The fact is that bitcoin has been breaking All Time High almost every week now and it has been long since a correction has been occurred.
A correction is definitely needed at this point to stabilize the gains. So I do expect bitcoin to fall back a little in early 2021.
But that doesn't mean that bitcoin will dump like the 2018 dump because this bull run is more mature than the previous one.
A correction might occur but it will be recovered quickly and won't last long before the next ATH occurs.

I wouldn't depend on history alone with Bitcoin. OP has stated that "History has never favored Bitcoin in January", but when has it historically favor Bitcoin? Based on what we've seen this year and in 2017 we could say that December used to be a good month, right?
Take a look at December 2014- January 2015 - strong downtrend in both months.
Bitcoin was also rising all throughout January of 2020 and holding steady in December 2019.
As you see there are exception to the rule.

I guess the question on everyone's mind is how serious will it be! Maybe the correction won't be as serious as previous years, and will alts be seriously affected as well, btc has been moving on a high speed and is expected to correct at some point but no one knows when it will happen, is it when it touches 40k or before then

If we are in a bubble then it is just the start, we haven't reach the top yet. Of course every bubble is going to be burst, but then again, we are now in the levels that we haven't seen before obviously so we really don't know how far will this massive run will go, it could be a 6 year bubble or 3 year bubble so it's hard to predict now as we are just starting and it could end at $100k or even more.

Bitcoin is not in another bubble, it still in the early phase of the bull run if we calculate the potential that it might achieve in 2021, probably $100k by the end of the year.
so, it won't get burst but a correction, even 30%-35% will bring it down significantly but the price still holds above $21k.
If bitcoin manages to reach $100k, then the major correction may occur at that level, the history may repeat itself, the price will plummet for 2 years and come back after the next halving in 2024.

Quite frankly, no one in this forum really know what's gonna happen next! The current bull run is quite a surprise for all of us as we have never expected to see 34,000 price level. So no one is sure about the direction it would take in future. But yes, we can certainly expect a correction in near future as per the normal dynamics of the market. But this bull run is very different than what happened in 2017!

I am expecting a correction, but not expecting the history to repeat itself. Even if the history repeats itself, I will start buying aggressively considering the opportunity!

The market changes happening with time isn't a bubble. The market is gaining good resistance, so this time the market will probably stand high above $20000. Once the market served to be affordable for all levels of people, now things have changed a lot. Crypto has been getting served as an asset of the rich to get more rich.

This bubble is indeed one of the biggest one and the larger it gets, the scarier it will be when it burst down either slowly or instantly. As for now, many people are expecting that it's near where bitcoin will reach $40k even though it's just the start of the year. It actually feel good to think of it like that but let us not forget about the worst case scenario. Regardless of what may happen, let us first savor the moment, let us all enjoy it before it ends once again. Who knows? Maybe in the middle of the year or at the end of the year bitcoin will reach $100k, that would be the biggest and it will surely make noise all over the world.

I was just hearing the interview of Winklevoss brothers and they tried to explain that current bull run is a bit different from the last one, mostly because this is mostly catalized by institutional investors who are much slower and predictable. They suggest, even if it bursts, it would could stick around 20K. This again would be 50% less if the price reach 40K, but would still be on higher side of average price for bitcoin.

@Wale1234, theoretical history repeat itself and bullish trend is to happen in the market after the success of Bitcoin block halving and in the previous bullish market January market usually go side ways but no anymore ever since the pandemic showcase Bitcoin potential to the institution which causes more traffic in the market more than previous market. Therefore, the current pump is not bubble.

Do you mean dip?, not now mate becasue in 2017 there wasn't institutional buyers in this community but what we have seen recently is that, Bitcoin is a safe haven for investors. Believe me or leave it; this bubbles will keep up till the end of 2021 but there will be more corrections during this process but not what we saw back in 2017. Well, we know that there will be bearish moments in 2022 but not 2021.

The institutions seeing Bitcoin as safe haven doesnt mean the market wont experience blood bath/correction like the year 2017 market and i think we should be expecting something even worse.

So what's the news if I may ask that you're recommending we sell at the news. Isn't what you just said a rumour and with rumours aren't we advice to buy into the market lol?. Nevertheless selling your bitcoin now would be a very costly mistakes as there are still more potential in the bitcoin price of spiking further.

This will be my first time of paying very close attention to the price of bitcoin in January so can't be certain about your claims although form history, the next year after the halving years always comes out as a profitable year for bitcoin. In 2017 there was a bull run that starter from 2016 (the last two halving year).

This is 2021 and we're already seeing bitcoin doing some impressive numbers which just confirm what I have just said above. This growth will continue further as the days goes by although that doesn't mean there won't be corrections on the way.

Well, you can assume that some of the growth we have right now is due to the potential of Bitcoin pretty much being known to the world, and well honestly, seeing the graph you can't not assume that what we're experiencing is a bubble. Well, even if it was, it's just basically the start. You can probably expect 1-2 months more of Bullish trend since most would ride upon this wave I'd assume. I'd expect countless investors to get taken in by FOMO by the end and by then you can assume that a possible huge correction would happen.

Not that I'm saying it isn't possible for the current growth to be not a bubble. I'd like to assume that it is not anyway. There were always dips here and there but hardly enough to call a correction, so really, if it just keeps on going, then a huge correction may be quite visible in the near future.

If this was a bubble, then it would be burst already. Yesterday the prices dipped by almost $5,000 within an hour or so. But they recovered almost at the same pace. This means that there is a lot of demand for Bitcoin, especially from the institutions. And many of them are in BTC for the long term, and this reduces the dip of extended phases of correction. I expect the rally to continue for another 3 months minimum.

I would say that in general it is seeming like there is a lot more institutional demand for Bitcoin than in previous trends, so I'm not sure previous models can be used to determine when or IF a bubble is going to happen.

We already see bitcoin price touch $34k this month, and I think that will not stop for this month because bitcoin will have a chance to break another high price. I think $34k is not the highest price or new ATH for after this halving moment, and I think the bitcoin price can be at $40k-$50k for the new ATH this year or next year. And we still have more time to see when the new ATH of bitcoin price will be reached, so make sure you have many bitcoin to sell at the highest price.

In my opinion a big correction is coming, after this correction Bitcoin will never be less than 20K again.

There will be a correction, that's for sure. The question is how big will that be? Will it be a normal correction because it raises so big in a short time or will there be a big dump and will be reach 15~20k again?

To be frank, the growth so far was massive and thus from all indications, there will be a price correction which can be seen to be healthy for the market while also giving room for more people to buy, but the tough thing there is, since the crypto space is unpredictable, no one knows when it will happen or how big it will be. However, I do not think the correction would be so big that it will bring Bitcoin down like before because the growth witnessed was somehow piloted by adoption and institutional investors, thus this correction being anticipated might be a different one.
