I really don’t know why people ever fall for this. Why would anybody sell a wallet.dat containing a nice amount of bitcoin for less than its value?

The only way I can ever legitimately see somebody falling for it would be if the seller maybe couldn’t remember the passphrase & had some or most of it. The buyer could be technical enough to brute force it & see it as easy money.

I don’t understand any ofter way somebody would buy one though unless they’re totally dumb. If something seems too good to be true it is likely a scam. What use is a passphrase protected wallet.dat even if it has 5000 bitcoin in? Totally useless, please avoid.

I came across your thread about fake wallet.dat files. I wanted to try my luck with my GPU and I wanted to find out more. The work done during this discussion is great.
