He had a lot of success in his short time at Real Madrid and he wanted more changes in the team but Real management may not have liked some of his decisions. Chelsea have discussed everything with Alonso before appointing him and I think the team will be able to learn the best tactics from a talented manager like him. You are absolutely correct, you can not sign a player because he is good but doesn't have respect or a player who has respect but doesn't play well that is going to backlash some day whether they like it or not but sometimes some manager still sign players regardless of all of these features. The truth is that everyone has an atom of disrespect in them but it should not be obvious or much because if it is much no one will sign such player. Not having high hope of Xabi and the Chelsea sides is very much an agreeable point,  we know the team has been doing poorly in recent seasons but the arrival of a coach as xabi should not come with a magical expectation,  they will need to build and gradually get the team back into a good shape that places them at the top of the league enough to want to contend for the title. 
Giving him the whole of this season to get along with the team will be even better than having too high expectations of him.

And what's the skill we are talking about here? 

I see nothing exceptional in Xabi Alonso coaching style. He's just an average coach but luck saw him through the season he led Bayern Leverkusen to glory. Bayern Munich as the dominant club in the Bundesliga were too relent and Leverkusen made good use of the opportunity.

Xabi was more of a spectator at Real Madrid than a coach. No meaningful impact other than what Madrid already established. I will love to see him prosper at Chelsea but hey lower your expectations because he's gotten no much to offer.

There are 2 clubs that seem interested in recruiting Gernacho, namely AS Roma and Napoli, they need to negotiate with Chelsea and the club that makes the highest offer will definitely get Gernacho, if Gernacho does not leave Chelsea, it is likely that he will only sit on the bench because Chelsea does not need a player like Gerbacho, so instead of playing for the team, wouldn't it be better for him to go and play for another team to continue honing his performance skills.

His target this season will be to build a stable squad. To create a decent bonding between the players. And to bring some stability to the overall performance. I think Garnacho might end up as a free agent. His inconsistency is too much and he plays the game without passion. He was signed as the Blue co guy was always looking for cheaper players and ended up signing more liabilities than assets. Roma is not stupid enough to sign the guy in a competitive league. Garnacho needs to go to places like Norway, Greece or Portugal to start all over again to learn football, his quality is nothing to write home about now and it is a good decision by Alonso not to include him in the squad.
