In my own perception to be able to enjoy the stay here in the forum and to actively participate in discussion then think of these few tips that could help you to be a better member of this forum. Based on my observation that there are still few members that are neglecting or are unaware of the forum rules and regulations resulting to get ban in the forum, plagiarize or copying others content or ideas, shit posting and worst of all getting involved into scamming, hacking and doing fraud or other related illegal activities.

We are in bitcointalk forum and we should know how to grow and get the best out from this forum which also include on how to enjoy the stay here. Remember that you are not here only for your self but also for others that could get help from you by sharing your knowledge and expertise. This is the idea that I get when Neil Patel says that “I am not doing anything specific. I've learned that when you want to genuinely help people out and they know you want to help them without expecting anything in return, they'll gladly reciprocate by helping others out.” I am posting this to spread awareness but it does not mean that

Quote
*I am a quality poster
*A user with good reputation
*I am helpful
*I could not plagiarize
*I could not shit posts
*I could not promote scam projects and do fraud activities
*I contributed meaningful posts
*I could not be a keyboard warrior (trolling)
But for those who are newbie to be able to make a good start in the forum then think about this some tips that could make you a better member of bitcointalk forum.

First, read the bitcointalk forum rules and regulations including the thread for the newbie before posting -  Newbies - Read first before posting
Read, familiarize and learn it by heart the rules and guidelines of bitcointalk forum Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ. It all include plagiarism, trolling, shitposting and even posting pornographic image is not allowed.

Second, use the search button before posting any threads or topics you want to discuss with. Remember that when starting a new thread make sure that you are in the right section to post the thread. For example for bitcoin discussion it should be on bitcoin section or related boards and sub boards.

Third, Try to create the the best title of the topic that suits to its content. As I have observe in the major board discussions few of the topic titles are generic and it is not interesting for the readers but its content are impressive. others are none at all neither having a good content and good title. The discussion will be dynamic if title of the topic can get the attention of the readers.

Fourth, Use proper grammar when using English language. I my self had tried my very best to correct my grammar as much as I wanted to convey the idea or the message of that post that I will going to share. Unfortunately I am not good in English but still trying on how to do it better. This is not an easy task for the non native english member but I could tell you that by trying hard you can make an improvement not only learning from mistakes but also learning from other member in here as well from their inputs or insights.

Fifth, Learn to post all details necessary for the readers not to get confused. The readers are not a fortune teller that could verify the unknown details that are not disclose in the post. Make sure to include necessary details so that other users can get discussions about the topic.

Sixth, Read all the post above before making the reply. As much as possible try to avoid replies that are already mention. You can agree to it and add details if you think it is necessary but not to repeat the same reply or ideas that has been posted above already.

Seventh - If you have queries and start a thread, try to be patient if you will not get replies right away. But pretty sure legendary rank and those reputable members will going to help and willing to share their experiences and knowledge about cryptocurrency.

Eight, Stay on topic if you will going to reply. It has also been observe that there are posts getting away from the topic. It could get confused others why at the other portion of replies are not already in line with the topic being discuss. Another thing is to avoid unecessary things to include in the reply or posts. This is the main reason why repliea will become irrelevant to the topic.

Nineth, Do not copy and paste posts of others. It is a big no no and lots of members here getting ban due to plagiarism. It is also a sign of a member being lazy by increasing activity just by doing copy and paste posts.  You should not be like this type of member for sure you will have no future.

Tenth, Do not spam like sending generic reply just to increase forum activity. It will not guarantee to a newbie to get merits in order to rank up. Remember that ranking up is possible just by doing what a member should be.

Lastly, all members should be enjoying the stay in the forum by doing good and help other members. Remember that we have chances here to do things that could help us grow and it is up to the member if he wants to grow. In the end we only regret the chances we didn't take - anonymous

Let me quote very old posts of mine

(1) Never begging for merits
Reasons:
- Doing this will highly result in Red Trust, it is just the matter of time. Sooner or later, if you keep begging for merits, you will get Red Trust, certainly.
- Doing this don't help you to improve yourself. In long-term journey in the forum, it's not good for you, generally.

