Yesterday, I created a topic on the Currency exchange board. The Currency Exchange rules state:
Quote from: grue
1. Altcoin (LTC, NMC, FTC, etc.) trades belong in Marketplace (Altcoins). However, if the trade involves bitcoin (ie. Buying Bitcoins and cows), it can stay.
I've seen many topics selling or buying altcoins for Bitcoin on that board. I'm selling Forkcoin dust for Bitcoin on the Lightning Network:
I will only accept Bitcoin LN payments for this exchange.

My topic was moved to Marketplace (Altcoins). So either a Mod made a mistake, or Bitcoin LN is considered an altcoin on Bitcointalk. I'd like to know which scenario is correct.

That should be a mistake made by a moderator.
We have some topics about lightning network in bitcoin-related boards.

Electrum Lightning Network walkthrough
The Lightning Network FAQ
Lightning Network -- Basics (documents, data pages, files, plots)
Some exchanges accepting Lightning Network

Edit: I reported your post and asked moderators to move that. Let's see what will happen.

Edit 2: The report was marked as bad.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago on a DOGE-BTC exchange I wanted to do; talking to the mod responsible for it ended up being a very unproductive conversation because it was just how he interpreted the rule. The only thing we can do here is just agree to disagree, and there's nothing else that can be done.

TBH I also see it fits in altcoin board.
I'm saying this because you want to sell altcoins. Fair enough, you want btc for them but the idea of the thread is the sale of some alts.
Just my 2 cents...

Let's play ping pong between boards Cheesy

because it was just how he interpreted the rule.
I don't think the rule (and that is assuming a sticky thread means something) can be interpreted any other way than "the trade involves bitcoin".

TBH I also see it fits in altcoin board.
I'm saying this because you want to sell altcoins. Fair enough, you want btc for them but the idea of the thread is the sale of some alts.
So if I'd change the title to "Wanting to buy: Bitcoin LN for Forkcoin dust" it would be okay? Or maybe even to: "Buy Forkcoin dust", similar to Buy Investment Gold, Have 180% paypal or WTS BTC for Neteller.

The only thing we can do here is just agree to disagree, and there's nothing else that can be done.
I can agree to that Smiley

So either a Mod made a mistake, or Bitcoin LN is considered an altcoin on Bitcointalk.
The issue (from the mods PoV) could be less about LN being directly related to Bitcoin, and more about the altcoin involved in the trade.

I'm saying this because you want to sell altcoins. Fair enough, you want btc for them but the idea of the thread is the sale of some alts.
I see your point, but the rule includes a part about the thread belonging there if it involves Bitcoin. Also, the summary rule for that board is; Buying/selling bitcoins using other currencies. Except, other currencies is limited to only fiat, a trade involving Bitcoin and an altcoin is fitting there.

It's very borderline. This is of course my personal opinion...
WTB btc with fiat or alts - bitcoin marketplace
WTB btc with alts = selling alts - altcoin marketplace

Maybe I see it differently but this makes the most sense to me

Just selling altcoins for BTC, fiat or any other coin doesn't belong in Currency Exchange. The quoted rule is referring to threads that offer exchanges between fiat and BTC in addition to other exchanges (e.g. BTC to alts, alts to fiat, etc.).

I'm going to underline this, to see if I'm the only one confused here. I don't really see a difference, to be honest. Maybe the wording? If I say I'm selling for bitcoin it will be moved, but if I say I want to buy bitcoin with the alt it won't?

I maybe be a bit dense today, but I don't understand what you are trying to say (sorry). If the currency exchange board is not meant for just exchanging coin A for coin B (being A or B Bitcoin), what is it for?

On top of that, moving serious threads that may get a chance to be seen in the bitcoin marketplace board are doomed the moment they go down to altcoin marketplace, but that is only a personal appreciation

The Currency Exchange board is meant for selling and buying BTC for fiat currency. If within your Currency Exchange thread you offer to sell or buy alts for BTC / fiat / other alts in addition to offering to buy and / or sell BTC for fiat, that's allowed 1. However, if you're only offering to buy / and or sell alts for BTC / fiat / other alts, that thread belongs in Marketplace (Altcoins).

1 If a user is trying to circumvent the restrictions by mostly making a thread about exchanging alts while only adding a token mention of trades between BTC and fiat, a moderator may opt to move the thread to Marketplace (Altcoins).

Well, that does make a little more sense, but is a few continents away from pinned thread... or at least to the interpretation of it.

I don't know if a revision of the current definition of the board would make sense, it sure would help some serious trades happen, but maybe the spam generated by the change would be just too much

Thanks for taking the time to explain it tho

Interesting, that wasn't clear to me at all! I can imagine that was used in 2011, long before there were decent exchanges, but nowadays I consider all those just scam attempts. I've seen so many topics like "selling 1000 Bitcoin per day" in broken English. It's always "for a client". I always consider those scammers who are very happy to earn $100, and the responses they get are from similar scammers who also try to make a few bucks. Or, if you do meet in person, you'll find a $5 wrench.

Like this:
I am a physical cash buyer and will do transactions of over 250k EUR.
I have a client that wants to sell 500 BTC asap!

Are there still people who really use the Currency exchange board to buy or sell Bitcoin for fiat?

I have personally used it that way, BUT and a big BUT, in the local spanish board. It'd make no sense that I posted outside of it in this case, but I assume anyone could try create a post [WTB BTC for cash in IOWA], for example

Yes I am one of them. Probably do a trade every few months.

There are several high trusted, long term, members that use it.

There are also several members who unless you spend a lot of time there you will never know about because they spend 90%+ of their time trading.
They have decent trust and are here to do what they do. Yeah, you have to search a bit for them and read into their feedback a bit but they do exist.
