Glad to see that most of developing countries realized the value of bitcoin and allow to use Bitcoin ATM. On the other hand, feeling sad that my country still arresting crypto users. Bitcoin ATM could keep a major role in Bitcoin adoption. Its because we can buy sell bitcoin more easily. Otherwise, we must look for peer to peer or some exchange to buy sell bitcoin. To be honest I hadn't imagined that so many countries from Africa allowing Bitcoin ATM machine, just now noticed from OP. Good list by the way.

Wow! So, South Africa leads the pack? I was thinking either Kenya or Nigeria. Well, good a thing these things are even beginning to take shape in the Africa continent. Knowing full well how conservative our people are; once this crypto frenzy catches up with Africa, believe me the whole world will feel the impact. Africa likes to go in all out for what they want in respect to business after overcoming any initial skepticism. Good one, OP.

Good compilation but I think the format like this seems to be good, simple, and not crowded to read. Sorry but that's what I have seen.

Coinatmradar.com is a great tool to find bitcoin ATM anywhere across the world. It's easy to browse and find those details of the ATM not only for Africa.

I assume that you've come from the country of Africa, isn't it? I guess it seems to be good if you also post this into your local. Overall, that's a good work OP. Thank you.

Wow! So, South Africa leads the pack? I was thinking either Kenya or Nigeria.
I too was surprised, but in term of trading volume, Nigeria has the largest. But, more bitcoin ATMs will be installed in Nigeria. About Kenya, it is clear that South Africa has a higher trading volume. South Africa has the highest number of bitcoin ATMs and the first was installed as far back in 2014.

This is a great compilation. This proves the strength of Bitcoin in the Africa continent is strong enough, as day by day transactions increases so is the need for more ATM.
And in the case of Nigeria having just one ATM despite having the highest trading volume is a call for more ATM in the region.

Nice to find many ATM's in the African continent and in different countries. In Africa most of the northern countries banned bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, at the opposite the southern countries made it legal. And I am not surprised to see South Africa leading with ATM.

Great list by OP; the adoption of Bitcoin and blockchain has a lot of interest in the African community and it is been seen on several centralised exchanges and even on the forum how Africans are embracing the technology.

I don't think the numerous ATMs installed in SA are as a result of trading volume and mass adoption, it could be how those who own them were welcomed with open hands by the south African government. Reverse could be the case with the Nigerian government as we witnessed how they tried to ban Bitcoin back in 2018 using the CBN to regulate unnecessary rules and laws. As times goes on and much more adoption is been done many others will be installed here.

clearly this is a news about the progress that has been made by countries in the african continent, it is not easy to accept the bitcoin atm may operate easily. in my country, recognition of bitcoin as a legitimate tool to be used as payment, cannot be issued yet.
whereas there are quite a lot of crypto followers but to give recognition as a legitimate medium of exchange is not yet brave, let alone to have to provide an atm machine. but the wonder for trade and exchange matters is there is no prohibition at all.

You are so right about this, but like you said bitcoin is now getting more accepted in Nigeria, also Blockstale BYM that operate the only bitcoin ATM in Nigeria said to installed up to 30 bitcoin ATMs in Nigeria over time.

I will not dispute this because you are right, but in short short memory, can you remember how the world first go against bitcoin to the extent Wikipedia declared it as scam, there was a time many countries did not accept bitcoin. Bitcoin with time has been showing how itself can be so important to the world, and more countries are accepting it now. Bitcoin ATMs installation is increasing and a time will come when countries all over the world will accept bitcoin.

Theres nothing to be surprise in the result because 95% of all crypto related busines and exchange site in Africa dwell their business in South Africa since SA have better infrastructure but Nigeria seems to be the number one Africa country to welcome every new technology or development which is the reason why they have the highest tradinf volume.

I dont have clear memory about Wikipedia tagging Bitcoin as scam, but sure I heard it before when some crypto involved people in my place introduced their own product of cryptocurrency called "One Coin" (I'm not sure about the name but it sound something like that since that's way back in 2012), and that's when people in my place was introduced first about Bitcoin. I wasn't in crypto by that time.

