nope, and sped ahead like there was no tomorrow.
I remember in 2018 and maybe early 2019 seeing people with a lot more merits than me who never even appeared in this list, thinking, "It will be a big day when I catch up to them."
Really interesting to see a few people close to the top in 2018 that I've never even heard of.

Did you know mediaBuzz did something similar 3 months ago? Why didn't you start from day 1 of the Merit system? Other than that: nice animation It's good to see "my" data being used. It's kinda bad though that certain Merit data can't be verified on the forum anymore: 120 days after a Merited post was deleted, you have to rely on unverifiable user data. Every time I get closer to theymos, he does something like an art contest, and he's 6 months further ahead again Here are my suggestions: - Maybe you should also try animating the merit receivers from different ranks as well (i.e. Merited Member - Legendary Members)
- Merit senders depending by the ranks as well
Are both be possible? AFAIK LoyceV has data on it I don't have up-to-date data on Ranks, but that's easy to get. It takes less than a day to scrape for all users who had any Merit transactions. But the next problem is their rank now might be different than their rank when they received Merit. Users grow through the ranks as they earn Merit. Interesting, Killyou72 got his name changed long ago but appeard in the list here I think bitmover used my list of usernames, and I didn't update this user yet. I'll update it at my next update (Friday).

It’s certainly a faster race to watch than the ones I created on the Merit Dashboard ( Merit Race – updated weekly with selectable Usernames; Top 100 snail paced Merit Race as of March 2020). <…> It was also funny to watch DdmrDdmr pull ahead of LoyceV for a few brief moments, and then Loyce was like, nope, and sped ahead like there was no tomorrow.<…>

Interesting, Killyou72 got his name changed long ago but appeard in the list here I think bitmover used my list of usernames, and I didn't update this user yet. I'll update it at my next update (Friday). That's exactly the reason. I made a version that went from day to day, since day 1. However, there were 2 reasons which made me decide to make this animation based on the last day of the month merit status: 1 - the dataframe became too heavy, and it was really hard to upload the data into the animation website. 2 - on day 1 we already had more than a thousand merits distributed, so there was no visible difference. Even in the beginning of the animation, as day 1 of merit system was a very unusual day. The first data in the animation is on 31/01/18, which is basically the same as the first day (i think first day was 28/01) Here are my suggestions: - Maybe you should also try animating the merit receivers from different ranks as well (i.e. Merited Member - Legendary Members)
But the next problem is their rank now might be different than their rank when they received Merit. Users grow through the ranks as they earn Merit. I agree, this is a problem as well. As everyone would be legendary or Hero, even though they were newbie in the beginning. Maybe I could do some algorithm to make that change over time... but too much trouble I guess. I believe it would be nice to make a board race of circulating merits. I don't have that data now, as I don't know exactly how to convert forum posts to boards. Really interesting to see a few people close to the top in 2018 that I've never even heard of.
Local boards plays a big role here. Even now, I can see many users who post basically in their local boards.[/list]

(i think first day was 28/01) The first Merit was sent on Epoch time 1516831941, which translates to GMT: Wednesday 24 January 2018 22:12:21. Close enough I believe it would be nice to make a board race of circulating merits. I don't have that data now, as I don't know exactly how to convert forum posts to boards. You can't convert this without downloading all posts. I think DdmrDdmr has that data available on his Merit Dashboard.

@OP here are some of my suggestions/requests about the data hoping to find a different view in the merits
- Merit Race in Local Boards - Like what was previously said some members in BCT mostly post in their local boards it will be interesting to see who is winning. - Top Merits received by post - although the results will be similar to what you have now this will give a different view on how much merits the members are receiving on each post - Top Reciprocal Merit Senders

To do that I will need to do this first, as I don't knowc from which board the merit came from with my current data. I believe it would be nice to make a board race of circulating merits. Haha. Thank you for the animation video. Besides the race of merit senders that you planned to do, how about the DT strength race video? LoyceV provides a raw data, and I made my analysis with weekly DT strength for 151 DT1 members. What I have? - 151 DT1 members: userid, username.
- DT strength stats
- Time variable: Don't have actually. What I have is ordinal week numbers
For such data, can you make an animated video? If you need such data, let me know. Data will be something like that and if you need excel version, tell me. +-----------------------------------------+ | userid username dtstrength weekid | |-----------------------------------------| 1. | 35 theymos 36 6 | 2. | 35 theymos 45 7 | 3. | 35 theymos 46 8 | 4. | 35 theymos 46 9 | 5. | 35 theymos 46 10 | 6. | 35 theymos 46 11 | 7. | 35 theymos 49 12 | 8. | 35 theymos 49 13 | 9. | 35 theymos 49 14 | 10. | 35 theymos 49 15 | 11. | 35 theymos 49 16 | 12. | 35 theymos 49 17 | 13. | 35 theymos 47 18 | 14. | 35 theymos 47 19 | 15. | 35 theymos 49 20 | 16. | 35 theymos 50 21 | 17. | 35 theymos 58 22 | 18. | 35 theymos 59 23 | 19. | 35 theymos 59 24 | 20. | 35 theymos 59 25 | 21. | 35 theymos 60 26 | 22. | 35 theymos 61 27 | 23. | 35 theymos 61 28 | 24. | 35 theymos 61 29 | 25. | 35 theymos 61 30 | 26. | 35 theymos 61 31 | 27. | 35 theymos 61 32 | 28. | 35 theymos 61 33 | 29. | 35 theymos 61 34 | 30. | 35 theymos 61 35 | 31. | 35 theymos 62 36 | 32. | 35 theymos 62 37 | 33. | 35 theymos 62 38 | 34. | 35 theymos 62 39 | 35. | 35 theymos 62 40 | 36. | 35 theymos 62 41 | 37. | 35 theymos 62 42 | 38. | 35 theymos 59 43 | 39. | 35 theymos 59 44 | 40. | 35 theymos 59 45 | 41. | 35 theymos 59 46 | 42. | 35 theymos 57 47 | 43. | 35 theymos 56 48 | 44. | 35 theymos 56 49 | 45. | 35 theymos 56 50 | 46. | 35 theymos 61 51 | 47. | 35 theymos 62 52 | 48. | 35 theymos 60 53 | 49. | 35 theymos 60 54 | 50. | 35 theymos 61 55 | 51. | 35 theymos 61 56 | 52. | 35 theymos 61 57 | 53. | 35 theymos 61 58 | 54. | 35 theymos 57 59 | 55. | 35 theymos 56 60 | 56. | 35 theymos 56 61 | 57. | 35 theymos 56 62 | 58. | 35 theymos 56 63 | 59. | 35 theymos 60 64 | 60. | 35 theymos 58 65 | 61. | 35 theymos 58 66 | 62. | 35 theymos 58 67 | 63. | 35 theymos 58 68 | 64. | 35 theymos . 69 | 65. | 35 theymos . 70 | 66. | 35 theymos . 71 | 67. | 35 theymos . 72 | 68. | 35 theymos . 73 | +-----------------------------------------+

I don't know details on date time from weekid. You should ask LoyceV for such details because it depends on how he coded weekid. Now, what do you need? Data in above format or in excel sheet?
