electrum 4.0.9 - funds don't show in new wallet...

i used electrum to buy bitcoin.
my default wallet could not be accessed because of a password failure
i made a new wallet using my seed
but cannot see my funds in it

any help?

Can you confirm your wallet is connected to  server? You can see a green button if it’s connected. If there's no such problem, do you have the address to check through? If so, please check the address with block explorer if the address have BTC or not.

You made a new wallet or recovered the old wallet with the recovery key you had?

Make sure that installed a legit electrum wallet since you mentioned that you bought bitcoin which is not possible in real electrum and there are hundreds of fake electrum wallets which are even available on Playstore.

Try to re-install it. If your seeds are correct and it's the latest version then it should appear but if it not then try to re-install it first. And make sure that you download it on the legit electrum download page.

When you look up the address on a block explorer, you can see your funds on it? What character does that address start with? 1, 3, or bc1?
When you recover the wallet from your seed phrase, do you see the addresses with your funds on it (even if it shows up as empty), or is your address not there at all? What character do the addresses in this new wallet start with? 1, 3, or bc1?
At any point do you remember using a passphrase or extending your seed phrase with additional words?

still nothing
i can see my funds on the block explorer - address starts with '3'
on the new wallet the addresses start with '1' and i can not see my address at all
i have not altered my seed phrase in any way

You didn't make changes to your seed phrase, but you clicked on the wrong address format during the restoration phase. Do it again, but when Electrum asks you which address format to use, click on the option that says P2SH. Those are the addresses that begin with 3. You selected P2PKH, that is why you see addresses that begin with 1.

Let us know if your transaction appears after selecting the correct address format.

If you try to restore an Electrum wallet ftom seed, you don't have to specify the adresse's format. Electrum will recognize the format automatically.
Op either made a mistake when copy pasting the receiving address (or his device is infected with the clipboard hijacker malware) or he restored the wrong wallet.

You are right khaled0111. When restoring Electrum-native seeds you don't have to select the address type. That is only the case when you select the BIP39 seed option during the restoration process. My mistake! I use Electrum together with a hardware wallet so I thought the process is the same when restoring third-party and native-Electrum seeds. 

OP could have sent the funds to the wrong address or he is using the wrong seed like you said.
To check if he is infected with a clipboard hijacker, I would suggest mee point to copy paste any bitcoin address somewhere to see if the same address is pasted or if it gets automatically changed.

Copy/paste this address in your browser or the send tab in Electrum just to check if the correct address will be shown. That way we will know for sure if we can rule out a crypto clipboard malware.

i used block explorer to check and the funds are there.
i also checked for the clipboard hijacker - no such malware on my device - addresses are correctly pasted
i did not restore my initial wallet i created a new one using my seed

is it possible to restore my initial wallet? i thought it is not.

should i use a different wallet maybe?

If  you previously made a lot of transactions you fund might be allocated on addresses which are beyond default gap limit  equals to 20. When you restore Electrum from  SEED those addresses are not shown. To see them you need to increase the gap limit. Read an instruction from ^{official documentation} how to do this.

Did you ever see these funds inside your Electrum wallet before you forgot the password? Are you sure the addresses inside that Electrum wallet also started with "3"?

If the new wallet contains addresses starting with "1", and the old wallet contained addresses starting with "3", then you have recovered the wrong wallet. Are you sure this is the correct seed phrase? How did you create it in the first place? Did you generate it in Electrum, or did you generate it elsewhere and import it in to Electrum?

if i understand correctly what happened, i was trying to recover the 'first recovery' of my initial wallet instead
of the initial wallet which actually had a 2fa. so, i used the 2fa seed and recovered my initial wallet disabling 2fa...

Glad you have resolved it.

You're right. You were trying to recover the wrong wallet and this is why you got different addresses.
I suggest you move your funds to a native segwit wallet (addresses start with bc1) to save in fees. Because, although you've disabled 2fa, your wallet is still a multisig wallet.
