For long, politicians have been skeptical about crypto/Blockchain tech as it provides an "escape route" from the existing monetary system controlled by governments worldwide. Some of them have seen the benefits of this emerging industry, showing their support for crypto. In the US, a presidential candidate named "Andrew Yang" publicly expressed his support for crypto/Blockchain technology. Other politicians have touched the subject lightly. All of this is good since it helps Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies grow in the mainstream world. The same politicians supporting this emerging industry, could perform legislations to make crypto/Blockchain tech more legitimate in the mainstream world. Yet, the number of politicians supporting crypto is very small compared to those who don't.

Which politicians support Bitcoin? Do you think world leaders will embrace crypto/Blockchain tech at its fullest? Or will they go against it? What impact will mainstream politics have in the future direction of Bitcoin? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley

Let us expect that there will be a few countries that will go against it as it can't please all of them. I think these politicians doesn't really see the technicalities of bitcoin but they only see it simply as an investment asset and, as long as it can potentially give profit to the investors, that's how they understand and giving it an importance.

The impact, I guess not that much for those politicians and countries that doesn't really have a say about bitcoin or blockchain. They will never know how many bitcoin people are there in their country unless there's an established exchange in their place and being used by most.

Everything's just a matter of time. It is slowly happening, the understanding of Bitcoin by politicians. However, if the current batch of politicians are really against Bitcoin, then I am more than sure the next ones, which are composed of younger minds, would be in favor of it.

It is expected that the old dogs are the hardest to convince. In the first place, Bitcoin is alien to many of them. Aside from that, they're already too comfortable and have a stake in the old system. Perhaps a great many of them are puppets of the old elites, the ones who built and benefited from the current system.

Cryptocurrency becomes more powerful from day to day. This tendency can't be ignored of put aside by politicians.
Bitcoin or crypto friendly politicians:
The US congressman Jared Polis was vocal on Bitcoin in March 2019.
Andrew Hemingway spoke about the potential of distributed ledger tech and praised blockchain.
Gulnar Hasnain, a Green Party candidate running for a district in Central London, noted that she wants to draw attention to the positive aspects of blockchain technology.
George Galloway, a Mayoral candidate for London, announced his plans to leverage blockchain technology and track the Mayor of London’s expenditure in a bid for greater transparency.

Definitely those hard ass old dogs will be the last to accept the capabilities but I do not think that they still have a big leverage over and they can do so because they have connections. I think the best thing that the old dogs can do is convince those in favor of mass adoption to vote in their favor. Further studies to make sure all loopholes in cryptocurrency is covered will hopefully make this old dogs consider their stance on mass adoption.

There will be old dogs that will be in support of Bitcoin but I think their number does not outweigh the current political climate to make a dent. Young and visionary politician will be the key to victory for this kind of issue.

Which politicians support Bitcoin? Do you think world leaders will embrace crypto/Blockchain tech at its fullest?

No politician truly supports Bitcoin, Bitcoin was created to remove centralization in economy, which if achieved would put many politicians out of their jobs. Even those who say that they support it actually want to regulate it and maybe even control it. The best support a politician can give to Bitcoin is to just ignore it.

What impact will mainstream politics have in the future direction of Bitcoin?

None, Bitcoin community and developers don't care that much about what politicians say or do regarding Bitcoin.

I have seen in our country also not many politicians truly understand the bitcoin. based on the media reports or just reading negative news only they demand that it should not be allowed as it is threat, people lose money etc. They are not ready to understand the advantages or deeply go through it and this is where it hurts the most.

Also remember that government or the people behind it, the politicians can make a sudden shift and make a U-turn in their support/oppose of crypto, so it doesn't matter though. Of course we wanted to see governments around the world putting 100% behind crypto but I guess it won't happen as there could be some governments who are going to see crypto in bad light whatever good and positive effects it can bring to them. Supporting bitcoin and supporting blockchain technology is different though. Like China for instance, they have a lot and hate relationship to bitcoin, but with blockchain technology it's different. They have embrace and welcome it with open arms, just look at the patents they have been filing and only US can rival them in terms of the numbers of patents being filed.

That's why bitcoin adoption is still hard to achieve because big countries still don't know what is the importance of bitcoin into society and economy.

There's something more about bitcoin that they should understand because it has a lot of benefits to take advantage for. I just don't know why they are wasting the opportunity to earn profits using this cryptocurrency in the market. Investors should engage to it before it's too late and they should learn everything about bitcoin and how it can change someone's perspective towards economy.

