a few days ago the opposition leader A. Navalny was most likely poisoned by the russian regime and is now in a coma. today he was finally transferred to germany and is now in berlin in the charite clinic for treatment.👍 hopefully he survives the nasty game of the russians and the whole thing will be uncovered i-navalny-treatment-germany-200821063439472.htmlWhat's even more infuriating is the unwillingness of gov-controlled doctors to give any details on the situation and give him out to actually get some treatment

@cygan this is sad and really low level politics, and I don’t even understand why Putin needs to do it and even though it’s yet not officially confirmed that he’s involved, but unofficially we all know that he’s involved in this directly. Also I know that Navalny has been constantly criticising Putin, but even then Putin has unlimited power so once again I’m confused why would he stoop so low and use such dirty tricks?. @geeica0613 yea what those doctors did was really sad, and initially they didn’t even allow his wife to meet him, but finally they relented and allowed her inside.

He doesn't need to do it, but the fact is that he can do it with impunity. Putin is untouchable in Russia, and so is able to crush all opposition. And as recent history has shown, other countries will do nothing to stop him. China is an ally, the US under Trump has turned its back on the world, the EU is scared. Every time he does something like this, and the only effect is a bit of grumbling in the international community, it encourages him to do the same again in the future. And each time he does so, it reinforces his strong-man image. We see the same behaviour with other powerful countries, most notably China's approach towards Hong Kong.

If Navalny survives this ordeal, I'm sure it's going to leave him in a very bad physical condition, he could lose proper functioning of vital parts of his body and that will one way or another end his criticism against Putin and his government, and that is exactly why this attack was perpetrated, It's either to kill him or render him handicap. It's sad how modern day politics has resulted into silencing strong oppositions to dictatorial rule. There's no point in asking what the world is going to do, this sort of attack comes from the top and it's done with utmost shrewdness, there can be absolutely no trace.

the first doctors from the charite clinic in berlin have spoken out and they have come to the conclusion that there is a high probability that this was a poison attack and that A. Navalny was poisoned... Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny was 'fairly likely' poisoned, Germany says https://edition.cnn.com/2020/08/24/europe/alexey-navalny-germany-poison-grm-intl/index.html

Sad but true. While the world is busy fighting corona-related issues, dictators go nuts with no visible repercussions

Unfortunately, it's nothing new for Russia. It's not first time when they are trying to remove their opponents in similar way. Litvinenko - tea with polonium, Skripal - Novichok gas. I'm not even talking about opponents killed in other ways, like Nemtsov who was shot. Navalny probably is biggest critic of Putin in Russia. Previously there already was attempts to harm his health, they also send him to jail on regular basis. And fact that they didn't allowed Navalny to be moved to hospital in Germany for so long says a lot about this situation. I hope that he will recover.

Nothing new for Russia TOTALLY. Though I think it's fair to say that there are going to be a ton of conspiracy theories regarding this that will come out. It makes sense though, because what more would the defense community (Military Industrial Complex) / intelligence community want.
But I'll relax with the conspiracy stuff for a second, because the most likely scenario is the Kremlin trying to kill off someone who Putin thinks is a threat to him or (and) Putin is trying to send a message to other opponents of his government by doing this. Has anyone ever noticed that the Putin always makes very public attempts to kill people -- this is done to send a message, not because he enjoys the press. He uses the press to send a message with this, just like he typically does.

here is a good article describing what has happened to all the kremlin critics so far... Several prominent critics of Kremlin policies - ex-spies, journalists and politicians - have been poisoned in the past two decades. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-53907761

I think it would be naive to expect that this project will be stoped. It's very big and important project, too much money was invested into it to stop when pipeline is almost finished. IMO, no matter what Russia will do, Germany will never impose sanctions that actually will hurt Russia. And these plans to stop pipeline project comes from opposistion, they don't have any power. Probably they just want to get attention and give some pressure for Merkel.

Nice update and good to hear. Will probably be in his best interest to stay out of Russia, and keep his opposition online. There will totally be more attempts for his life though, hopefully the western countries of the world will protect him in some way. Sadly though, this entire poisoning by the Russian government and all that did everything that they wanted to do with this attempted assassination. They stoke fear in the eyes of all of those that are publicly against the Putin administration in Russia, and ensure that they know the consequences of being against the authoritarian government of Russia.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated. Little update of my own regarding how Navalny was actually poisoned: CNN (and other outlets) is reporting that there is trace amounts of poison found on his water bottle from the hotel that he was staying at in Siberia. Further, CNN is saying that when hsi team notyiced that he had fallen ill that they had gathered a LOT of items in the room and put them in bags to ensure that everything could be tested. This was a way to try to find SOMETHING that could have potentially poisoned him. When the police came, they were interestingly interested in the water bottle. So yeah, Russia did this but we all knew that already. This sends a clear message to anyone who wants to try to be opposition to Putin. Leaders of the world should rally against Putin and this. Not OKAY at all to just turn a blind eye on it just because 'cant confirm' Source: https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/17/europe/navalny-novichok-poisoned-water-intl/index.html

Navanlny describes his recovery process: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/alexei-navalny-shares-photo-speaks-initial-despair-when-waking-coma-n1240543Guy went to Yale in the states too, should have just stayed. Russia will never be an ally of the United States and they should be treated exactly as China. I would predict the U.S. would go to war with Russia within a few decades if they had any economic power, but they couldn't afford war. Their economy is already in shambles. I don't think their military is equipped well enough either.

Total +1 to that. Russia is literally as bad as China, though they just don't have the economic power to be as much of a force when it comes to sanctioning them. China has that going for them, which has let them get away with being a piece of shit nation for awhile, but Russia is just something else. Most of Russias economy is HIGHLY dependent on the oil/gas market (which is very weirdly highly connected with the Europe) which is something that countries should focus on to shut down Russia. Russia is a piece of shit country (alongside China) both should be dealt with like enemies to the USA.

It's good to read that Navalny is getting better. But I'm wondering what will happen when he will return to Russia. It will be so unsafe for him there if he will continue his activities. Total +1 to that.

As bad as China? IMO, Russia is much worse. China is much bigger threat for USA in terms of economics. While Russia with their impetialist politics is much bigger threat in general. But maybe not for USA in general, but for their allies in Europe.
