Hi guys

I've been here a while now, lets say four months and i sadly i barely contribute not because i haven't been visiting the forum or reading a few posts but, i'm having trouble understanding most of the things i read. Bitcoin hasn't been my thing but i want to make it my thing and its proving extremely difficult. Especially in a forum such as this where the rules are really strict and your not allowed to re-register after a previous ban.

I'm just scared of making mistakes but if i don't participate, i'm likely to go nowhere in my journey here. Please help, i need to kill this phobia that stands guard to my progress. Pointing me to the right direction would be a way to start and i hope i follow anyway as that's a major challenge.

First of all, read the rules of the forum, there is one common mistakes newbies do make, spamming and plagiarizing, do not spam nor plagiarize, even if it is a line you copied from 1000 lines from a site, you should include the link for not to get banned. Keeping that in mind, you will not be banned and read other rules and do not go against any of it.

I was like you last year, thinking this forum is hard and I can not make it to anywhere, but I started and I kept going, it was surprising I posted topics and I got merit for it, I continue to have passion for Bitcoin and learn about it the more, it later became a time I made posts and got merited which is the evidence of quality posts on this forum.

All you need to do is to take it easy, read about bitcoin, cryptocurrencies  and related boards on this forum, you can contribute in some boards that you like, and later focus more on bitcoin boards, if you read about bitcoin and other crypto very well online, there would be some mistakes though after you post some topics, and you will be corrected, if merits sources and ranked members with smerits see you posts having food quality enough, you will be given merits and you will be fine.

I will advise you to take it slow, first read about:

1. Bitcoin mining
2. Crypto exchanges
3. Bitcoin and crypto wallets
4. Crypto trading
5. Crypto scams
6. Initial coin offering
7. Initial exchange offering
8. DeFi
9. Bitcoin transaction and input consolidation.
10. Replace by fee and child pay for parent transactions

These are some common posts on this forum, after you read all these online, you will have good information about them, and the more you will be acquainted to this forum, then you can try to read mastering bitcoin. Just take things slow and easy, you will get better on this forum if you want.

On this forum, you will need to be hard working, because your posts need to have quality before you can rank up.

I'd say that it's better to have read more than you post.

If you run into trouble with comprehension, quoting the specific parts and asking for elaboration in the thread would be your simplest solution as opposed to attempting to read more on your own, even though it is an alternative. If you've already read the rules, then you're doing much better than most Newbies on the site (unfortunately). In reality, though the rules may seem harsh, it's pretty difficult to get banned for anything except for plagiarism and spam: two things that are extremely easy to avoid through your actions.

You learn by doing something often, reading posts is a good place to start and what every member should do, whether newbie or higher ranked as there's always new knowledge to learn about. It's also totally alright for most of what you read not to make much sense, it's a new space and you'll need time to understand the basics of it. Here's a reply I made recently to another member asking about getting into Bitcoin, it could contain some information that will be useful to you - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5307733.msg56047673#msg56047673

Especially in a forum such as this where the rules are really strict and your not allowed to re-register after a previous ban.
I actually consider this forum to be very lenient and allow members lots of freedom to express themselves. If you're an honest member, you'll likely not break most of the forum rules, as plagiarism is frowned upon in different settings on and offline, and spamming is usually financially motivated.
I'll advice you find a topic or board that really interests you and learn more about it, that could be your gateway into the other parts of Bitcoin.

Take it slow. What is essential is that you have that drive to learn about cryptocurrencies so you could share your experience and knowledge about the said subject.

Rules are created in order to preserve the integrity of the forum. They are being strictly implemented as this is the biggest crypto-forum currently. Lots of scammers nowadays who take advantage of this situation and lots of newbies have fallen and have become a victim from this.

You are not forced to participate. As I previously mentioned, take it slow and start from there. Fear nothing if you have no plans of doing anything that is against the forum rules. In the event that you are in an unfair situation which caused you to be ban, lots of helpful moderators and users can help you with that situation.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes, every of us were newbies in past without any knowledge. When I was newbie here like you, I had similar fears. I tried to avoid serious topics because I was afraid that if I will say something wrong, old members will mock me. But it never happened. Eventually, I gained more knowledge and started posting more serious stuff. Though, even after 5 or 6 years here, I wouldn't say that my knowledge is advanced and for me it's still difficult to understand some technical things. I agree with thought above that you should read a lot if you want to get knowledge and don't focus on posting only.
And if you struggling to understand something, simply ask questions here. Our community is is helpful and friendly and you'll get answers to your questions.

There's nothing to fear, honestly. This is a community, not an exam. If you don't understand anything, either reply (but try to stay on-topic) or create a thread in the right board asking us more about the stuff you don't get.

We've all made mistakes and some are punishable, but it's more about the common sense: don't go off-topic, don't spam and don't scam. Participate in discussions and you'll learn a ton of stuff over time.

