Not that the Forum is universally safe. There are scammers here and they will do anything to get your funds.

For the love of whatever you believe in though, do not take your communication off forum. I get it this can be annoying to try and PM here if your account is fresh with the time limits in between PM's. The work around is hammering out all the details in the thread by posting back and forth, and saving any personal information you don't want to share for PM.

Telegram and Discord are insanely welcoming to scammers and make it so F'n easy for them to pretend to be somebody else. There legitimately is no rush to get the trade done immediately, I get it the price is pumping right now, but don't let the FOMO drive you into letting your guard down.

The biggest advice I can give you is our reputations on Bitcointalk, only go that far. Not everyone actually uses all these platforms popping up, and scammers can easily name squat on them as they know this forum is a honey pot.

Please keep your funds safe this Bull Run, and take a second to breathe and make sure everything is on the up and up. Beyond that use respected, tried and tested forum escrows on forum as well. Legit users don't scoff at this.

This can't be stressed enough I feel like I've said these same things countless times so I wanted to say it again here at the source of the most likely to get scammed.

I am not immune.

Just to add. Do not put any other contact details directly in your posts. Telegram ID, Email, Discord contact. Why you might ask. Anyone who reads it can then contact you pretending to be anyone they want. reserve this information for PM's

Correct, because scam aren't moderated on this forum too.
My advice, if you really want to sell or exchange your cryptocurrency to fiat or paypal, just go to trustworthy exchange sites, there are many of them.

I feel you OP. I also have an old client here in Bitcointalk forum that reached me recently on Telegram to work for some tasks with pay, of course. To double check his/her identity if the account is still the owner the bitcointalk account, I asked him/her to send me a personal message in this forum, just to prove and viola, our transaction went well.
Additional, it's really difficult these days to trust some random people on the internet, especially if Bitcoin is involved, some people are greedy to snatch your Bitcoins.

Not that the Forum is universally safe. There are scammers here and they will do anything to get your funds.

This forum community, like every other online community, is only a reflection of the world we live in. As in real life, there will always be those who strive to make a personal profit at the expense of others.
It is important to remain vigilant, not trust anyone and always question other people's motives.

My advice, if you really want to sell or exchange your cryptocurrency to fiat or paypal, just go to trustworthy exchange sites, there are many of them.

It is not impossible to find honest people on this forum, some have a dozen successful transactions, and I am sure they will not scam anyone. Also, all these sites you are talking about have very high fees, while on the forum you can go without any fees and make a transaction in the fairest possible way without anyone taking 20% or more for a fee.

For the love of whatever you believe in though, do not take your communication off forum.

New generations want modern ways of communication, which is quite logical - but they do not understand the dangers that come with it. Completely strangers offering great earning opportunities, handsome girls to whom BTC is stuck on an exchange and only need 0.02 BTC to pay a fee or scammers pretending to be famous forum members are just some of the easy ways to be fooled. These are no longer isolated cases, but I would dare to say that these are organized criminal groups for which such things have become the main source of income.

I think the best way is if someone sent you a message, which is out of nowhere asking for payment or money, the best way is to block them, we can't stop people from sending us a personal message but from my experience, if someone pops up in my telegram Facebook, Gmail, and I don't know him personally if it's about money or investment, its automatic block, the best way is ignoring because if you entertain them they will think you are interested and its the start of the scam, we can't stop them, but we can prevent them making us a victim, presence if mind blocked them and nothing will happen,

Right, they are actually do not get tired in scamming especially if they become successful for it wi become their motivation once they get your funds successfully transferred.

However, I am a little bit worried on their side how they can hide their identity on withdrawing stolen crypto. We know most exchange do require KYC when transacting or involving huge money. Aren't they getting caught about it? Well, the authority had no controlled over cryptocurrency so scammers are free to do on things they like.

Just to add. Do not put any other contact details directly in your posts. Telegram ID, Email, Discord contact. Why you might ask. Anyone who reads it can then contact you pretending to be anyone they want. reserve this information for PM's
Even if someone gives, they must do their dealings throughout the forum pm system. That would prevent anyone pretending to be others. I don't directly trade with anyone who reaches my telegram. This should be practised all the time.

That's why there are services such as mixers and coinjoin, and that's one way people can hide their identities and ensure that transactions are untraceable, I'm sure quite a lot of scammers use such services especially when the funds stolen is a large sum that could cause them to be tracked down.
Well, the authority had no controlled over cryptocurrency so scammers are free to do on things they like.
That's somewhat true/not true, cryptocurrecy is decentralized and responsibility rests on it's users, but in cases of large theft, we've heard of governments requesting users information from exchanges to be able to track down the criminals, but mind you that it won't happen for everyday random theft, so we should protect our funds to the best of our ability.

Scammers are smarter than that. They do not contact random people but choose their targets carefully and wait for the right time to execute their plan.
Take a look at this scam accusation topic:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5303500.0
The scammer impersonated a reputable member then contacted the victim who shared his tg username in a previous post.
This is wh you should never share more information than needed and to make sure you are talking to the right person.

My advice, if you really want to sell or exchange your cryptocurrency to fiat or paypal, just go to trustworthy exchange sites, there are many of them.
See if I can I do all my trades through the forum. I just exercise caution, one of the reasons I advocate for appropriate uses of feedback. I hve a few places I go to if I can't get waht i want don on forum, but try to limit that activity as much as possible. When I first got into crypto my I used my countries largest exchange, they were as legit as legit can be, until they weren't and 80% of what hey were supposed to be holding was gone.

It is definitely a reasonable alternative, but I would also be very cautious anytime you start using one of these exchanges

Exactly it's convenient and if they use it to socialize they likely feel as comfortable as I do navigating the forum. The problem lies when they begin to use it for anything involving money as they have a false sense of security and then it's too late. It always stats off so nice and sweet, with a bro, or a dear, or my friend, all the niceties the world, to get your money.

It is a shame but there are a lot of places in the world where this is seemingly acceptable behavior, and is most definitely a business for some.

~snip~
That's actually the topic that inspired me to come issue the warning.

For the love of whatever you believe in though, do not take your communication off forum. I get it this can be annoying to try and PM here if your account is fresh with the time limits in between PM's. The work around is hammering out all the details in the thread by posting back and forth, and saving any personal information you don't want to share for PM.
This is often not possible for many new users wanting to conduct trades.

IMO, much better advice is to confirm off-forum contact details with the person you want to communicate with personally before trusting anything someone says in an off-forum communication channel. Make the person tell you their contact information. Don't accept someone on an off-forum channel telling you they are xx member without verification.
