Ordered a couple of this AORUS RTX 3080 GAMING BOX external cards for a very good price. Now I realized that they only work trough TB3, will there be a chance running them for mining without gutting them out. I don't have any Thunderbolt 3 devices around to connect them to Sad .

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Unless you can get the gpu removed, If you want to use this for mining you will still need to connect it to a supported thunder bolt 3 device, its better to return and swap for a gpu or sell it online yourself, you should have done fee research before ordering the egpu

A couple? You buy more than one egpu?  Shocked what's your intention in the first place? To play video game on pc or to mine? This is a wrong purchase if your purpose was to use the egpu to mine since you have no TB supported laptop or desktop, it's not too late you can still sell or make deal with the seller

For the price of around 1k EUR a piece wasn't too much thinking given. Have few days to think how to proceed, getting a TB3 or just gut them out (which is possible).

Works absolutely flawless and cool Smiley. Very happy about it. Needed some TLC as the fans connector was not connected ............ . Included fans are too loud, need to be replaced. A bit disappointed by myself, as I have canceled the second one, when I wasn't sure what will come.

A egpu RTX3080 that did 100+ MHS mining Ethereum and the Temp isn't over 35°C ? That's almost impossible to believe, this shows that egpu have powerful cooling system, wow that's really awesome, where did you get those for 1000 EUR?

And best of all junction temps stay at 92c solid, believe putting a fan to the side might get those even lower. Card has no visible backplate. Last moment deal, in a local supplier.

You got it wrong, that Temp was screenshot after launching the miner so the temp will be at minimum, 5 minutes of continues mining will increase the Temp, you really believe that a RTX3080 can mine at 35°C ? That's not possible, those cards are hot

What? 92C is way too high for the graphic card pal, I suggest you go out and buy a fan with usb wired that can be powered with usb ports only and channel the air on the gpu, that's freaking too hot and could kill your gpu in short time

Now I'm even more confused, you are getting 39C after four hours of mining? That's very good and you don't need any extra cooling system for the gpu, the safest high temperature for Nvidia graphics card is 75C, mine never goes over 69C and I mine 24/7, getting 39C is incredible

Hi skirch!
Is it a real, normal  RTX 3080 (or this is some kind of modification)?
Can I put it into my desktop motherboard via PCI-e as usual RTX card?
Can I put my current RTX 2060 into the gaming box?

Hey Buddy, I'm in the same situation.

Looks like you managed to get it working, but reading the thread i cannot see how. Do you mind sharing how you managed to overcome not having TB3? Did you have only USB C and device manager/nicehash still sees the eGPU?

thanks

What u talking about . All my 3080’s run between 38-44 C . Thats a normal operating temps for these gpu’s while mining .

Also been running them for 5 months now with a junction temp of 104-110 c . It’s not ideal but they made to run this hot .
