P&O Cruises Australia’s former cruise ship the Pacific Dawn has reportedly found a unique new life as a floating community permanently anchored in the Gulf of Panama.

A company called Ocean Builders that is also developing “floating, off-grid seapod homes,” has reported entered into a deal to acquire the once pioneering cruise ship. The ship, which was built in 1991 and operated most of its career with Princess Cruises and P&O Australia, is being sold by P&O’s parent company Carnival Corporation as they work to rationalize their fleet accelerating disposals due to the impact of the pandemic on the cruising.

According to Chad Elwartowski, COO of Ocean Builders and a key investor, the company is scheduled to take delivery of the cruise ship on November 4 in the Mediterranean. They are working with Columbia Cruise Services to take care of the management of the operations of the ship which will be renamed Satoshi. the name used for the smallest unit of bitcoin.

The crypto cruise ship is named Satoshi after Bitcoin’s (BTC) pseudonymous creator, with Elwartowski claiming the vessel will host restaurants, casinos, medical services and a water park. Satoshi will anchor in the Gulf of Panama, home to many crypto exchanges, and BTC will be accepted for all on-board purchases alongside U.S. dollars.

The first 200 of Satoshi’s 777 cabins will be sold via auctions scheduled for Nov. 5 to Nov. 28. The cabins are priced between $25,000 and $50,000. However, buyers must also pay ongoing monthly fees to acquire full ownership of the cabins. The cabins will be sold one deck at a time to give associated entrepreneurs the opportunity to purchase rooms adjacent to one another.

Every promotion of Bitcoin counts. If a Bitcoin logo on a lollipop wrapper is appreciated then a Bitcoin logo on a cruise ship must be much more appreciated.

This is another great addition to the worldwide marketing of Bitcoin. This especially goes out to the wealthier people out there who can afford to buy cruise ship cabins. I am 100% sure they can also buy a lot of Bitcoins. Grin

Interesting.
Looks too centralized and heavy though.
I'd prefer some sort of modular platforms with different sizes (from small, medium to large).

In my opinion, a good crypto based project should adhere more to the ideals of Bitcoin as risk/uncertainty increase for safety reasons.

That's a really nice way to promote bitcoins, and for sure they accept bitcoin for all their services. Is like killing 2 birds with one shot, in one hand they promote bitcoin but on the other had they offer where to spend your coins if you have a nice amount of them.

I love the projext and hope to be able to ride on that ship at least once.

According to google,
Lamborghini price range $200K - $5M.
Cruise ship price range $200M - $400M.

So, we should say "WHEN CRUISE SHIP?", instead of "WHEN LAMBO".

"The cabins are priced between $25,000 and $50,000"
is it the starting price for the auction or the range of the expected price?

Another attempt to attract attention on the wave of growing interest in bitcoin. It is not entirely clear to me why this ship should be renamed to Satoshi. This ship has nothing to do with either the world of crypto technologies or the identity of the creator of bitcoin. Looks like a regular publicity stunt to attract the attention of a new clients.

So this is what a bitcoin whale should be huh? Own a Cruise Ship and name it Satoshi with BTC logo on it.

I think there's more to it than a publicity stunt. The CEO of Ocean Builders is a bitcoin trader who literally lives on the sea (15 miles off the coast of Thailand). It makes sense to venture in business that's also floating don't you think?

I will not look at this with seriousness because the identity of satoshi has been in the daily discussion and taking over the public discuss. This might be another way of gaining attention around the bitcoin. People like to hear the bitcoin news and more will attach themselves to it.

With the pandemic i am sure they are having a tough time doing business and they want to attract big players and they know that there are many millionaires in the bitcoin market and they want to attract those wealthy people from what i understand from this situation by changing the name of a cruise ship to Satoshi. I am sure they will be getting business as there are many who wants to support these kind of publicity for bitcoin.

the ship will be accepting bitcoin on all of the shops that are in the ship. although I get the sentiment you have about the name of the ship but this would be great publicity for bitcoin and not just the company.

Looks like a regular publicity stunt to attract the attention of a new clients.
and it is good publicity. the company CEO just used a strategy to maximize its publicity which targets people who use bitcoin/cryptocurrency and people who are not.

