Also, I'm a bit confused - does Razorfishsl have any involvement in this sale?
nope nothing at all...just some old partner who has a case of sour grapes
So I am asking does this hub have its own power regulation ? If so what does it pull 5v or 12v or both ?
I hope that the new hub uses more then the atx's 5v rail.
My understanding is that it does not have its own power regulation
Posting pictures of the inside now! Take a Look:
Looks interesting, but I'm curious about the instructions on the label - what would happen in the event that the host PC was not shut down before the hub was powered off? Say in the event of a blackout? What happens if you turn on the hub before the PC, or turn it on without it being plugged in? What happens if you just leave it plugged in and switched on without being used? Can you share the testing process for the hubs?
Turning the hub on before the PC could possibly create a power surge that MIGHT damage the usb ports on your PC and/or your motherboard, etc.
Turning it off before the PC has turned off might make Windows think the COM ports are still occupied. Then when you go to turn it on again it can't find your miners or your COM ports get maxed out because of COM port controller limitations.
On that note, here is a handy trick to clear your COM ports in Windows:
1. Click start → Run → type regedit and click OK button
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\COM Name Arbiter
3. Now on the right panel, you can see the key ComDB. Right-click it and click modify
4. In value Data section select all and delete reset to Zero (0)
5. Its 32 bytes with 8 bits in each byte. A set bit makes a port number (1...256) reserved.
6. Close Registry editor and then restart your computer. all COM ports are now Free, you may need to reinstall any winUSB drivers, usb to serial converter, drivers.
