I remember hearing about bitcoin back in the early days when it started rising to a few $, my uncle would mention it from time to time whilst killing heads online on Delta Force Black Hawk Down (Good old days). Unfortunately, I was only about 13 at the time and I guess I could say I wasn't mature enough to see it's potential. All through my teenage years and still to this day nearing the age of 30, I have an overwhelming urge to make money, so now that I'm taking cryptocurrency very seriously, It comes with such a low blow that I didn't have the trigger in me to grow some curiosity back in those days. My favourite way of making money, since about the age of 11, has been to invest real $ into MMORPG currencies with the aim of selling it for more, or using the game items to flip profits and selling the profits for around the original investment rate (I enjoyed this especially on RuneScape, where I could run several accounts to have a larger buy limit and scout for items with a sufficient price gap, or Long items that look reasonable judging by their marketplace charts). I never really made a lot, and I'm practically broke to this day, though making a profit with virtual material remains dominant in my life.
After all the ever-growing hype with bitcoin, I decided to start holding a little, $50-$100 through 2019, I did this on Coinbase, but then I stumbled upon the word ''Coinbase Pro'' in September 2020, assuming this was some sort of account upgrade with a fee, I wasn't expecting much. But upon reaching the website, I was greeted by that big lovely chart and I just knew, this is where I'm meant to be. It felt like I had taken a huge upgrade. I didn't have a clue what was going on, in regards to the vibrant red and green numbers flickering all over the place, but it was art to my eyes and I was very eager to delve deeper, and so I did. I am still learning and I don't shy away from the fact that I have a heck of a lot to learn. So far, I moved to Binance because of the fee's, I've learnt how to place a stop-loss and it's purpose, Limit orders, OCO orders, Hedging orders, Futures with leverage, Shorting.. Since September, I've made hundreds of trades, bringing my balance down to about $80 from $450, yeah it can hurt, especially after losing my job due to depression, but I'm okay with that because knowledge has more value than money, at least to me, anyway.. every good AND bad trade is providing me with more knowledge. I know, hundreds of trades, big no no, I should take my time and trade when the chart is ready, but I'm sure many are overwhelmed during their first weeks of taking in the wonderful world of crypto trading, resulting in some losses. It is what it is. Now, I just want to take a step back and learn. I want to learn two primary things in 2021, 1. To grasp a more fluent feel for the market; when to enter and exit my trades and potentially more on indicators such as Fibonacci retracement, triangles, etc, though sometimes I hold doubt with indicators and feel I need to find my own way of indicating, the thought of which is very daunting but somehow feels achievable. 2. To delve into Programming and learn a coding language, one that would allow me to truly see what's behind the curtains with cryptocurrencies, because I feel with that kind of knowledge I could improve my judgements and also, maybe, provide something unique for crypto, as I also have a passion for (I never know how to put this) creating formulas to make x work, coming from a bit of restricted but productive experience in visual game scripting.

Some question's I'd love to ask any of you early bitcoiners:

1.What were your emotions at the time of buying bitcoin?
2.To those that hodl, what were your emotions during massive gains? Did you become nervous and cash out? or did you feel sheer confidence to hodl? Did you have a plan?
3. Did any of you find an old bit of bitcoin you didn't know you had, or that you had forgotten about?

And some questions for the general community:

1. Do you consider yourself a successful trader? If so, why?
2. Did you undergo professional courses or education for the sakes of gaining trading knowledge? Or did you learn everything you know searching online?
3. What would you do if you woke up one day and saw your bitcoin balance has risen 10,000%? (Personally, I've misread a scratch card once. To think you're getting £100k every year for the next 10 years takes a bit of gravity off your shoulders, for about 6 seconds lol)

Looking forwards to some replies..

I really enjoyed reading your story @Iwant2brich, I hope you become whatever you dream of. Hopefully, you have goals and you'll achieve them if you wake up every day with passion. Although, you've misunderstood something very important. Bitcoin is much more than just trading.

If you want to become a successful trader, then it's respected, but bitcoin isn't a stock. During your stay here, you'll learn more things about bitcoin that will clear up your way of thinking. Based on your chosen username, you may not care at all about it and you're here just for the money, but keep in mind that behind that code, there is something innovative that is waiting for you to understand it. Just because you said you're interested on programming.

The history of bitcoin starts back in 2008, when someone using the pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto" published the whitepaper. I leave everything else on your own research.

1.What were your emotions at the time of buying bitcoin?
I'm yet to make an actual purchase as yet, at this point I accumulate from earnings both on and off the forum, it could still be classified as a purchase as I exchange service for payment and I always thought it to be a good investment and did not consider flipping it for any other currency.