As we know there are countries already accepted the use of the cryptocurrency and the bitcoin too, AFAIK on my country they are not totally supporting the use of the bitcoin by just buying it instead they are just regulating the use of the bitcoin also they already have created a PH exchange which is the coin.pro beta on my country, with the use of the wallet and exchange created by our government they are now using this to buy a mobile load, paying bills, transfer funds with the use of the banks. The problem is only few of us on our country are supporting this kind of coin as a payment and commonly use for our daily lives. If this may happen that even the politician will support the use of the bitcoin I think it may cause a lot of troubles because there are a lot of corrupt here but if they use this in the good way there is a chance that the lives of the people makes more easier with the use of this innovations.

It is rather pointless to mention a candidate for the US presidential election who has no chance of winning the election and whose political influence is almost imperceptible. Even if that is not the case, politicians are known for saying one thing before the election and doing something completely different after the election - if it were not so, the world would be a very nice place to live for all people.

It is also a completely wrong notion that politicians rule the world by making their own decisions, because behind them have always been the interests of those who actually draw moves from the shadows - money is power, and politicians certainly do not have it to be independent in their decisions.

Be happy when the state has given a signal to be able to acknowledge and allow it to be used as a legal transaction tool. because my country does not and has not recognized it at all and has not made definite regulations only it seems that the important thing is not to prohibit and be allowed to exchange for fiat but directly for bitcoin transactions is not allowed. As long as it is still permissible to exchange bitcoins to fiat, it actually doesn't matter, the state cannot collect taxes from every transaction that occurs. but it could be that the government thinks of something else and I don't and don't understand.

politicians are politicians. they can change their stance in a snap if it will favour their image. but even without them, bitcoin and blockchain tech will survive. but of course, with the govt support, people will trust crypto more. because most newcomers have the same perception that bitcoin or crypto is fraud.
so if these politicians will be positive bout crypto, maybe people will start to educate themselves and learn more during this process. remember, education is the key to address ignorant people.

I think that 90% of the politicians worldwide are neutral about Bitcoin-they don't support it,but they don't want to destroy it either.Maybe they simply don't care.Only a really small number of politicians actually care about Bitcoin and support the ideas of decentralization, the problem is that those politicians are mostly unpopular outsiders(like Andrew Wang).I don't know about any politicians in my country, who actively support Bitcoin.
Another problem is that 99% of the politicians are financially dependent and corrupted by the financial world, which means that they don't have the balls to stand up and take the power away from the banks and big corporations.

In my country large scale mining were done by politically supported persons. These were kept confidential, because the electricity consumption is availed free of cost. It means it is got under the free electricity provided for agricultural purpose.

Politicians are benefitting good out of bitcoin, and what is happening with USA is the political game. Now vote, power, and donations are much required. Maybe a positive attitude on bitcoin can get the support of the bitcoiners.

Some may say since my experience is coming form Africa it might not matter much since Africa has the less impact when crypto regulations and global adoption is been discussed but that won't stop me from writing on it. Politician in Nigeria are already buying into the potential the blockchain technology has to offer. Some years back I did a thread titled; Nigerias presidential Candidate Promises Cryptocurrency Regulation if elected unfortunately it didn't work in his offer as he lost the presidential election but that didn't stop the currency from gaining the attention of the government as few weeks back, a not so surprising news broke and I also did a thread on it Breaking NEWS: SEC, Bitcoin now legal (a security) in Nigeria.

All these development points towards an economy where bitcoin won't be seen as a fraudster way of sending and receiving funds in country don't know for the rest of the world but soon (in my country) it'll be widely supported by all including the politicians and could even enhance their political campaign too.

Still we shouldn't based the success of bitcoin on this, the industry has progress this far without the legalization of the government and it will keep progressing with our without their support.

Some leaders in the world or in some countries will not fully support bitcoin, only a few leaders support bitcoin and provide clear regulations such as in the governments of the US, South Korea and other countries. in developing countries like in my country the government only provides regulation as commodity trading. There are many pros and cons about using Bitcoin and blockchain technology. There are politicians who are very supportive and many who are not. Some politicians don't even understand bitcoin and blockchain technology.

I think it takes time for politicians and governments around the world to support bitcoin. They currently only see bitcoin as a profitable but risky investment, limiting their support for bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
In the future when the cryptocurrency develops more I think politicians will have a different view of bitcoin.

That is good news for the crypto market and for everyone. I firmly believe that in the future there will be more crypto advocates than now, governments and politicians will accept cryptocurrencies as part of the financial background.
