^^ probably because in India we don't have culture of respecting manual labour and people don't find dignity in becoming mason, mechanic, carpenter, plumber etc and everyone is running towards white collar jobs because of societal conditioning.

Our existing education system also promotes this.
True, and this might also be related to the caste system and the arguement like you people have to do these jobs and not us also lead them to run towards education and ended up even in worse situation.

Manual labourers are at high demand now for every kind of job and that is why some of the people are moving from top to bottom to fill in the actual labour works and whether we accept or not, they can make a decent life if they are smart enough and gain enough experience to lead a group and become a contractor for those works.

^^ It's possibly one of the reason but surely not a dominant one. Major reason would be abundance of cheap labour, which resulted in we hardly devoleped the DIY culture even among the poor ones, which is directly indirectly results in not respecting the work.

Because of this, average guy doesn't even want to change bulbs, sockets etc at their house, let alone painting their house or basic service of their vehicles.

That's very true. They be like why to do it on own when there are people doing for cheap rate.
I personally like fixing things so I do all the fixes in my home whether it be electrical work, electronic work, cleaning work or plumbing work.

Same here done almost everything. I did in my school/college days, but due to time constraints and work pressure, I am no longer able to do those jobs that need pro level of expertise. I now use Urban Clap to get everything fixed in my house. These gig apps have made Indians very lazy and dependent.

Its always great having mind like this I am also always engaged with my fixing abilities and done everything in my home by own because its give good peace in mind and also I am never feel bore with these fixing jobs because its give many new things in life.

There is no doubt now people are getting lazy because they have phones and all things are available through apps that are providing services with fair prices, but doing it by oneself is having another level of fun.

DIY is very limited in our country, and, as I said, cheap labour is the main reason for that, but when they move to another country, they will know the cost of even very basic services like changing a water filter or a socket in the electrical board. DIY is a good anti depressant, I used to do repairing works with my bike in my 20s I kind of strip it down entirely and look for what should I do next, lucikly the bike is still running after many such incidents. Which is also why I think the whole DIY thing doesn't take off here because those who go abroad become experts in the field since labour is expensive. We never really had to go through that phase. And cheap labour kills any habit of DIY since someone will come and do it for you. For few hundred rupees.

Last year my washing machine stopped draining properly and the tech wanted 1200 just to come and check. So, I opened it up, took out the filter, cleaned the pump and found a small coin which had gotten stuck. Cost: Nil. Time taken: Maybe 40 mins. Since then I have repaired regulator switches, leaking taps, fan regulators and even once replaced the geyser element.

Do I enjoy it? Not enough to continue doing it, but I cant bring myself to call someone else because it feels stupid.

When you go for brand service support, then this will be the cost, I once called Whirlpool to service a semi-automatic machine and they quoted me half the price to change the rotator switch like we rotate to select the machine but it doesn't make sense to spend much money on it. The I called a local guy and he charged 400 for it, including the part. So I assume the part must price like 150 or 200 and the remaining is the service cost, which is fair. Since that incident, I only service that machine; even changing the gear assembly costs only 700, and to be honest, semi-automatic never gives up we can simply plug and play any part, good start for DIY wannabe experts. BTW.. Apple iPhone 18 is one of the worst phones, as buyers are reporting bugs, display, crashing and freezing issues with this brand new phone. Apple did upgrade the OS to counter them, but it is still not a complete fix. This will be a big dent in the reputation of the company that reported a 17% increase in its revenue in the March quarter. This is the first time I am reading about such issues with the new version.

Earlier, only a Chinese and a Korean company faced such an issue when they launched their newer version. I hope I do not hear or read about battery bursts. In the meantime, consumers have nicknamed Apple the rotten Apple.

Of course, local guys are best when the warranty expires. Semi-automatic machines are easier to service, the parts are inexpensive and readily available. Fully automatic ones become expensive very quickly due to the presence of sensors and sealed parts. Even in small cities, finding the correct spare might be an issue, hence DIY may not always work out.

That's nice. Fortunately or unfortunately, my washing machine is fully automatic and is working since 6 years and still using it.
During covid, the machine was in off state for 2 whole years and then when I switched it on, it simply worked as usual. Lucky me.
Local workers are always better since they service for lesser price but at times when the item is expensive, its better to go with brand service only.
Local workers don't bother if the item is expensive or not and do no handle the item with care whereas brand service always handle with care.
I have experienced this and have got scratches on items several items with local workers. I hate it when they put scratches on my items which I handle with utmost care.

