I'm getting the following error on my Sparrow wallet running on a local node:

"Connection failed: IO error (Cannot find Bitcoin Core cookie file at [path]/.bitcoin/.cookie)"

Haven't had this issue before, is there a fix for this?

I never encountered such error message, but according to craigraw

So, based on his response I would suggest checking if your bitcoin.conf file is still in its place and properly configured meaning it has entry relevant to datadir path.

Thanks, I was able to fix it with this info. I just had to change the data directory in my Sparrow server settings.

You must have set the other required settings for that to work by just setting the datadir.

Because that mentioned ".cookie" file wont be created by Bitcoin Core if its set use the deprecated rpcuser and rpcpassword
and/or server=1 isn't set in your bitcoin.conf file or "Enable RPC Server" is not enabled in your Bitcoin-qt (GUI) setting.

I mentioned it so that you'll know which settings that you haven't touched are essential to your setup.

I think Sparrow is a really solid choice if you're mainly dealing with Bitcoin. I also like the fact that it gives you more control instead of trying to turn the wallet into an all-in-one app.

I've been comparing different wallets lately, and it actually made me realize how different the "best wallet" can be depending on what you're doing. I wouldn't use the same wallet for long-term savings and for connecting to random dApps, for example.

I put together a comparison of some of the options here, including Sparrow's alternatives like Electrum, Ledger, Trezor and a few others:
...
The Sparrow Wallet isn't even part of that review of yours that you have linked to. I don't think you will find many people that will agree with your conclusions at the end of your blog post. Among other things, you recommend a Ledger and Tangem for long-term storage. You also recommend Trust Wallet as a mobile wallet for multi-chain use. You won't gain much sympathy with that.

Perhaps the addition of wallets for advanced users would make the post more complete. There you could take a look at airgapped and stateless signing devices.

I checked my bitcoin.conf file, and it does include the line server=1. I think I added that line in order to use my node with Sparrow. I think that error occurred after I moved my node to a different directory awhile ago. I forget why I did that, and I hadn't run Sparrow since making that change.