Why need to afraid of? Forum had a very simple rule and that is being relevant and don't spam any u relevant post since this is one of the ground to get ban, just make yourself a good contributor or maybe just stay on the topic whenever you want to create a post so that you will became a worthy member here. Also just enjoy the forum and make yourself comfortable upon using it.

You can effectively overcome the fear of the possible outcome of committing mistakes by believing in your capabilities to comply and follow the forum rules. To be able to grow, learn, and enhance your skills, you should learn to challenge yourself in a specific activity. Open yourself to new experiences and explore the opportunity given to you to participate in any discussion and share your personal insights. Regardless, the rules are implemented for a safe environment for the community. May I ask if you feel distraught in any specific rules? If it is regarding plagiarism, then you can follow some guides shared in the forum to understand how you can prevent it.

avoid breaking the rules especially plagiarism that would most likely get you to ban other than that you'll be fine.  you don't really have to count how much you have contributed to the forum and if you are still having trouble understanding about bitcoin don't be afraid of asking questions. the forum was created for the purpose of discussing and sharing information about bitcoin. there are also books you can read that give you or help you understand bitcoin a little better.

-snip
I remember you posted a list of books that are recommended for beginners why not share it here. OP might be interested in reading some of it. I would have shared your list here but forgot what thread you posted it in.

there is nothing wrong with being active in the forum, what is wrong is that if you are posting nonstop its a spam posting, at the same time your post is not related or off-topic with a post, or even copying a post from google then paste and post in the forum it might cause for permanent ban, the best thing is that, post what's on your mind but reply or post that is related, and your good.

Hello BevNation, welcome to the forum :-)

We have all been in your position, I remember joining first and thinking
"where do I start?" The forum is vast and fast moving. I remember noting
that there was soooo much to learn, and there is but you dont have to
know it all in 4 months but you do really need to visit at least a few times

This is what always in my mind, be friendly to every newbie who will come and join this forum.  (those who will ask help)
If we're an old member of the forum, we shouldn't show them in an arrogant manner, help them instead.  For example, just like @yogg helping newbie with his USDT was accidentally sent into the other exchange., I saw this thread today and I'm impressed by this user.

So don't be fear, we have free speech here as long as relevant to the forum and following rules.  There are a lot of friendly users here and most especially those high rank and reputed forum members.

Just explore reading in every section you want and ready to learn about cryptos and then, join the discussion and engage informative topics.

I guess you are not alone. Probably many newbies are here also having some feelings like yours. Something like a fear of having mistake on what his gonna post or is his post correct or what?

If it's wrong in the details someone or anyone here can simply correct it. And don't mind if sometime they are harsh on their approach maybe that's how some users here when correcting newbies which on my perception should not be the case. Being hospitality is always better than being grumpy. Newbies are termed like that for a reason and we should understand them if they often got mistakes. But not too much of course. Too much spoon feed too is also not good either.

Now a days, you can hardly earn the basics about bitcoin by reading the threads and its discussions because forum is not much active as before so we can only see more topics which related to the price over the technology and its adoption.

First of all if you want to understand about bitcoin, you have to understand how the blockchain works or else you never get it right about the bitcoin.

Don't be afraid to post or ask anything here, you are not going to be banned for asking anything just don't violate the rules mainly don't copy an article or someone's post in your post which will get you an immediate perma ban.

I'm just scared of making mistakes but if i don't participate, i'm likely to go nowhere in my journey here. Please help, i need to kill this phobia that stands guard to my progress. Pointing me to the right direction would be a way to start and i hope i follow anyway as that's a major challenge.

What do you mean by journey? If it's a code for "joining a signature campaign", then it's not as good as it sounds. In the most realistic scenario, you'll have to spend from half a year to a year of grinding merits to have some slight chance to joining a $60/week campaign at best.

If by "journey" you mean learning about Bitcoin, than you can perfectly do so as a lurker without an account.

I suggest that you take the path of an investor or a trader, you could read a lot of information here in the forum that could help you in cryptocurrency or bitcoin.

With your experience, you could share them here in the forum to also help other members at the point you will be able to make a lot more quality post here in the forum and at the same time your also earning with trading and your investment.

Also, you could easily post or ask here in the forum if there is something that you do not understand or you encounter some issues related to cryptocurrency.

To understand most of the topics on this forum you should be involved in every discussion with a discussion of topics that you understand. if you don't understand it you can learn it first. This forum has many topics that you can study. If you keep reading and studying it you will understand. The rules that this forum has will not be a problem when you are a good member and have a contribution to this forum. It's not as easy as previous users, but beginners are currently challenged to continue to be active and provide the latest information and exchange ideas about topics to be discussed. Don't feel the problems in this forum as a phobia, just grasping this is a new lesson that you must master.