Arey Bhai log, do not say that brand service support is costly. My IFB fully automatic washing machine, which I bought in 2015, is still working like fine wine without any issues, all because of the brand's service support. When I bought it, I took extended service support from the brand when they came for installation. My washing machine drum started making a weird noise in 2019.

As the official support was for 2 years and my extended support was for 3 years, these guys came and changed the whole drum without any money paisa spent by me. It is still working without any issues. I did not renew the warranty at that time as the technician told me that it would work without any problems for the next 10 years.

It is not that bad and it is way better. I also felt that buying products online is far better than buying offline because of my experience of buying a new AC from Reliance Store.

It depends on the after-sales service provided by the company. I do not have a Whirlpool product to make a comment, but the other products I have, like IFB and Bosch, have good after-sales service. The only brand lacking top-tier support is Samsung for my AC. I need to call local support for cleaning and other minor maintenance.

Make sure to purchase products that have good after-sales support to avoid the hassle.

Most of the time, I visit a physical store, and I am also not satisfied with the Reliance store where I purchased my AC. Whenever I call for annual maintenance, the delay and the response are not that satisfactory, so I am forced to hire local people for the service.

Have you guys had any luck with online complaint on consumer court portal ?
Livspace scammed me for 25k as I had initially planned to get some interiors done with them.
I paid a booking amount to them which was 25k but then later changed my mind and so asked them for a refund but they denied saying its not in their policy to refund.
After trying literally all options, the only choice I had to was to submit a complaint in consumer court online but didn't really get any response.

Used this site to submit the complaint https://consumerhelpline.gov.in

India is in the headlines since yesterday evening, captain Smit who averted another 9/11 incident or at least that is how all the media, including the international ones, are dramatizing.

If anyone missed the news then here is what happened: What we know about stabbing on Flydubai flight to Israel

If anyone noticed it or not, Indians faced backlash from all over the world for being loud and basically lack civic sense mainly in tourist attractions and then this one came and sure, everyone knows that India isn't just loud but also saves the world. Smiley

P.S. Not really proud of that stupidity by fellow Indians. Lips sealed

Have you ever been to Europe? Have you ever been to the US? If yes, then you would have seen that the immigrants are more an issue than Indians travelling. Because social media shows Indians doing it does not mean Indians do not have a sense of humility and civic sense. Remember, those who are travelling abroad are from the upper middle class or rich class. If they are enjoying themselves, then what is the problem with the left ecosystem?

I have been to those continents as a tourist and their hatred against Indian is immense. It is evident that when China was growing up as a big economy at that time, the Chinese were part of the same hatred.

Btw.. Why was an Omani compromised pilot allowed to fly? As per the Abraham Accords, only Israel friendly countries pilots are allowed to fly. Although Oman has been a neutral country, it looks like another country has infiltrated the UAE ecosystem under the guise of being part of a neutral country.

After this event, the momin class will now suffer again, as these guys who have been in white-collar jobs will face discrimination in jobs.

Narrative would've completely different if copilot actually managed to crashed the plane because dead don't talk.

Headlines would've been like brahamin hindu terrorist from gujrat, saffron terror etc and many would've bring alleged nijjar assassination in Canada into it as well

Props to him. That's some brave man being stabbed, yet finding the strength to push open the door to the cabin so everyone could come aboard. Hopefully he is well soon.

The inquiry is still underway, so we'll have to wait until its conclusion to understand his motivation.

If anyone noticed it or not, Indians faced backlash from all over the world for being loud and basically lack civic sense mainly in tourist attractions
True, that image does exist, but I think a few loud tourists shouldnt define 1.4 billion people. Stories like this balance it out a little. Still, a bit of civic sense while travelling wouldnt hurt anyone Smiley

It is now clear the left and the global anti India conglomerate are now coming up with a new story that the Indian pilot and the so called Omani pilot had a dispute. Because of the dispute, they were fighting inside the cockpit. The Indian guy was responsible for the attack on him[silently being promoted], which is why the plane took a nose dive and since he could not subdue this terrorist he unlocked the cockpit door.

The next agenda being promoted was the Indian guy was hired by Mossad. He himself did all those antics.

The last of all propaganda is that Indians are stooges of Israel, and they have all been hired by Mossad to spy and report on them.

It is evident that Kanglus & Porkistanis have been active in spreading their propaganda. I won't be surprised that the copilot's origin comes from these two countries.

Btw.. This guy, whose reputation has been tarnished, wrote this as a reply on a thread where he/she should not have replied.