2.To those that hodl, what were your emotions during massive gains? Did you become nervous and cash out? or did you feel sheer confidence to hodl? Did you have a plan?
Having a plan is the most important factor, it's easy to panic during a spike or a dip and this can result in emotional reactions and lead to losses. Have an investment plan and a profit target.

1. Do you consider yourself a successful trader? If so, why?
2. Did you undergo professional courses or education for the sakes of gaining trading knowledge? Or did you learn everything you know searching online?
I've played around online trading courses, but I would not consider myself to be a trader as I mostly just read up and have not taken a deliberate step into it as yet.

3. What would you do if you woke up one day and saw your bitcoin balance has risen 10,000%?
Such an increase is very improbable to happen overnight, so I do not really have a reaction for that as it's unlikely to happen.

I wish you luck on your trading journey and you're right to seek knowledge first before aiming for profits

Welcome @Iwant2brich, you seem to be most interested in trading, so I'll like to direct you to the trading discussion section where you can lurk more often and discuss as well as exchange signals with other traders. Having said that, I would also like to address your username, if that's exactly what you want to be via Bitcoin, you'll have to obliterate that mindset, or else you'll prolly grow frustrated and would likely get scammed sooner rather than later, don't get me wrong, you can get rich via Bitcoin, but it's not a get rich quick/fast scheme, you'll need efforts, skills, offer a service of some sorts etc, don't be moved by the misconception that you must get rich via Bitcoin, that's wrong.
2.To those that hodl, what were your emotions during massive gains? Did you become nervous and cash out? or did you feel sheer confidence to hodl? Did you have a plan?
You could have a plan and yet still be moved to sell if there is a sudden high appreciation, it takes quite a lot of guts to control your emotions in times like that, the thing is only the hodler knows the best time to sell part or all of their stash, and when you do that, never regret it, no matter what happens with the price afterwards.

Haha, I knew the username would draw a little attention, but rest assured, that's a very long-term dream and I'm very aware that, whilst the possibility to be rich is very there, I'll most likely fail many more times. In all honesty, being at a level where I can most days earn the equivalent to the national minimum would be my more realistic short term goal, and still, that could be some years, even. Bitcoin; how it works, what it is, it's history etc.. and trading; charts, strategies, etc.. are gradually becoming a passion to me. I'm in this for the long run. I was telling my girlfriend back in September ''This is my life now..'' and repeated so many times, ha ha!

It's fun to fantasize about success.. It's even more fun to brainstorm about how to make it work.

I love learning about crypto, (primarily bitcoin because that's where it began) trading and how the market moves and right now that is all I seek to do.

I'll let my riches wait till I'm ready.  Wink

Welcome to bitcointalk!
Thanks for taking your time to read it and I'm glad you enjoyed doing so.

Thanks for pointing that out. I think I'm passively realizing there is way more to it, as you stated. This is why I aspire to learn the code behind it all.
I want to be able to see what ''Satoshi Nakamoto'' has actually created. I've already came across so many interesting posts, such as searches for the original, un-changed bitcoin whitepaper from 2008. I've been scouting for his post's and comment's on this forum too, as I know he created bitcointalk.org, but disappeared December 13, 2010. Very interesting to say the least.

Awesome response! What kind of services do you offer on the forum to accumulate your BTC?
Also, very good point in regards to the 10,000% increase question, I should of thought that one through a little more! Thanks for pointing it out, ha ha!

Appreciate the support there.. I'm a bit of a chump when it comes to forums. Grin I'll be sure to give that section some attention.

I recall a similar event to that of your advice ''never regret it, no matter what happens with the price afterwards''.. I gained from a trade and still, right after I took my profits, I wanted to get right back in because it surpassed my expectations and kept going. Instead, I just closed the tab. I learnt to start doing this, because with that ''hook-you-back-in'' emotional bite, and a rookie error with setting my leverage, is pretty much how I lost most of my invested funds. Trial and error is expected, though, to a complete beginner.

Nevertheless, I thank you for taking your time to read and share your advice.

1.What were your emotions at the time of buying bitcoin?
I seriously took the advantage of buying bitcoin with my own money during the dip when its price is ranging from 5,000 USD to 7,000 USD, that's the time when the virus starts spreading globally and the economy is on the brink of collapse I presume. I bought the dip without having any second thought and I was so happy that I bought at cheaper price.

But now, even though the price is continuously increasing, it is quite sad to see a decrease amount of sats when you are buying or doing DCA.

2.To those that hodl, what were your emotions during massive gains? Did you become nervous and cash out? or did you feel sheer confidence to hodl? Did you have a plan?
Hmm? Increase in blood pressure I must say especially that bitcoin breaks another ATH at the time of writing this plus your hands and feet keeps getting cold as fvck. But still, I am into long term hold so keeping your emotions aside is crucial even if its too difficult to handle.

