Things I should know or do

Hi everyone I’m new here as the topic says. I actually got introduced to this forum by a friend  and ever since then, I’ve been observing the forum and aside from reading posts which I barely understand, I noticed some users have a shinny coin beneath their usernames and some thing called merit.
Why don’t I have those shinny coins and merits?
what do I need to do to have them?
Are they valuable in bitcoin or cryptocurrency?
I’m a cryptocurrency enthusiast and I was told all I needed to know of bitcoin and cryptocurrency is right here so, I hope I’m in the right place as I have a firm believe in Bitcoin as a currency and is still getting to discover more on its potentials.

No, those badges are not cryptocurrencies. Merits are awarded by fellow members when they find your post to be helpful or informative. For Merits you need to stay active and keep contributing to the forum if a senior members think your post deserves a Merit then they will award you. Merits help you to rank up.

The shinny coins are your forum rank. Currently, you are a brand new member (take a look at the ranking system in the links the previous answer posts already contain). The higher your rank is (reached by activity and received merits) the more shinny coins are displayed.

what do I need to do to have them?

By being active on the forum and by getting merits through good posts.

No, as said, they only show your forum rank. You do not get Bitcoins or any other crypto through it. The higher your rank the more opportunities you have on the board and you can participate on (partly good paying) bounty campaigns on the forum.

First tell us the reason why you join the forum,

If you were been told that joining in this forum will let you earn by joining bounty hunting then they are slight wrong. Yes, one can earn in here but if you are newbie in bounty hunting it would be difficult for you to earn. Why? there are many scam projects here to promote and just a waste of time and resources to just promote a scam project. There are successful and are really paying but if we will be talking about percentage then think of 90% scam and 10 percent projects promoted will really pay but think also the pay is not really that high.

However, if you were here to learn then you can visit the bitcoin discussion board, this section, altcoin section and other section that might interest you. Take time also to visit and see the local boards if you can check their that admin provided a local board for you then that would be better so that you can join discussion using your native language.

Another thing is that learning cryptocurrency is not as easy as 123 but once you get in it will be interesting especially if you can think that you can earn in investing taking advantage on the market price volatility especially the bitcoin. Try to check the coinmarketcap.com and see how much bitcoin price move per day, weeks, months or year. It will depend upon your decision on how you will going to take it as an advantage. But this could also be mean a risk especially to those who are new in investing bitcoin. You can learn to it later on once you will going to experience what we had been experiencing in investing in the forum and others.

I see you have a shinny coin yourself and it must seen exciting for you but, no. The coins are not really relevant. It just connotes the ranks and it increases with each highs archived in the ranks. Merits are a tool to discourage spammers and plagiarisers from abusing the forum with posts that fall within those categories and as well, reward quality original posts from other users. You can reference the pinned post guides to know more of the available ranks, merit and activity systems and know the rules of the forum to live by.
The forum is surely going to teach you a lot and as such, hopes to learn from you as well. You've taken your first step to archiving your aims with Bitcoin by creating this original post and I suggest you stay original, don't be scared to drop your views on forum activities and take a keen observation on how the forum and users tend to operate. Search can help you. You can use rank, merit and limit the search range with "Message age". You will find many topics ask same questions and I don't think you will have enough patience to read all.

You are at the right place. The forum is biggest bitcoin forum and it has boards for Alternate cryptocurrencies.

Cryptocurrency enthusiast does not need rank, merit, coin, badge if they only join the forum to read and get knowledge. If you want to rank up and get chances to earn money. Merits and rank are things you have to reach through.

I have been using my phone as my wallet before until something happen. These experience made me think that it is not the best way to do to avoid facing problems. I am not sure if this has been discussed but i will still share my experience to you.

When you install a wallet app just make sure you made a back up copy of your wallet wether it is a keystore or mnemonic phrase or a private key.
If you want the app to be installed on the computer but it doesn't have desktop version then use android emulator that can be installed in your computer like bluestacks for example.
Make sure you download the right app and not the fake app of the same name.
Avoid using your phone to save your back up private keys, mnemonic phrase or keystore file.

