Because I am seeing more and more accounts that got banned because of plagiarism I would please like the opinion/guidance of a moderator or from those that have experience in this matter.

So an example, can this post be accused for plagiarism?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2479859.msg56032431#msg56032431

IF yes
What will be a proper way of rewriting it?

In particular I am referring in this paragraph which is a copy/paste thing from the link below
Quote
DogeToken (DGT) is a said to be a digital currency that is Decentralized and allows peer-to-peer which enhances individuals to send money online easily without the help of a third party. The soul aim of this token is to help individuals perform daily transactions easily and without the stress of loosing your money to a third party. Doge token will help individuals have a transaction that is stress-free, fast, secured and trustless.

I would either wrap the text in the [quote]<text>[/quote] tags or use actual quotation marks to indicate where I am quoting the article and where I am writing my own reply.

Rest would be fine. This is just in general, though. I don't think anyone is really going to call you out for "plagiarism" in that thread unless they've got a broom shoved all the way out their mouth. The italics are sometimes indicators of a quotation and it's clear what the context of the post is.

This is not the case of plagiarism because source link is posted below and you used italic text style that is often times used instead of quoting.
I would not report this and I see no issue with your post, but if you want to be sure just add quotes.

I think the definition below is clear:

Quote
Plagiarism: If you copy some text from somewhere, then you should have a good reason for it, and you must link to the source. Doing otherwise is plagiarism. Changing a few words around doesn't matter. If we find that you plagiarized, then you absolutely will be permanently banned, even if we find it years after you did it

quote from @theymos Source ---> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5036308.msg46088206#msg46088206

Then you must have a convincing reason, and there must be a link to the source that you cited from.

Putting it inside <quote> would be nice and easier to notice, but as long as the moral rights of those who write it are denied, I don't think you will be banned.

This is not plagiarism. A link to the source is sufficient.

A reply from a staff is enough that your post isn't plagiarism. You have worked on a project and wrote about them from their website. It's clear that you hadn't indicated that's your content and you already added to the source link. Added source link itself enough to avoid plagiarism case, but there you did a job from them as well.

Anyway, since you got an answer from moderators, hope you are satisfied now. So it's better to lock this thread from the lower left.

plagurism isnt just copying something from elsewhere, without linking source..
because even theymos has mentioned the bitcoin whitepaper wording without linking source.

its actually where you treat it as your own work for your own gains at a cost of duping people into trusting your credibility via the things you copy.

EG if you promoting a dogecoin scheme. pretending you created dogecoin. but your not actually the creator. then this can leave some readers falsly trusting your experience/credibility.

there is nothing wrong with you talking about any topic or mentioning the bitcoin white paper for instance. but if you start saying you wrote the bitcoin whitepaper. then there is a problem.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

I would either wrap the text in the [quote]<text>[/quote] tags or use actual quotation marks to indicate where I am quoting the article and where I am writing my own reply.

If you stick to the rules and guidelines, your post is fine with this kind of source citation.
To avoid all misunderstandings and never be confronted with accusations, I recommend to mark the text as a quote by .
This in combination with the link to the source provides 100% clarity and avoids unnecessary trouble.

Thank you all for your answers

The thing is that I am not "afraid" of a user that may report the above post (or a post with similar content) for plagiarism, because the meaning of it has common sense.
What I am worry about are the bots that scan the posts.

I have seen a lot of accounts in my regional section of the forum that have been banned without knowing the exact reasons in which they were real people, with only one account, and some of them were also helping the community

Thanks again and happy new year Smiley!

I seriously doubt that bots are reporting posts that have source link shared, no matter how you formatted the text. As long as you share the link you are safe, even if you copied an entire text and then just shared reference link at the bottom. Whether that's a good posting style and should rules be changed is topic for another discussion.

I have seen a lot of accounts in my regional section of the forum that have been banned without knowing the exact reasons in which they were real people, with only one account, and some of them were also helping the community
If they were helpful and good members of the community prior the ban, it makes sense to make appeal topic here in meta. If they can prove that their activity on the forum was overall positive, there is a chance to lift the ban. Just wanna warn you that chances of that happening are extremely low, but it is worth a shot in some cases. As theymos explained:

If you think that a ban should be ended, make your case in a new topic from a "good for the forum as a whole" perspective.

To avoid plagiarism:

1. always cite the sources of the things you've mentioned

2. Put the statements in a quotation mark (""), signifying that this statement do comes from different source.

3. Paraphrase that statement - use this if you are making your own paragraph consisting of the ideas that you get from the web.

4. Put references at the bottom part of your comment if you do paraphrasing.

And if by any means, that you are banned with unknown reasons, you can just put an appeal to this forum  Cheesy

What I am worry about are the bots that scan the posts.

If you are thinking about the "plagiabot", it was checking for plagiarism within Bitcointalk. If you copy/paste an old post from Bitcointalk, you could be reported by the bot, but not in the case that you specify in OP.
And anyway, the final decision is up to the mod that handles the report.
