I recently downloaded awesome miner. It may not have been through the manufacturer. But the version I downloaded had a virus! I tried to delete the folder (I could not) I Ctrl,Alt,Delete and clicked end task. Tried to delete the folder again and it said cannot delete, folder is open elsewhere. Well I tried and tried. It ended up like lagging out my internet. I could not use my Playstation 4, Netflix on my Television or ANYTHING!!!! I really liked the functions of the miner. I could connect to my Asic. as well as connect any miners I have on my PC. But It killed my PC the only way I found to delete it was to completely reset my computer.

Now I am not saying awesome miner is a virus. I am just saying that the version I happened to download for sure was. withing 1 day of me downloading it. My computer was useless. I am about 98% sure it was the version I downloaded within 24 hours before!

Please if anyone else has ever used awesome miner please give me your input. If you have never used it. You may want to research more and make sure they are legit before doing so. Or maybe download directly from the developer.

I was just looking into mining raven coin and messed everything up! Anyways any info is appreciated thanks!

I am not accusing Awesome Miner of having a virus but the version I downloaded did! Please research and make sure you download directly from the developer before downloading. It may be possible the version I downloaded had a virus attached. To be honest I am not even sure where I got it as I reset my PC. The page seemed to look pretty legit. But looks can be deceiving!

I hope this is the correct section for this this!

Why would you ever download software that is not from official developer's website?

No point in making this thread to be honest. It's like downloading fake facebook and thinking if real facebook might be a virus because you were stupid enough to download fake one.

well he could have let us known how he managed to use a bad link.

Would have been nice to screen shot the bad link so people know to not use it.

Did he do a google search to get the bad link?

That could be partially useful, but still, not useful enough for an exclusive thread IMHO.

And as I already said/asked, why would anyone download any software that is not from official developer's website and expect it to be legit?

I can only guess and he did not tell us how.
Maybe there is a deceptive link that tricked him.

Been a long time since I have been tricked, but it does happen.
I am curious as to how he managed to fuck up.

At op Do you use just one pc?

if you mine you should have a few cheap ones for downloading software just in case you load garbage.

I have like 3 or 4 of these.

just swap the hdd for an ssd and it is decent for mining.  and if you get bad software you can wipe the ssd.

Well my PC crapped out and I could not find the link as it shut my PC down.

I will dig around for the link. I was looking into mining Gleec actually. I went to a pool and clicked the get started like I normally do. It then took me to a website that looked like the developers page. It was Awesomeminer.something. I was only trying to help someone in the future.

I was mining Raven with my PC and I seen gleec was an sha-256 algo. So I tried to hook up my old Antminer. Instead of active I was getting dead. So I dug around to find a software I could mine with my CPU. I will find the link later and figure out where I screwed up.

I was only wondering if Awesome Miner itself was a virus or possibly just the version I downloaded was!

I'm not to tech savy. Im only a beginner It seemed to be the direct link. It took me to an awesome miner Github. But I am starting to think it was an off brand github.

As far as Posting an exclusive thread? Thats why I said not sure if this is correct place for it. I do not post here. But I fig scam accusations thread would not be right either as Im not 100% it was the developers link.

Im not going to accuse AwesomeMiner unless I am 100% they are scammers. I really think I just found a bad version. Idk how you guys do the virus check trying to learn.

Seems like every miner I have ran virus check through pops up with some type of red flags even the legit ones.

^^ Proper place to post is the Awesomeminer thread...
Requested the mods move it there.
Oh, while you are there DO make sure Patrike knows about the bad git so he can try and do something about it or at least warn folks!
AM does not have you dl from a git. Official site is https://www.awesomeminer.com/download
