SwitchPoker - Way to convert Credit Card to Bitcoin?

If you go to https://www.switchpoker.com, you can see that they allow deposits with Visa and Mastercard.

They recently enabled Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals.

Can you use Switchpoker as a way of converting Credit Card funds into Bitcoin?

strikesapphire.com is adding OKPay and maybe Moneybookers, you should try them first.  At bitjack21.com they accept WMZ deposits so your options are growing.  IMO you should support longstanding bitcoin gaming sites before those that jump late into the bitcoin bandwagon.

It appears that switchpoker have an undisclosed additional 5% on certain Bitcoin withdrawals.

They have also stated in email:

Our deposit and withdrawal system is reserved for players and is not to be used purely to move funds from one payment system to another.

Unfortunately - they currently have a 10BTC withdrawal minimum - and so if you have an amount less than this, but try to top up your account to 10BTC - you might still run into their somewhat secret rules on the matter.
edit: Changed to 5BTC minimum on 2012-10-15  (They manually adjust this every now and then based on the recent BTC exchange rate)


I don't begrudge them the 5% *if* it's prominently noted - and I understand they may have to be as careful as exchanges regarding AML/KYC, but as it stands switchpoker is not yet  being descriptive and up front enough.

I could be being naive..  and they may actually be perfectly happy to be used to move funds, so long as they get their 5% - but simply aren't willing to go on record saying so.


edit: Anyway - they do at least seem to be responsive to support emails and so far seem like good folk.

I would like to give an official response to the question of whether we allow users to use Switch Poker to convert credit card funds to Bitcoin.

Switch Poker exists to give people a place to play online poker. It is not set up as a currency exchange service. Thus all deposits and withdrawals are free to people who use the site to play poker.
If users attempt to use the site to convert funds to Bitcoin, and not to play poker, then the user is notified that there is a fee to continue with the Bitcoin withdrawal. The user is always given the option of having their funds returned back to their original payment source free of charge. We do not hold users' funds hostage in return for fees. The user is also give the second option of a free withdrawal to Bitcoin if they start to play on the site.

Before a user converts any Euro (the game currency is Euro) to Bitcoin they are displayed a confirmation message like below:

As per the confirmation message, we may (and often do) require ID to continue with a withdrawal of funds converted from Euro to Bitcoin.

To be clear, there is only the possability of a fee when withdrawing Bitcoins if the funds have been deposited using in Euro. If a user deposits Bitcoins there is no fee to withdraw Bitcoins.

We try to communicate all processes clearly to our customers. We would very much like to hear any feedback and suggestions which may help us improve the experience for our Bitcoin users.
