Hello all!

Thank you for taking the time to read this, Ill try to be short. I have a mining rig I built with 8 gb of ram, 24 gb of virtual memory allocated (hard drive) and TWO gtx 970 4gb graphics cards (8gb total of gpu ram). and an i5 4 core processor. my display is using my motherboards integrated graphics card. I assumed this would be enough to mine even the crappiest of altcoins but it doesnt work.

I cant mine zcash, I cant mine ravencoin and I cant mine eth (not suprised by eth)

I have tried 20 youtube video tutorials setting up a simple mining operation but NOTHING works. I always get "cannot write dag file" from the eth miner or "memory dump" from the raven miner

What the heck am I doing wrong? I am very confused and thought this would be simple. I've already wasted a lot of money on this and would love some help.

Thank you Smiley

I asked the mods to move this to alt coin section

I will try to answer this for you in a minute or 2.

4gb cards suck  they won't do eth.

as for raven you are using 970's

not 1070's
not 2070's
not 3070's

so I used all of them and got them to work with raven

I use mostly simple mining  dot net

the newest os from them supports

NVIDIA 1050 / 1060 / 1070 / 1080 / P102 / P104 / P106 / 1650 / 1660 / 2060 / 2070 / 2080 / 3060 / 3070 / 3080 / 3090

all newer cards but he has all his old os for downloading

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1541084.0  ask him if he has an os that will let your cards mine raven

philipma1957 explained to you, and I'm sorry but you card is not bad, but old enough to not have support nowadays (970s are excelent cards, even today for gaming)

But I'll try to help you, go here: https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator/nvidia-gtx-970

And you can find how much can you earn with your cards

Go to https://www.nicehash.com/download-center and dowload Nicehash Miner, run the program, disable antivirus, and let the program run the benchmark, and you can see which algos you can mine with your 970s
Even if you don't like Nicehash, it's a good tool to find which algos your cards supports

Just trying to guess, your cards probably can mine with Neoscrypt algo...

If you have any question we are here

The problem isn't even the Video RAM, it's the graphic card architecture, sorry mate new miners of today don't support gtx970 anymore because they are less profitable, the only coin you can mine is XZC, get CCMiner for the coin it works for GTX970

Since GTX970 is now older many new updated mining software have removed supports for old nvidia and AMD cards, sorry mate the only option you have left is to use Nicehash or Minergate software to mine those coins, hopefully this auto miners will still have something left that you can mine, goodluck

There is no new software upgrades on miners for gtx970 cards anymore, you will definitely get some kind of error message when trying to run miners using this cards, try nicehash miner it will automatically scan for the perfect algorithm you can mine with gtx970, that is if any is available

You build your first mining rig with sets of old graphic cards, I hope those gtx970 aren't new because it's a total waste of money, you should look into disposing them off if really you are into mining right now and buy better graphic cards, even RX570 and 580 beats gtx970 in mining, they are more cheaper and more profitable

Wrong

MiniZ miner has kernel for the gtx970, lolminer also have kernels for the gtx 970. You can mine equihash_192,7 for example, beam also works.

You should have done some research on the most profitable gpu before buying gtx970, I'm wondering how much you got one, buying AMD RX580 or even gtx1650 which is better than gtx970 is still very Profitable for mining today and it's far cheaper, you can get used of this new cards on ebay

Thank you all for responding, this is going to sound like a sob story but I really appreciate you.

My car got stolen yesterday so I am already down thousands of dollars so to bounce from an extreme act of evil to your extremely generous responses and trying to help me out was really nice.

You ALL made me smile and I just thought I would share my appreciation for you all before I start responding.

@philipma1957
I tried messaging him but he doesnt accept messages from "newbies" so I am stuck. Oh well... thanks!

@rdluffy you are awesome, I did that and it worked fine. I agree with yall I am going to get rid of the 970s and get some used 1070's and mine eth.

@Gunday_07/Bitbtc8/Phoenix_PROG thanks for the comment Smiley

@VDraci one was free and I bought the other for 100$. i will probably return the one I bought.

@sxemini your right. Windows 10, I tried phoenixminer, voskae, claymore and much more.

@Samayuki i should have done more research, you are right.

Thank you all! I am sure I will have more questions as I cycle out these old graphics cards. Is there a specifc card that is the most bang for the buck? I don't want to have to buy the newest graphics cards, but not the crappiest.

So I have another question yall!

Nicehash support isnt very good and they wont let me access any of the tokens I have mined.

Is there another service that allows you to mine using older cards that auto detect and use the gtx 970 4gb?

Thanks!

Just figure out what exactly nicehash is mining for you.. that way you can mine it "yourself" with the algo nicehash think is the best.

I am new to this, so I dug around for some info and according to nice hash using my gtx 970:
Gminercuda9.0+

Do I just need to google "Gminercuda9.0+" and get that to work with my old cards while I search for new cards? I am not exactly sure what you mean "mine it yourself" because I tried that and failed a bunch.

Thank you.

Nicehash transfers the mined coins direct into Bitcoin.
So when you mine using ETH algorithm you will get Bitcoins instead.
For a beginner this is best anyway, but takes long to get a reasonable amount of Bitcoin.

gtx970 will mine beam no problem, but if you are paying electricity then it is not profitable, assuming you are using win10.
if you have no idea go with nicehash.
1, go nicehash and sign up, you just need email address.
2,download nicehash miner.
3,run benchmark
4,you will see alots of algorith may not work, but some of them will work, just dont forget turn of firewall and add exeption to windows defender.
5,also download msi afterburner set power limit to cards otherwise you will end up high power usage.

I need help again.

I now have 2 ftx 1060's ready to go. According to nicehash, nbminer daggerhasimoto
is the best algorithm to go with.

however there is no easy guide to figuring out how to install daggerhashimoto.

I have tried 10 different guides and every single one has some caviet somewhere that will not work. Whether its an hour in and "all of a sudden turns out it needs to be a wired connection" or some other bullshit. Something ALWAYS pops up to make sure I cannot mine eth with my cards.

Why is it so hard for somone to just make the algorithm easy to find/download and run?

Please help me, I am so bored of watching 20 minute youtube videos only for the caviet to be revealed at the end that it will not work.

You don't "install" daggerhashimoto, this the name of the algo

You have to provide more and clear information to let us help you

Which version of 1060 do you have? There's 3Gb and 6Gb

Simples answer: Just install Nicehash Miner: https://www.nicehash.com/download-center
Follow the steps and the app will install the miners and plugins for you

or once again you will have fucked yourself.

BTW I answer newbies not sure why you were told I don't.

I gave you a merit.  If you continue to post you will become a junior member.

Look for plugins on nicehash.

and load the phoenix plug in.

Then it should benchmark eth.  If you have a 6gb card.

Regarding your GTX 970. That GPU is one of the best gaming GPUs but also one of the worse mining GPUs. Even back in 2013-2014 during the Litecoin mining boom, you couldn't mine LTC efficiently with it.

Then when ETH was launched, it only worked for a short while and then there was some memory error past a certain DAG if I recall. Right now nothing really profitable to mine with the 970.

Since there is a shortage of GPUs for gamers, and GTX 970 is the gamers dream GPU. You should just sell it on Facebook marketplace or Craiglist. I guarantee you it will sell in less than a week. So sell it, buy something like an RX 470 8GB and you will be all set.
