Discord servers targeted in cryptocurrency exchange scam wave

According to Kaspersky researcher Mikhail Sytnik, scam artists are now entering Discord servers and are sending private messages to users that appear to be from new, up-and-coming cryptocurrency exchanges.

Fortunately for us, we have two Legendaries here in our community @dkbit98 and @Baofeng leading the way to uncovered this fake crypto exchange sites and reports them for years running already.

Kudos to them who always expose these scams and also to you. But these scammers won't stop until they've been caught personally by the authorities. After the scam mania in the telegram channels and groups, they're now migrating to discord servers because it has gained it's popularity during 2020 although it's been existing for a long time. The scripts and texts of these scammers are already familiar to us but newbies are always the vulnerable ones that they're targeting.

For anyone that  uses Discord for cryptocurrency related servers you should probably consider only accepting personal messages from people you have added as a friend. This way, you can keep all unsolicited messages out in the public, which a scammer is far less likely to do, and can still conduct trades or whatever via private message if you desire to do that.

Discord, Telegram, Skype, and various other services which aren't specifically created for Bitcoin, will tend to be abused. This forum, has multiple warnings when you are dealing with someone, either through their trust, or via a warning message if the user is a new user. So, you don't have that safety net, over in these sections, and its probably best to just limit those that can contact you to prevent any incidents highlighted above.

I've experienced a lot of scammers in discord channel where they targeting different cryptocurrency-related discord groups.\

They are joining a lot of group in discord and then waiting for a newbie chat in the channel if you asking how to set up something they will pm you, if the discord group is like for exchange they have a phishing website ready for you, and then pm you that website that has a really similar homepage to the original website and then it will link to put your private key in the phishing website.

If you're visiting a website that is connected like for example metamask or another wallet you might fall into this kind of trap so be careful and always think before clicking links that came from unknown users in that platform.

I received one of these scam messages just yesterday. I was told that I had won some raffle and they gave me a promo code to claim my prize. When I went to claim the 0.55 BTC prize I was not allowed to withdraw because I needed to deposit a minimum of 0.02 BTC. It was an obvious scam the whole time but the deposit requirement just confirmed it.

Seen this as well, didn't bite as my gut tells me this is an obvious scam.  And exactly as what @FinneysTrueVision describe and hopefully with people putting efforts to report scams here in our community, we won't see some newbies bitching around after being scam by this so called exchanges and it's clone.

Exactly, this is the MO, they will ask you to deposit a minimum of 0.02 BTC before you can withdraw. But that this the scheme here, the moment you become greedy and think of the BTC that you supposedly win will be your downfall. And there are similar MO being pulled by this scammers, so everyone should be warn about this kind of trap and playing along with people's psychology.

We need to take our approach to a different level from what we is the status quo, if we do not remain vigilant about this scams and all we do is depend on authorities to catch this scum that are scamming the people on the Internet, the problem will only proliferate. Lately, Discord is getting the same treatment as Telegram becoming a new paradise for scammers and Discord has a new array of people that doesn't know what scams are lurking on the Internet. The only way for this scammer's platform migration to not become successful is to teach people the basics of different types of scam and how to spot one, as @passwordnow has said, the script never changes which means that we just need to teach people how some typical scam scripts work and hope to God that they won't get scammed after knowing the scripts.

Thanks, it was a year long battle for me and @dkbit98. We really didn't thought in the beginning that it will really grew like this. And the process and the evolution and the effort of scammers to do in great lengths just to continue even though we have reported and shutdown most of the sites, they won't simply stop and quit. And for newbies, stay away from Discord if you don't know what you are doing.