I myself haven't seen a Bitcoin ATM yet, but I'm happy to see places and countries installed more ATMs as it will be a great factor for it's adoption and popularity.
In my country we have like a handful of Bitcoin ATMs but its all located a thousand miles away from where I live lol.
Lastly, I am looking forward to what you have said in your last statement  Grin

Of course, the volume thing is correct and that's why the almighty Binance exchange has a Naira trading pair for Nigeria. Nigerians dominate Binance with patronage and that explains it.

but sure I heard it before when some crypto involved people in my place introduced their own product of cryptocurrency called "One Coin" (I'm not sure about the name but it sound something like that since that's way back in 2012)
It was One Coin, a project that never had anything to do with crypto at the time but wanted the crypto feel to deceive many people. I was nearly caught in that web of deceit. It never got listed on any exchange. We also had Swisscoin and TBC (The Billion Coin) in 2017. Swisscoin managed to get on Coin exchange and dumped there but TBC never got listed on any exchange till this moment even though hodlers of this coin still believe it will.

Thanks OP for creating this detail thread on bitcoin ATM in Africa. Quite sad though we have only one in Nigeria, thought I saw a trend something back about a new one been installed in Abuja but just did some research and found out it was just a rumor.  With Nigeria having the highest trading volume in Africa and completing with most 1st world countries I thought we would have had more than one especially in the big cities like Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, any day we get one installed in my city, I'll be among the very first patronizers and if I wait for a long time without any positive news of one been installed then I might probably take a trip down to Lagos just to patronize the Bitcoin ATM they have over there.

Love it when my country (Nigeria) Isn't been left out of the fun of cryptocurrency, more wins to the county as young and brilliant cryptopreneur are emerging steadily.

I love this list! Thank you =) Just to say though that the site (radar) doesn't seem to be very good at updating. The one in the airport in the capital I was at took months to delist, and the ones near me haven't been available for weeks.

I was actually at one of the listed locations (Kenya) in late 2015. I do NOT recall the BATM there, so that must be new!

I think Bitcoin ATM could be another form of business in Nigeria very soon just as we have so many local exchangers now. Hopefully, there will be no serious regulations concerning crypto and other ecurrencies in Nigeria. Just like Patricia is making crypto spending online seamless by offering crypto debit card, many local exchangers might venture into Bitcoin ATM business by installing in their shops and other outlets

This is surely a sector of the world economy waiting to fly when Africa and largely, Nigeria gets more adoption into the crypto space. This is because Nigerians are huge investors and more installations of bitcoin ATM will surely create more interest..

Here's the catch, sure the numbers are very high when it comes to bitcoin trading and cryptocurrency in general in Nigeria but how many of this enthusiast actually use bitcoin for their day to day expenses that need for an ATM should be deem necessary? The fiat debit cards are even finding it very difficult to get the citizens of their patronage that's why the banks are forcing the use of the cards on their customers. This days you get a debit card even before you complete the opening of your bank account which is just irritating as we the customers should be the ones wanting the cards not the banks imposing it on us. And the worst part is the outrageous fees they charge for maintenance etc.

Nigerians in the space are mostly traders and investors so  you asking them to spend their holdings wouldn't be an easy task especially when they could get a better deal making used of their worthless Naira instead of their coins. We're still far behind when it comes to spending bitcoin but we'll get there someday.

Ps: I might even install an ATM powered by my exchange when It becomes a household name in the country. It's a dream which seems impossible for now but I'm not giving up anything soon.

Ok, I merited OP's post because it adds value to my life.. I travel a lot for my work in Africa and I have only found 1 Bitcoin ATM in South Africa, when I stayed for one day in Johannesburg (Sandton)

This will give me more options when I go into Africa, but they have almost zero merchants that accepts Crypto currencies... so I will only use it to buy things online and pay in Crypto or when I run out of gambling money. (not much to do when you sit in a Hotel at night)  Tongue

Thank you OP, enjoy your merit point.  Cool Cool
