Hi.

Can't we use avatars/pictures in our profile? I see many people using but I can't find where can I set one for myself!

Here's how if you will become a Full Member soon.
On your bitcointalk profile, on the left side there is Modify Profile, and under that, click the "Forum Profile Information".
Then you can see on the first avatar with a label that "Avatar: Go here", it will navigate you to another tab for the part which you will upload for the avatar (image)

I'm not sure why you are asking that because you have been here since 2014, but the post above has provided an answer to your question and hopefully, you will reach full member rank to be able to wear an avatar soon.

Looks like I'm not yet authorized to have avatars but thank you for letting me know where that is done. I'll know now where to go when I can use an avatar.

Yes, I'm here since 2014 but by my post count, you can see haven't been much active, so no wonder I don't know many things about this forum. A forum of this magnitude is not fully explored in a few days or weeks or probably even months.

But thank you all for letting me be now more informed.

I was reading about the ranks/activity/etc in the post mentioned above and I see that only Full members can use avatars. Well, to become a Full member I need >= 120 Activity. I have 128 Activity, so I'm a Full member, yet, I can't see the option to upload an avatar

At the very top of that thread, you can see that there is a new requirement called merit. Read more at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0. Maybe it's time to read about the forum in details before you go further.

They add more requirements to increase your rank other than activity you need to also have 100 merit which is half away to your earn merit right now.

As of now your rank still member you need to earn enough merit to rank up I don't know how long it takes for you it's depend on the quality of discussion you make here .we'll good luck to your journey.

There is a glitch that grand-father members still have avatars with ranks from newbie to member. Sometimes you will see it and if taking the fact the most old-generation users in early years abandoned the forum, the rest ones are mostly from hacked or bought accounts.

Back in the days, everyone was able to wear avatar but it has been limited long ago.

Rule was changed on April 01, 2015, 04:08:50 AM. See details at Avatars re-enabled.

Due to overuse of animated avatars in 2019, on February 26, 2019, theymos disabled rights to wear animated avatars but there are grandfathers have such if they did not take it off after that day. When they take it off, they will never be able to wear it again. Stop animated images

Well, as the other members have already said, to be able to use avatar you must be a Full Member.
To reach this rank you need to have at least 100 merits and >=120 activity
