I think telling us would defeat the purpose of this then. While the chance is low I think you should keep it to yourself and to those close to you (wife, husband etc) about where your seed is stored.

I remember one time that when I attended the Binance Meetup in Cebu City, Philippines, I wore my Ledger Nano S as a necklace, and one of the attendees spotted it. He approached me in a nice and professional way that I shouldn’t do that because I might get targeted for theft later on, and I acknowledged it. He was a HEX supporter and bullish on that until now. If the Ledger Nano S is popular in the country later on, thieves may steal it but cannot access my assets because they don’t have the seed phrases (unless if they are not after my assets but only the hardware wallet).
Sorry about your Trezor getting stolen by a thief, but next time you have to keep it in a “very safe” place that thieves would find it hard to sneak around and find it.

I am a tourist in other country and living in the nature Someone rob the house and rob everything laptop, money credit cards, phone But Only the trezor under the bed he not rob. he probably thought is some gadget for kids.
Is saved me because i use loclbitcoins and sold my btc later and still have money with no worries bitcoin = freedom
Good thing that the robber doesnt know about crypto and how to identify a hardware wallet but still you have lots valuable things inside your house which is really sad to hear but at least you do still have some coins left and that was still a good call for them to miss it out. This is one of the advantages on where someone cant really stole it from you unless if those thieves are knowledgeable and they do recognized that was a hardware wallet. Just wondering on why it was hidden under the bed which is really a common place to be seek on in case like these.

It was actually a really lucky thing that the person who was in the house had no idea about Bitcoins or about the wallets that can be used. Then again cash does not provide any us with the security that bitcoin does. After a limit amount of attempts even your wallet locks up. It is really good if the person using the cryptocurrencies is taking care of all the internet security since the only way one can find a loop hole is using wrong wallets and most of the time it's personal problem. -Even security with respect to the governmental problems, pandemic, crisis. But that aside please accept my condolences for the problems that you faced. But I do believe that wearing it as a necklace as one of you did is not the safest deal since people have been stealing good chains and stuff in the middle of the day so if someone did think it was important and had bad intentions it would be troublesome.

Really sad you got robbed, sorry man, I hope your recover everything that was taken from you anytime soon, but I don't think the trezor wallet saved you, I believe the criminal had no idea what it was or what it's been used for, if not he would have collected it during the robbery process, the trezor didn't look shiny like a gold watch that's why he left it, but i'm glad you are left with something you can start off with, stay safe out there man.

It would be very epic if the criminals knew what Trezor... Probably they would have gladly introduced you to the blowtorch lamp! And then because of the bitcoin your life would never be the same!

Thank God you had the trezor wallet which saved you from total loss which could have been more painful, It is advice able that everyone should get a safe wallet like that incase of the unknown and unprepared for. Once you have a safe wallet any of your account will be retrievable. The only thing I think about is when an account is too confidential if the person dies no one to take over the saved coin.

Good for you, man. Hopefully they get the thieves. It's rough when you go travelling and this happens. Don't let an unpleasant event ruin your taste for seeing the world. It could happen to anyone. I'm also glad to hear that hardware wallets do their jobs. Even if they would have stolen the trezor, you still have the paper wallets somewhere safe, right? It is never a bad thing to be cautious.

Luckily, the robbers don't have a single clue but I also think that those robbers are only after for an easy to sell things they may get, such a typical local robbers. Although I'm not satisfied with OP's explanation that he got rob but didn't seem to bother that he had lost something. It should be a lesson for OP in the future to take care what's more important because we don't know when these circumstances might have happen to us in the future. It should be an early warning sign to keep the most important thing safe in the hands of thieves.

OP, you need to have a backup of your seed in a safe place no robber will touch, you could write it across some pages of a bible for example. A Trezor under the mattress isn't a safe spot at all. Either keep it on you (but hidden) or hide it better. Also keep a backup of the backup seed elsewhere, in case your house burns down, you don't want to lose both the Trezor and the backup. What you did is a bit like having a giant golden necklace covered in diamonds, not really smart. And the problem with a ledger is that if someone knows what it is, they know they need the PIN, so now they won't just rob you, they will kidnap and torture you to get to your crypto !

I don't understand why every one is saying the OP is lucky BECAUSE THE ROBBER DIDN'T TAKE THE HARDWARE WALLET? Is it not the main benefit of a hardware wallet that even if it is stolen no one can actually do anything with it without the seed or private key?? what can the robber do with his Trezor without the key or seed?