(2) Spending most of your time to read and learn
Only start composing your posts when you have something extremely constructive to discussions, topics.
Reasons:
- You are noobs, newbies (lack of knowledge, and experience), so what you think are constructive most likely unconstructive in reality.
- When you actually have reasons to start composing your posts, after finishing it, please re-read again and again to check that your posts are good in grammar, vocabularies, and good enough to express most of your ideas. I wrote most of your ideas because sometimes it is difficult for non-native English speakers to write down and completely express ideas by words. It's a challenge for non-native English speakers, who don't have English as their mother tongue.

(3) Never copy and paste without links to sources, or without quotes
Reasons:
- It is plagiarism, and punishments on plagiarism is kind of strictest ones in the forum.
Plagiarists who got permanent bans almost won't be allowed to come back.
There are new changes by @theymos, that allow perma-banned users give proofs, evidence of their contributions to the forum to come back.
But, the probabilty to have second chance is very very low.
There's been no policy change. redsn0w wasn't permanently banned due to several factors which made me think that permabanning him would be a net negative for the forum. Nobody is banned strictly because of "the rules"; it's always handled case-by-case, but almost always, plagiarists deserve to be permabanned.

If you think that a ban should be ended, make your case in a new topic from a "good for the forum as a whole" perspective.
You should not expect that chance when perma-banned due to plagiarism.
- How to insert quote, please look at the image. It is very easy, click on the quote button at the upper corner on the right side of each post you want to quote.
You need statistics on perma-banned users due to plagiarisms? There you go:
How many banned users have you merited? (by LoyceV)

(4) Never mind of bounties, campaigns when you are noobs
Reasons:
- Campaigns are there, open then close, then others open and close, from time to time. You should never worry that you miss this chance, that chance, this campaign, that campaign, something like this.
It is the same as merits. Lots of users complain that merits are rare, I can not get merits due to it is rare. Nope, merits (more exactly, sMerits - sendable merits) are available, everywhere in the forum. There are so many merit sources, normal users, who have lots of sMerits readily to send out. They kept them partially due to quality posts are rare, not sMerits.
- Instead of paying too much attention, and time on hunting for bounties, especially bounties that have easy rules and joinable for low rank users; you should start learning, reading, and build up your accounts.
When you hit your finish lines, it's time for you to seriously think of joining bounties.

(5) Learn from inspirational stories. Learn from merited users, topics, posts
Reading and learning from most merited users, and most merited topics, posts are one of the best way to improve your post quality, coherence and cohesion when you compose your posts, topics.
I have a topic on: Inspirational stories from self-made promoted users

(6) Spend your time to improve your English, especially Reading and Writing skills
Reasons:
- If you can not read posts or topic in English well, can not get ideas of posts' / topics' authors, it means that you have nothing to do in the forum.
Remember that you have to get their ideas well enough to not misunderstand their core ideas.
- Next, after reading good enough to catch authors' ideas, it is time for you to express your own ideas in case you have something to ask for help, something to discuss, or something meaningful to help others. This is the time you need to have good enough Writing skill.
This is why I mentioned you should improve your English skills, step by step, from Reading to Writing. Of course, you can improve both skills simultaneously.
The forum is the place almost solely for discussions via Reading and Writing.
You can find available sources for English learning in the References at the end of this OP.

(7) Don't pay your attention on post-length  (Ideas that I took from theymos' Writing a welcome message)
If you make ten thousand posts in a week, your activity will be capped and you will still be a Newbie. If you make ten thousand useless posts over any period of time, you will gain zero merit and you will still be a Newbie. You can rank up only by making good posts consistently. It's quality over quantity.

When trying to write quality posts, a lot of people act as though they're writing a book report for school: putting facts that we already know into their own words. Nobody wants to read that, and you will not get merit for it. Moreover, the length of your post and the quality of your English are only minor factors. In trying to write a quality post worthy of merit, you should offer new ideas, personal experiences, or perspectives that other forum users will actually find new and interesting.

Remember that promoting with merit system is a challenge, but you can do make it.
And, when got promoted, you are different, different from airdroped users at the same rank.
It means you will become more competitive when applying to join campaigns.

Now, let's get started with your own journey that lead to your finish lines!

References:
The most fundamental list of guides, that you should spend most of your time to read.
Those guides are helpful not only for promotions, but also for your crypto lives in general.
GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread (until there is a dedicated subforum?) (by LoyceV)

From my story, there are lots of things to learn in the forum (I actually keep learning every day); and there are also lots of things, and lots of different ways to help others (with what you have). Maintaining your positive attitude, to learn, and to help; you will rank up, gradually, and nearly effortlessly.