1. Do you consider yourself a successful trader? If so, why?
Nope, I am still finishing the trading course that I have found on youtube. I know it is too late to learn how to trade because you miss a lot of bullish trend that is currently happening and I feel like being a helpless kid who can't even take the advantage of larger profits.

2. Did you undergo professional courses or education for the sakes of gaining trading knowledge? Or did you learn everything you know searching online?
Practically speaking though, if you are just starting to learn on how to trade, it would be best to start consuming the free educational resources first and then eventually go for the paid ones if you somewhat feel that you need to scale up your skills. That's just for me.

Just want to add additional resources which can help you understand the bitcoin under the hood.

Sorry I'm a bit fresh so using these quotes accurately is a bit confused, so I'm replying to the whole messages.
Anyway, awesome information.. You got in at a good time, which is great. I hope you continue to see more profits and don't dwell on decreased amount of sats when you are buying or doing DCA in comparison to then and now. You got in early, still. You did good. I personally feel confident in the market for a huge list of reasons. We may see corrections, but I think we're at a point where there's no going back. Too many people know exactly what happened with the crash down to 3.3kish from the previous ath at around 20k, I think that in itself feels enough to prevent us crashing hard anytime soon. There's many more factors such as the growing interest with younger generations, ease of access to crypto and things such as the global fiat economy and the big companies stocking up.. Just my thought, I'm still very new to the scene but if I were in your shoes, I'd keep doing what I can to harvest as much BTC as possible Grin . Also, I'd like to suggest that it is never to late to trade, because with bitcoins rise, you'll see a rise in other coins creating opportunity if you get in-depth with your whole trading.. Additionally, from my own experience out of the crypto market, volume rises with price, that being said, I personally think there will always be opportunity with Bitcoin too.

And yes, from losing my job in august 2020, I've had all the time I could possibly need. Since September, I sh$t you not, about 90% of my time awake, every single day, is being dedicated to bitcoin and trading. Whether I'm sat looking at a chart, watching videos, reading post's, heck if I'm sat sucking my Capri-sun I'm still thinking about all this.. It's only recently I found this forum from doing some history on Satoshi himself. It feels like I'm late to the game but I know it's just beginning. 12 years is nuttin'!

Thanks for your reply  Cool

p.s could I ask what youtube course you're watching?

+question 1. I can't say I am a successful trader and I can't say I failed at trading, because I haven't traded, but at the turn of this year 2021 I have picked interest in and am going on courses and this is where people fail in trading they don't learn.

+question 2. Like I said in question 1 I am under going a course online not professional but the bit and pieces basis of trading, a professional course would come after I have had some real trading.

Hey, welcome to the community. Thanks for sharing your story. Hang around the forum and I am sure you will learn a lot more about Bitcoin.

To answer your questions.

1.What were your emotions at the time of buying bitcoin?

I was happy to find something I was able to reliably transact with I guess. Decentralized nature of the currency was cherry on top.

2.To those that hodl, what were your emotions during massive gains? Did you become nervous and cash out? or did you feel sheer confidence to hodl? Did you have a plan?

It feels incredible during massive gains periods followed by depressive downturns in market Cheesy I have cashed out a fair bit when I was in high school / college and had to support myself and family. Not planning on selling anymore for the foreseeable future now that I have a lucrative career.

3. Did any of you find an old bit of bitcoin you didn't know you had, or that you had forgotten about?

Alts yes, BTC no.

1. Do you consider yourself a successful trader? If so, why?

I try to stay off trading for the most part. Hodl is the strategy that works best for me.

Hey! I really appreciate your response and advice to my current situation and to how I feel about the current market condition. Perhaps the reason why I feel being left out is because I still don't have a bigger picture on how crypto can affect the economy and the lives of other people or maybe because I am still an inexperienced college student who does not seen the hardships that the real world has to offer.

.

I'm not sure if I classify as an early Bitcoiner, but I've been around since 2013 and that is quite a lot of time honestly. So I'll answer your question as a pretty early Bitcoiner:

1. The first time I've seen it, I honestly thought it'd skyrocket to infinity.. literally. I never thought Bitcoin's price had a ceiling and its amazing historical growth has proven a lot of things so many times. I thought bull markets would never end and BTC will never have bad days. Hell, how wrong was I!

2. I always held BTC during pumps and sold during crashes. Basically the stupidest thing one could make. Hodling has always given me profit, so this is nowadays my main strategy.

3. I personally found a few hundred bucks here and there, but nothing impressive or life-changing.. although I'm quite sure there are a few fractions of BTC still sitting on some of my early accounts. A lot of people mistake early Bitcoiners for whales, without taking into account that for someone back in 2010, a 100% increase meant something close to impossible to happen. Most early adopters sold early, only very very few still haven't sold.
