Hey Newbies (& Jr Members)! I want to give you the opportunity to earn some merit by using your Bitcoin client (or whatever you use). There is a great guide linked below showing you how to sign a message. If you can sign a message from your Bitcoin address with your bitcointalk username, post it here and I will send you merit. Enjoy!

My doubt, regarding signing in segwit address is if this is a "bug" and will soon be corrected, or is it an abandoned feature?
It is neither a bug nor an abandoned feature. It is just that we are still working on creating a more generalized signing scheme that lets people sign with things like P2SH addresses (e.g. sign with a multisig address). There is simply no standard yet for signing with such scripts or with Segwit.

Hi, thanks for quoting that discussion. This was my first discussion here in bitcointalk, more than 2 years ago, and the problem is still not solved... i wish we had a solution for this, so we all could really stop using legacy addresses for good,.

While electrum did a nice solution, we still need a solution which is widely verified by any software.

I believe your good nature in this undertaking has been abused right from the start:

Indeed.  That is what this community does and isn't limited to merit.  If what you say is happening in this thread is true, then it is a very good example of how this forum is allowing scammers to make multiple accounts to abuse the system for their own benefit at the cost of generous members offering their time and resources to help others.  If you think people are willing to go far to earn a merit, imagine the kind of nonsense occurring to get multiple accounts into the DT network to inflate their trust ratings and punish those who stand up against them.
How about increasing the level from now on?  Cheesy

Set a requirement to use only vanity adresses with at least 4 digits. Most likely that will help to prevent *some* fraudulent practices if we add more requirements (at least x posts, at least x registration duration etc.).

That is really sad to see so many users trying to abuse this topic using newly created accounts just to spam.
I think setting a vanity address is going to be nice, however I think a minimum merit requirement would be interesting (like 2-3 merit)

I don't want to require that level of technical prowess in order for newbies to earn a merit, nor do I want to require that they use software outside of Bitcoin Core to participate.

I'm doing this for newbies to help them earn merit, so setting a post or age requirement goes against what I'm trying to achieve.  Granted, this thread is displaying major problems with this forum, which boils down to signature campaigns being mismanaged to the point that users are willing to spend their time signing up multiple accounts here to earn merit so they can enroll and earn Bitcoin from lazy campaign managers; and an easily manipulated trust network that rewards alt account users.  I think those are the issues here that need addressing, not my offer to give merit to newbies able to sign an address.

Sure, it would be very nice but I don't have any problems to use legacy addresses for signing. At least, these "old" legacy addresses still have that mayor benefit over SegWit, that signing is fully compatible. It seems to me addresses starting with 1... are increasingly getting "hated" because SegWit is more efficient.  Cheesy

Lazy users who earned merit here won't go too far. Bounties are their only choices. Good campaigns are not accept them as participants.

I see some members registered accounts and jumped directly to the topic in few minutes or hours.

This is an example of a good user newbie that I think has a lot of knowledge about cryptocurrency. I learn to sign in a message in BTC wallet after having some activities being made here in the forum.

OgNasty has been supporting newbie and other low rank in the forum. This is ideal for me to motivate the newbie to continue doing good by always contributing meaningful posts that could help the forum to minimize the shit posting activity usually being done by the low rank users. This newbie receiving merits should take chances to grow more and develop their knowledge in regards to cryptocurrency and if possible to rank up from newbie to higher rank as time pass by. This should help them and if they think merit received not helpful then they can have regret in time why not doing good when they were being supported already with this guy!

Hi, can I sign again to get the merit? Or is it already impossible to do it for me?

Such a stupid question and it seems you prefer to eat for free. you sing once and get merit from it then there is no suggestion to do it a second time. You know all the active newbies here are being helped with merit and they are being motivated so that they can work properly in this form.

Note: If you want to get a lot of merit and increase your rank then help the second person here with your skills. Keep in mind that merit is managed on the basis of your skills and merit is not available for free

Why does the possibility of getting a negative reputation depend on my account history?
For getting merit in this topic, will I not get a bad reputation?

Will my reputation be minus for getting a free reputation?

Hard to tell at this point:

We'll have to wait and see I guess.
Why does the possibility of getting a negative reputation depend on my account history?
For getting merit in this topic, will I not get a bad reputation?
Your account is very strange because registered in May 2013 but your post first time on 1st October 2020 its mean something fishy happen.
