What Does Global Community Think Of Sharing Economy? We would like to share the results of an incredible study on the sharing economy done by PriceWaterHouseCoopers (PWC) in the US. It focused on those who had already heard the term before and even used services from the field.
The PwC research showed:
83% of those surveyed believe that sharing makes life more convenient and resource-efficient;
76% say this approach to consumption is environment-friendly;
43% admit that sometimes ownership seems like a burden.
The main consumers for the sharing economy services are young people under 40, which is easily explained by their lifestyle choices, adaptivity to changes and a high level of computer literacy. It gets more intriguing if we look at income groups: 24% of sharing economy users earn from $25,000 to $49,999, and 25% earn upwards of $100,000 per year. The rest of income groups account for roughly 11% of users each.
This shows how most spending occurs on the opposite ends of the income spectrum. It is explainable, considering how the lower income group seeks the cheapest avenues of shared consumption. The higher income group has no problem with balancing their expenditures, but they are more concerned with reducing their carbon footprint, and this approach provides them with that opportunity.
