We have thousand of crypto currency in the market so iwill not agree of 10% In my opinion  it's only  1-3% of them will survive for long term. True , if you follow many tokens from before more of them is now dead or almost no volume created in exchange.  when that happens he will most likely be deleted in the exchange or being delisted, since it will not add any more volume and the exchange doesn't have any other option  than to removed it there.  and that was the time  it will start to lose its value and record in CMC.


Maybe you just didn't notice but a lot has happened like that and a lot of coins have just disappeared from circulation when you start reviewing old project.

A lot of projects duying many years didn`t even reaching coinmarketcap. There was a rule you must be listed on a two exchanges to be listed on coinmarketcap. So many projects invested all money in development of a project and didn`t ever noted that they must also pay for a listing on even a shit exchanges. Thanks to Uniswap it is now changed, every token with also a good technology could be listed for free. And now coinmarketcap also accepting these coins, listed just on Uniswap.

IMO every token with real-life usage and a real team behind will not only survive but thrive in 2021 due to the enormous volume and prices. If you but your money on the next DeFi copycat, you may not be so happy about the result, but if you choose a real project, you may see good earnings.

Survived, others die, but with the current bull run expect that there will be projects popping like mushrooms, similar to 2017, so I don't think that 10% will survived in this current state of the market.

The DEFI projects are very highly volatile coins such as YFI. whose price is near to the bitcoin price.
So, long term investment is very risky. The 10% of the total coins means that the only top market capitalizaton coins are good for long term investment for a newbie in crypto market.
But if you are a professional trader than you can also earn money through small projects.
The small coins are risky because the market manipulators can easily manipulate the price of small coins and after they take profit they start dumping and as a result these coins lose their value.

"Don't invest money in shit coins" that's the message and anyone who fails to get it, will learn it in one way or the other. Talking about how many altcoins that will survive this year, actually, no one can tell even assuming it, is a herculean task because with the growth of Bitcoin and most altcoins currently, many projects will come up because since the market is still favourable, there are still some investors who will be willing to invest. Therefore with more projects coming up, it sure means more will either exit scam, abandoned or become dead on arrival, so it might likely be more than 10%. The majority of tokens that are listed on coinmarketcap are already dead, and many of them are not being traded at major exchanges, it is a possibility that more than 85-90% of the tokens currently listed will no longer be a viable option for investment. The reason that this tokens die is because most of them are just a quick cash grabs from the developers, if the hype continues, there will be more tokens created and I hope that some of the most sincere developers and loyal investors get a successful token out into the market. I recommend to look at this graph of the Bitcoin dominance. The marked period was during a major drop in BTC price of more than 30% in the start of 2017. Right there the Bitcoin dominance started to drop like a rock and altcoins had their golden era.



Notice how the Bitcoin dominance right now is reaching the same level as late 2016/early 2017, and another drop of 30+% will happen to the price of Bitcoin and Altcoin dominance will skyrocket again.

I think you're spot on with that assessment.  The ICO boom was unjustified in my opinion and left a trail of dead and dying tokens in its wake, tokens that never really had a useful purpose to begin with.  The boom was sustained by a bunch of scammers and lies, lies, lies; so I don't think there is going to be much interest at all in tokens in 2021.

Altcoins are a different beast altogether.  There are a lot of good ones on the market, although I haven't heard of any new and good ones in quite a while.  It's probable that the best altcoins have already been created, though I wouldn't bet the ranch on that statement.  Which ones are going to survive?  Most of them I'd say.  But that doesn't mean that most of them are going to be worth much, just that they're going to exist.  Should prove to be an interesting year.

Many people assumed ethereum chain tokens will be gone with eth fee going up, but that didn't happen, they still continue to dominate the market anyway, and binance chain is going awesome as well which is not that cheap neither honestly. So, I think the fee is a big problem but not big enough to completely destroy things, it is still something that will disturb the market, or maybe not let it go high enough, but it is still something that doesn't stop it for sure.

I believe this is something that bothers only a few amount of investors, others are still getting into it, they realize its high and they want it lower but they do not stop because of it, I don't know if there is a name for being bothered by something but still going on anyway even when bothered, if there is a name, the fee situation is like that. They are all not active coins dude. You must take 80% from the total coins that registered on CMC as the active coins. I do agree with your statment but the only party that can prevent it to happen is the code developers of platform. They can put strict requirement to issue the asset on their platforms but this will give a very big impact just like there will be less people use it.

It is not an easy talent to have, it is definitely one of the hard ones, it takes time to actually be like that. I think investing into projects early on is one of the most risky things you could do in the crypto world, but if you are right and you get it right you are going to end up with some huge amazing return. However doing that is not easy, because you will have to see and learn about how a project could be good or not, why it could be good and what makes it good, after you learn these things with countless projects and see which ones happen to go up and which ones happen to go down, you will be capable of starting.

This requires you to research hundreds of projects without investing, and checking on them constantly to see what they are doing and how they are doing. If you can wait that long and work that hard without profiting at all, you will learn the best of them.

Majority lost their money on ICO it's because they believe to see more greater changes from it in future and they hold out of greed for thinking that they can earn more money for investing on them. We have thousands of altcoins, most of them are "utility" coin / token. I think, As long as they meet the needs of the user, create a benefit or utility with quality and liquidity. During the boom, which can last even the entire year 2021, not many coins will disappear. Some of these coins will takes a lot of time before they pump in the market. There project will take years before they will develop and a lot of improvements are needed in order for them to be recognize in the market. As we can see, most of 2017/2018 tokens have gone and I think it will be the same if the same mistakes that the project team will do. 10% ?  I think it's too big.  I am more optimistic only 1-2% because not all coins are able to survive in the crypto market and remember 95% of crypto coins are coins that have no development.  only a few crypto coins still survive today.  plus new coins created may not necessarily be able to compete in the crypto market in the long term

You are right. There are many altcoins. They appear every day especially during hype around crypto. I am not in favour of investing in new coins. I can participate in airdrop, but not just buy such coins that have nothing but a good marketing campaign. It is more about how many of them will finish in positive while others in negative. When you look at year to date of many coins you will see that they are in big big profit, even if there is a huge drop in the middle, the increase at the start of the year made it possible for it to be super high even after that drop. Like for example, bitcoin was around late 20's and low 30's at the start and it is much higher than that even though it has managed to drop from 64k dollars.

This is why I honestly believe that there is a good chance some of the coins may end up with still a profit but a negative all around because it is still dropping. So, we need to check the average how much coins increased, what bitcoin did, and then compare it with others. If the crypto world is 50% up and a coin is only 5% up that is not good neither. Those type of things calculated with data and can be used as proof for the result of this question.

Because if you say surviving, it means even if they have very low trading volume, it can be considered alive. So I think, it is better to check valuable projects rather than surviving coins. As you said there will be more to come so we can't say how many will last, but we believe that the top cryptos will still be among the ones that will survive for me, that's obvious, unless there's going to be a big problem which will destroy them completely.