He's lucky because he's implying that his only copy of his keys was store on the hardware wallet. The wallet would be secure for perpetuity, but the coins would still be lost to him. To prevent loss, the keys should be either written down on paper or digital sources - obviously it would make sense to obfuscate the key. Perhaps putting 1/2 of the key in one room in one book and the other half in another room in another book. Thieves steal pretty much any small electronic device because those are easy to resell and have value. The hardware wallet allows easy access with easy security, but it doesn't prevent the keys from being lost.

Sorry for your loss. It sucks, especially if you had hard cash in your place. Bitcoin saved you, because the robber was ignorant of that tiny device. If he knew, he would take it with pleasure. That's why I'm against hardware wallets. Bitcoin gives us the chance to save our money on a piece(s) of paper, which doesn't draw attention and/or memorizing the seed. It's not hard, you just have to find the perfect seed. Keep calm and carry on what can the robber do with his Trezor without the key or seed? Isn't the seed inside the hardware?

That was really an awful experience for you and that surely a traumatic one losing your things inside your house because of robbery. Good thing that the robbers have not taken away your Trezor hardware wallet so that you have some stored assets with you and have been able to use such to regain money from loss. Trezor have saved you from being financially unstable after the robbery because of your stored Bitcoin but Trezor does not significantly saved you from robbery for the reason that maybe they doesn't know what is the essence of the object they have found knowing it was easy to find under the bed. You were somehow just lucky they are not aware of that because if they do, then you maybe have nothing right now. Better be safe the next time so you won't experience the same kind of experience the next time around.

Yes the hardware wallets use a seed based of the inherent base index of the device itself, like a hardware token. The purpose of a good hardware wallet is that you can keep it on your desktop plugged into your computer and not worry about it being stolen and being accessed to have your wallet drained. Even if the thief has your device, he doesn't have your biometrics or your pin (most devices reset after 3 failed attempts). This allows you to properly store copies of you keys in remote areas of your house or even outside your country (depending on paranoia level) for long term retrieval in case your house burns down or a thief steals the device.

I think you are just lucky because the thief lacks knowledge of hardware wallets, and next time don't keep your Trezor under the bed. Find a place to hide the Trezor you have safe, I suggest saving it in a safe-deposit box with a password or a deposit box at the bank. But this is a lesson for all of us, it turns out that Bitcoin is not easily stolen, unlike other valuable objects. Therefore, until now I have kept most of my wealth in Bitcoin.

I'm sorry that you suffered the theft while sightseeing with your family. Although it must have been an unpleasant experience, you were very lucky that the thief did not take your Trezor. Certainly its design looks like a toy, your Bitcoin was safe this time. After this experience you need to keep your devices more secure. Thank you for sharing your experience because you alert us to be more cautious.

what can the robber do with his Trezor without the key or seed? Steal his coins. All Trezor devices have an unfixable hardware vulnerability which allows an attacker with physical access to the device to extract the seed phrase in a matter of minutes. It cannot be patched. The only way to mitigate the attack is to use a long and complex passphrase, so when the attacker does gain access to the seed phrase, they still have to bruteforce the passphrase before being able to steal the coins. See here for more information: https://donjon.ledger.com/Unfixable-Key-Extraction-Attack-on-TrezorAnd see here for details on how to use a passphrase, which every Trezor owner should be doing: https://wiki.trezor.io/Passphrase

Yeah so if the OP isn't up to snuff on security, which clearly seems to be the case (Trezor under the mattress...) then he probably doesn't use a passphrase either.
BTW that's one thing I prefer with the ledger nano S, it really looks like a USB key, so you can keep it in a box with tons of other USB keys, it's very inconspicuous.

Trezor didn't save you, the criminal's lack of knowledge about Bitcoin did.
Indeed they were looking for money and didn't know about the new form of money found online that can be store in a kid-toy looking flashdrive lmao And some robbers could have just taken a hardware wallet without knowing what it is, to figure out later, or maybe they would have though that it's some sort of USB drive with valuable data? You need to store your hardware wallet in secure place, relying on criminals not knowing what to do with it is just security by obscurity, and this security is extremely unreliable.
They probably thought it was a flashdrive with files in it but to be honest a hardwallet under the bed isn't a good idea for me, you're right burglars could have took it without knowing anything about it, that kinda save you from those bad people and also you're saved coz you used a hardwallet to secure some of your funds. Still blessed I guess.
