Be Aware of Timestamp Attack

Earlier today, there was severe timestamp attacker, likely to be a two device combo attacker using a CPU miner as decoy and another FPGA (or big  CPU miner rented from cloud).  Checkout discord "mining" board and we had a lots of conversation and observation on this issue.

Dev team is also considering issuing an emergency v1.8.x hard fork upgrade to address this issue.

diff = 1.3 k.  I think timestamp attacker left. It is no longer controling the chain now.  So this issue is no longer that much of emergency in security.  The timestamp attacker is likely to return next time when diff is higher in two steps, first decoy with CPU timestamp to lure the chain into shallow reset, then this 1 hour hold to push the low diff and get more profit.

Those high diff period was not really big of security risk. But this low diff early today was indeed a risk on security.   I think I am going to propose this 3x cheetah diff rise anyway to improve security and decrease this timestamp risk.    This timestamp hurt average CPU miners at high diff, and hurt big ASIC miners during a reset.  It may not hurt USB ASIC that much, but I think  USB ASIC was no match against this attacker when the diff was below 100.

At diff = 85 the attack was strong. But at 1.3k diff it is gone. So it really dislike high diff.  It is likely a FPGA or a big cloud CPU miner coupled with a CPU miner acting as decoy.

Hardfork Proposal to Address Timestamp Attack.
New Version: v0.8.9.0_randomSpike-v1.8.x , short hand “v1.8.x”.

of wallets. After hard fork event, old version of wallet will not be able to sync to cheetahcoin

On block height 383578, a cheetah block with difficulty = 12 was mined, successfully hard forked into new chain on v0.8.9.0-randomSpike-v1.8.x version ( or v1.8.x version ) of core software.  On this block or after, old wallet version on v1.7.x will no longer be synced to latest block.

The CHTA blockchain just hard forked this morning hours ago. This means that those miners who are still on older version of wallet (v1.7.x or older) will mine dead chains as new chain can only be mined on version v1.8.x wallet (Full Version Name: v0.8.9.0-randomSpike-v1.8.x ) .

I love learning mining development, but how is your coin better than Dogecoin?

Cheetahcoin (CHTA) is complementary to Dogecoin. We have lots of doge lovers in our community of investors/miners.  

Doge is mainly a meme on dog,  Cheetahcoin is a meme on cat. That is different on meme already.  Cat lovers are huge across globe, there is huge potential on meme. It is still early.

Beyond meme, the main enhancement is the at home experience on mining and low transactions fees.  Dogecoin mining at home is tough, mostly unprofitable unless you have free electricity or expensive ASIC rigs. You can mine doge with CPUs on PC Mac or android phones, but the end result is zero coins.  CHTA is different story, you can mine with android phone profitably,  you can get full blocks mined almost everyday thanks to tech forked from Nengcoin.  Many are dual mining NENG/CHTA on same phone or PC.  In fact, one might just sell your CHTA reward at southxchange and trade to doge or BTC from mining rewards to get more profits if you like.  

USB ASIC mining with Gekkoscience NewPac is wonderful too for Cheetahcoin.  The device is cheap and draw small electricity. You can mine this device for bitcoin, but mostly unprofitable and almost no coins of BTC.  In stead,  you can mine CHTA on this device very profitable, particularly on reset days, like a mining game of decentralized airdrop on reset, you can mine millions of CHTA on reset (if properly setup on solo mining mode with full node, not at pool).   Gaming like profitable experience mining Cheetahcoin with USB ASIC is another attraction that do not exist on dogecoin (nor on BTC).
