I saw a notification of a message from a stranger today today and I decided to reply because I was able to view this person's phone number.
So after the greetings and everything, this person said he wants to buy my wallet ( My eth wallet) I was shocked but I had to continue the conversation because I've never come across anyone buying empty ether wallet because the address starts with some sort of alphabets or numbers and also willing to pay 0.1 eth for an empty wallet. So i asked him to wait and I went to my browser to check if my wallet is eligible for uni token. I saw claim uni and I was like. How?. So,I checked all my previous transactions and I saw and unsuccessful Uniswap transaction. This made me remembere that I once made an unsuccessful transaction on Uniswap trying to buy yam token.

See the screenshots of the conversation

He later begged for 50/50 share on my own UNI after trying to trick me with 0.1 eth to get UNI that worth more than 5eth.

So, I was able to became aware that I'm eligible for 400 UNI because I replied a stranger's message
Im trying to be honest.
I used my brain and I understand that buying and empty ether wallet because of some sorts of numbers doesn't makes sense.
And Not because I'm smarter than anyone but because I don't let 0.1 eth freak me.
So, always, try to be honest and your positive thought will fetch you something right to do.

Thanks to the scammer for letting me know that I have UNI  Grin

You played his game very well that you gained something without giving up anything. You turn the situation upside down that you made him beg for something you have. A nice way to handle today's scammer.

This just proves that internet is just right there beside you, if you are suspicious of something, just research something about it, look for something that will ease your suspicion. The more knowledgable you get, the more you gain advantage against something like this

You got it.. Scammers are just too greedy and eager to get what they want. I know he will have been thinking of a way and strategy to use  for a while before deciding to starting is scamming operation. But unfortunately as u have said,

I’m so glad I’ve hardly ever interacted with anyone using Telegram: As far as I recall, one forum member, and a couple of ICO managers back in the day (didn't that go well ...). It seems so full of needless conversations initiated by scammers that get a free pass at trying to take on people one-on-one.

The sad part is that a large sum of people do not delimit their privacy setting, and are therefore approached unwillingly. Those that are gullible enough may be tricked into any sort of rough deal hidden behind a party cake, often to find out that it’s no sweet deal.

Lol, story. Unfortunately, the one who tried to scam you were got nothing but the good thing is, it helps you to know that you're eligible for claiming UNI which is a pretty good amount and which is free.

I've done this before, it's good playing someone who tries you to scam. It is similar to what I've experienced, asking me to withdraw his 3.6 Bitcoin on exchange and the rest of 3 will be mine. If you were smarter, you may think why someone willing to give you that amount, for sure it has an exchange that has a good benefit to them.

Congrats you didn't fool by him, it's a well-played.

Privacy settings on telegram should prevents all these kind of scam messages from scammers
Although, I never delimit privacy settings just because I never think it's that important and because I think it's only important if on has low knowledge about what's going on or receives too much messages from scammers.

Greed is one factor scammers rely on when dealing with other users. I would imagine a lot of other users would take the offer of 0.1ETH for a seemingly empty wallet address without considering the reasons why the other party needs it.

This privacy issue is what makes bounty campaigns unattractive. Bounty hunters have to give up personal information, like telegram username, and in some situation, other social media handles in order to register and such data is publicly displayed on spreadsheets, this would allow scammers to link user's identity and selectively target accounts with personalized scam attempts.

Ohh no, I don't want that stranger to call as scammer because he didn't tried to scam you? He just trying to buy the address which you didn't claimed your airdrop.

He simply want to make money from your ignorance but got backfired at the end.

He is a scammer.. If he had told me at the beginning of the conversation.. I would have given him 100 UNI to say thanks. But instead, he tried to trick me to get all the UNI in my wallet..
Also, no ignorance in that because I never remember making a transaction with the wallet.
I only forgot and he wanted to take advantage of that instead of helping... Someone like that could personally find a way to get peoples private key and steal their funds

It is funny that he even begged for 50/50 share. I don't think anyone will do that for someone you don't know over social media channel. But one thing we learned here, even if your eth wallet had no successful transaction in Uni but at one point, you tried to use their service even if unsuccessful, you still have the chance to claim UNI. So for all users that had used Uniswap before, who maybe forgot already, just check your eth wallet if it is eligible for airdrop.

These are just some of the scammers who are aware of your valuable empty wallet and can make UNI claims, even this method is nothing more than begging. There are many other methods that are more extreme than this and ask to withdraw from their own website as if the scammer has a lot of Bitcoin and will share it with us, but on condition that they make a deposit first.

I even now get more than a dozen incoming messages from unknown people on telegram and I never answer them.

You are very fortunate to be made aware by scammers about your wallet that is eligible for UNI tokens and do not share anything with scammers.

Do people really do this?
Selling their etherwallet...
It's really confusing what comfort the buyer has in knowing that you've got the private key and yet moves to buy. I don't think I'll sell it either, the hidden agenda is unimaginable and as such, I'll always fear the danger falls back to me.
You handled it nicely. Well done.

Yes people will do anything to take advantage of the free money that uni gave. Of course that will tempt someone if he has no idea of the drop right? I know it sounds really greedy but what we can do, they like to earn as much by tricking people.

No one in their right mind sell a wallet for none value. Of course there is hint with it. Its like they know you had find a treasure only you didnt know it yet. So his offering a tip of that treasure value so when you agree you realize you you lose more.

He don't want to tell you that you are eligible for the Uni token. I think I've received the same message from my long time friend but we don't talk too much. He just asked if I can give him an empty wallet but he never told me that it's all about being eligible to receive Uni token.

In the end, I've gave him a new empty wallet as in freshly made. I didn't know that he's pertaining about the airdrop of Uni.  Grin

I'm not also eligible but the share of knowledge about the airdrop, greed really is triggering people.

Scammers has so many methodology to scam people them can even call you to sell BTC for them, after getting your attention for transactions as a serious  person the next thing is to ask you to fund their wallet.
Them can even create a platform investment immediately them receive much BTC or money in their wallet them quit or shutdown the site.
So in all ramifications everyone have to be careful with online investment platforms.

They will continue developing a new tactic, and they will improve it every time it gets exposed to the public. By just looking at it, he's using his capacity to persuade that he's a trustworthy person. Little did he know he's manipulating the wrong person, it's a good thing that you have an idea to teach him a lesson. We should always remember not to trust anyone with our money and information.

How actually can know that you are the owner of that ethereum address? I mean did you publicly post the address? If so then the scammers from this forum provably. If you don't do that or don't join any bounty/airdrop then the scammer comes from there maybe.

Btw if any stranger comes to contact first and wants to do something good for you, Most of the cases this good turned into bad in a matter of time. so be careful to make any deal with strangers on the internet.

Ignorance = lack of knowledge, he want to make use of it I guess.Even if he say that to you in the beginning you are not going to give any money to him at least in practical that is why he tried his best to make some money.

There are countless scam methods and you can't learn them all, but they all have one thing in common - they all sound too good to be true. In this case, why would anyone want to buy your empty wallet? "Because they like your adddress" is a really bad explanation, cause it's just a bunch of random letters, and you can always get a similar-starting address with vanitygen. All these scams are based on a psychological trick, the tendency of many people to stop thinking rationally when they are overwhelmed with emotion, and everyone gets very happy when it seems that they are about to get some easy money. So, never let your guard down, think critically.
