Fine, some threads are extremely lengthy, and nobody is going to read through the 555147++ posts on
wall observer, but an average thread will normally have a rather more restrained set of posts, often digestible in under 5 minutes, or 3 if you skim read (tops).
It’s pretty frequent to see replies that denote having barely read the OP, and that have clearly not picked-up the scent provided by the answers already existing within the thread itself, which often give context to the OP’s content, either narrowing down the arguments, or swaying the conversation slightly to a different ground, before being reset to the beginning by a quick uncontextualized post.
In a brief moment of bewilderment, I let my grey matter fantasize briefly with the idea of these posts being rejected by the miners of the thread, refusing to add them to the "postchain"…