The crypto cruise ship is named Satoshi after Bitcoin’s (BTC) pseudonymous creator, with Elwartowski claiming the vessel will host restaurants, casinos, medical services and a water park. Satoshi will anchor in the Gulf of Panama, home to many crypto exchanges, and BTC will be accepted for all on-board purchases alongside U.S. dollars.

No worries, nothing personal and was not against you. Yes, he mentioned everything in the WO before going public. As I said already he is a bitcoin early adopter who is living up to his dream of using bitcoin for his own freedom goals.
He contributed big time here on BTT when bitcoin was considered nothing but nerd's money. Look where he stands now  Wink

What a news! this is very much going to create an adoption and thanks to Elwar, he's sure really making his own steps for bitcoin and the same time make his business matters.

Why look at that side? appreciate what the company has done. It's a cruise ship and that matters. This is a big business and a lot of money has been invested on it, this is a serious matter that you must consider and naming a cruise ship as satoshi - it's huge.

Well this is a bit better than the other concept of sea stead with a home that can't move very well on its own...

Except they are providing the small cabins for people to live in them permanently. Yes you should in theory do your eating using the ship's restaurants, it should be similar to living in a hotel or rather a building with small apartments?

The ship is 30min away from land. Not sure how well that goes for someone who needs or wants to do something not available in the ship. For certain type of lifestyle, say, a non family, single internet focused person, it could be more than adequate.

Panama does have a bit more lax laws. At least the famous Nordvpn is headquartered there for that reason; but its not like the USA hasn't bombed Panama before (last time 1989). I guess if the situation ever deteriorates they can always move the ship, assuming its engines are in working condition.

For foreigners, living in the tropics even if inside a cruise ship, might be appealing. The weather is essentially perfect all year around, sometimes it rains a bit but that's about it. It never gets cold to worry about winter or heating.

Since this ship is (now) registered to a port of Panama, for all intent and purposes, the laws of Panama apply. And I'm guessing this includes immigration law; which shouldn't be terribly problematic for people coming from wealthy countries.

Does this sound appealing to you? They do accept bitcoin, but its nor like they reject fiat. Renaming the ship "Satoshi" makes me wonder if they wanted to appeal to bitcoin holders at the last minute?

It might be even better to just buy an apartment on land, and you could choose from many other places in the Caribbean, some are even english speaking countries (or French or Dutch if you prefer). Did you know that Barbados is friendlier to Bitcoin than Panama? You can also literally purchase citizenship in Antigua & Barbuda (using Bitcoin!) for USD 200k, or invest 400k and get the citizenship plus (eventually) your money back.

I mean its not a bad idea, it might be even better if they actually moved the ship around, like an actual cruiser, around the world. Satoshi is actually just a japanese common name, but its obvious they want to attract bitcoin holders, maybe people wanting to live their gold retirement in the tropics...

It sounds very appealing to me if I were a rich man.

Well, the owner himself is a very old yet active member of this forum with a 554 UID, a long time trader and a hodler. So I wouldn't think this renaming to Satoshi and the printing of the Bitcoin logo is a last minute decision.

If he were able to integrate Bitcoin payments to his wife's women clothing boutique and his very own gadget business way back in 2011 when Bitcoin was still relatively unknown, he must have arrived at the decision to accept Bitcoin very easily in 2020 when Bitcoin has already hit the mainstream.[1]

For your other questions, I guess you may raise them directly to Elwar himself, especially if you are considering owning a cabin there.

This is a great news every publicity counts specially this big one.
I hope that they would give out some discount or any advantage for those who would pay in BTC since people would rather spend their Fiat rather than their Bitcoin.

Okay now let's change the phenomenal phrase " When Lambo?" to " When to ride SatoSHIP?"  Grin from reading the news that was out days ago, it is not confirmed yet, it is still a plan for now which will make sense in the future since cryptocurrencies are being in demand now especially for wealth people. If this cruise ship will be a floating community for crypto, all amenities will accept crypto as payment, onboarding pass is encrypted and all you need is phone to ride it then it will definitely become a new dream of all of us!