You've got to be a very good reader, that's the first step to being a good content creator. There are several articles across all boards that explains a lot on Bitcoin, wallets, talks of the forum, Altcoins and more. I'm not sure you might be familiar with some terms in the forum so, I'll suggest you take a particular interest in the pinned post to get you acquint with the forum.

I'm sure you most have set your mind on earnings but I'll say, keep your mind off that and remain focused on learning the basics. It would do you a lot of good to avoid disappointments.

mostly, yes I believe that statement because many newbies who register only come for how to make a lot of money by participating in campaigns, giveaways and airdrops, not for the purpose of learning and how to understand the technology that continues to be discussed in this forum.

When I was first in this forum and the purpose of creating an account was because there were many campaigns that would generate money, but that thought changed when it was important to know various kinds of new technologies and contribute to this forum discussing and exchanging ideas.

Developing an account is more important than just being an airdrop hunter, bounty hunter and giveaway hunter. High rank accounts will be appreciated more and get a better income as a bonus.

It's up to you if you use your phone as wallet like imtoken, trustwallet and other legit wallet apps. Just make sure you save a back up with your wallet as you can see in my previous post here to avoid losing your wallet if ever you use other phone. I have experienced losing my wallet when I didn't back up my wallet carefully.

This is sort of like saying; 'if you love what you do, then do it for free'. A painter or a web designer could have high passion for what they do and would likely do it (or at a point did it for free), this does not mean they have to show their passion by continually doing it for free. Same way some users on the forum are very interested in learning about the Bitcoin and other topics of interest, as well as engaging in discussions and if there is an option to earn while doing it, then why not? Signature campaigns becomes a problem if users saw it as a job, and forced themselves to reach a certain post quota, which they are not comfortable with, or to post in select boads which they are really not interested in. This for me is what seperates sig spammers from interested users.

I should add that changing your posting habit does not necessarily make a user net-negative to the forum, especially if you can maintain the quality of your discussions. Some of those users would turn down a lucrative offer if it means adversely hurting the forum, one example would be the yobit/cryptotalk campaign; they offered high pay for their campaign, but it was run in such a way to increase spam in the forum and many members passed on the offer.

P.S, To an extent lots of users here would reduce the rate at which they visit the forum if signatures are removed, but yet their current contribution is very valuable to the community.

Thats shinny coins you saw is base on the rank of the member the higher your rank the more coins you will see in your profile. Since you are just a newbie you can't see it on your profile you need to rank up first to be able see it.
Merit is given by other user`s you will only earn that if one of the high ranked members give it to you or one member  that have smerit like your post/comments its like a rewards from other users.

The Merit is also one of the requirements to rank up in this forum.

Well, you don't have merits yet  because you're still a newbie. What you need to do is to be active here and contribute to this forum with a good quality post. Someone here will surely see if your posts are merit-worthy and might give you one or even more. In this board, you'll see generous threads which aims to give newbies and lower ranks to earn merit. Try your luck and participate there. Just don't beg for it.

Are merits valuable in bitcoin or crypto? Well, I think not in general but it's valuable here in this forum. It's primary aim is to eliminate spammers and for this forum members to produce and create posts of good quality.

Try also to read the posts and responses made before me. They can surely help you answer your questions.

I have already said that the income that the forum earns with the signature campaign is just a bonus and that is not wrong in my opinion. Follow the campaign or not I will also continue to be active in this forum.
I got a lot of knowledge through this forum, not just participating in campaigns or airdrops but what can be given to this forum and contribute to it.

You didn't know my thoughts from the start till now and stop being fortune tellers.

if you say that I do not like money in this forum, I will say that I do not want to be hypocritical, everyone needs money, most importantly do not look for shortcuts to get it.

You also still use your avatar and signature as your income.

The contribution of us and other members who took part in the signature campaign is indeed very valuable. When the signature has been deleted, it will reduce the number of visits a little, but the contributions made will remain there and remain active.