It is ridiculous to say you have to make efforts effortlessly, but it is fact, believe me. When time goes on, and you become a real constructive user, your posting habit changed completely, and you will be unable to make shit posts. That is why I use the term: Making efforts effortlessly!

This one is something I like to do, but it's more difficult if you're actually posting in a page other than the first (I prefer to always post on the first page of a thread), If you're making a post on maybe the second, third or fourth + page , it's pretty difficult to read every post made prior to the one you're about to make and tbh everyone will feel lazy to do that.

That being said, I think the most salient is to make sure to have read the op very well and few replies afterwards to be sure if there is still a need to post your own ideas. And another thing is, most times discussions changes slightly away from the original post and posters who post a little later, after reading only the op, might look slightly off-topic, so if the thread is more than two pages or so, it's good to read the op, few replies after the op and a few replies before the one you're about to make, it'll help to understand the thread much better, without reading everything.

This I must say is what I have been doing for some time now and like you said some pay /accept low ranking members like me while others don't so I would advice other bounty hunters out there to focus on contributing to the forum rather than coming here with the sole aim of making money.

Fifth, Learn to post all details necessary for the readers not to get confused. The readers are not a fortune teller that could verify the unknown details that are not disclose in the post. Make sure to include necessary details so that other users can get discussions about the topic.

This is needed especially if you are stating some phrases, you need to cite it and put your sources to avoid plagiarism in your posts.

Also giving full details will make readers to become more enlightened about your topic and about what you are try to say on your thread.

By that, you can help those people to fully understand what you are try to say. A posts that are not in a complete detail is really lack of potential for readers to believe and absorb it. So never forget to give all the details, when you are paraphrasing, don't forget to cite and give all the full details so that you will become a more quality poster.

<snip>
I agree with you, most of the newbie topic or post started had no details to include for us to make a good reply. Mostly we will just going to speculate on things that might happen of that post then post the replies. I hope this change in the future to include all the details of the posts as much as possible to direct the discussions or answer if it the posts is all about queries or questions regarding a certain topic related to cryptocurrency.

First, read the bitcointalk forum rules and regulations including the thread for the newbie before posting -
Reading these both threads is really important, beginners should read it first before anything else, it will help them avoid making mistakes. It will also guide them on how they should act as a member of this forum. Without the rules, our forum will not be so good as what it is now. Beginners who don't even spend their time reading the rules can be prone to having violations.

Quote
Second, use the search button before posting any threads or topics you want to discuss with.
I agree with this, make it as your habit before you create a thread to avoid topic redundancy, you may also use the search engine of the forum whenever you want to know something. If you are looking for an answer to some of your questions, the search button can help you.

Quote
Third, Try to create the the best title of the topic that suits to its content.
This is important whenever you are going to create a thread, you should always make the title and the content-related, people might see it confusing. Just find the message of your content and you may use it as your title.
Quote

Fourth, Use proper grammar when using English language.
Even though not all of us are good in English including me, we should still try our best, it will improve as time goes by, just keep on reading because it will help you to improve your English grammar.

Quote
Fifth, Learn to post all details necessary for the readers not to get confused.
This is important, we should not skip any important information on our threads, we should also not add some unnecessary details just to make our content long, remember that quality is better than quantity.

Quote
Sixth, Read all the post above before making the reply.
This one will help you gain more knowledge and understand more about the topic, if you don't understand very well the topic then you may look for some information from the replies, some of our co-member have great experience in the topic and they can provide a good explanation about it.

Quote
Seventh - If you have queries and start a thread, try to be patient if you will not get replies right away.
Don't lose hope or get sad whenever you don't receive any replies on your topic because it doesn't mean that you created a useless or nonsense information.

Quote
Eight, Stay on topic if you will going to reply.
This is somehow related to the number 5, just focus on the topic whenever you are going to make a reply, just don't add any unnecessary information.

Quote
Nineth, Do not copy and paste posts of others.
This is written on the rules of the forum, you should never plagiarize or else you will get banned, in our real life, plagiarizing is a crime, you should know the consequences whenever you will do such things.

Quote
Tenth, Do not spam like sending generic reply just to increase forum activity.
This is true, we should avoid this thing, I've noticed some members that they are doing things like this just to complete the number of posts they should create for the campaign.
