Got to think about it. How does someone being able to think that it is possible to double your Bitcoin within just a short span of time like 30 mins as mentioned by the OP? It is clearly impossible at the first thought. Also how does a very busy man like Elon Musk will be catering such a give away by the same time? Clearly it is on the part of the victim that have the faulty for believing into such scheme being played by those scammers for they have used that weakness of him to get along making him their target. Scam are always those that are far beyond possible to be attainable to be easily recognized. If you are into investment or trading and someone offers you to double your money it just a span of short time, then that is you must consider it as a scam for it is impossible and do not get easily fooled by someone mentioning other famous personalities. Always do verify the info.

Who is responsible for such giveaway scams? We are the one who is responsible for these kinds of scams because of our greedy behavior. If you take a deep look at the scam accusation board then you will discover many giveaway scams. So these methods become very old. But it's quite surprising that people still want to double their money within minutes, unfortunately. I have seen many posts on Twitter about double money, but I never click there. This means we have to use our common sense to save our money. No one could save us if we do not help ourselves.

Scammer uses famous people names to scam innocent people. Even if you follow big crypto youtubers, there are so many fake ids created on the name of those youtubers and they try to contact people asking form money. These scammers will not stop doing this. We need to be aware and stop being greedy.

The man deposited on fake address to double his Bitcoins in 30 minutes time frame without even realising that it is clear scam. Why would Musk announce such a giveaway? People just got eroded away with the greed and ends up loosing all their money. We need to first recheck everything before doing such stupid acts and act wisely.
Like I'm always saying in the past, "Those ignorant ones will be the one who will fall into this kind of trap" and well, it always work as they are always successful in scamming people in this way.

Musk and Bitcoin itself are innocent into this one as they are just being used to scam those ignorant and newbie ones. Even though we are giving advices to them, there are just people who are greedy and want a quick earn money that is why they most of the time ended up getting scammed. I've seen this tactics in Youtube many times already and I've seen also some famous vloggers here in our country that have been hacked and used their channel to scam more people. One used Ethereum and one used VeChain.

Double in 30 mins? That alone is a red flag for me and others should be aware on this too.

Greed is basic human character and we can't really blame anyone for that. In today's world, everything revolves around money. So for each and every individual, the ultimate target is to get more and more wealth in the form of money or other assets. I have seen many of these "give away" scams. I can't really blame the victims. Because even for me (I have 7 years of experience in cryptocurrency sector), it took some time to realize that the campaign was a scam. They look so genuine and only very careful examination can spot the difference.

For a second I thought Elon was involved in a scam from the way the OP's titled post read. Elon is an influential man, and in financial matters he tops as the richest man on the globe. It's little wonder why people would claim to be him. It's no fault of his that some stupid and greedy folks decide to fall for petty scams branding Elon Musk as the advertiser of certain freebies. They should have taken a minute to ask themselves why would a wealthy dude like Elon ask anyone to send him Bitcoin or any other crypto before he gives them the  purported freebies. But no, they wouldn't because their brain cells aren't properly developed to reason a simple matter. Anyone who falls for such scams such tag himself an idiot. Simple!

Many here quick to defend Elon that he is not a scammer but immediately argues that he might also doing some fishy things. I mean if you want to speculate what the man is doing then feel free to speculate. But please do mention that it is only a speculation and not use words to show that Elon is guilty of scamming people. That is already accusing someone of wrongdoing and that is slanderous. Show proof and we might change our minds. Better yet, if you have evidence then throw it on court and battle it out legally.

I hope this doesn't sound mean but if a guy actually deposits money to some address he sees on Twitter, then he deserves to lose that money. The only person I'd send money to if asked is my family and even then I'd check with them first that they really asked me for it:)

Elon is not my favorite guy but surely you can't blame him for this scam?

Since he is one of the big names in the industry of crypto, that was expected that those filthy hackers will use his identity as a promoter of the scam investment method. People should be aware of this and even the name like Bill gates or the other celebrities right there are prone to this kind of move where their names are being used to promote such scams. People nowadays should be vigilant when they see some offers like this because there is no way that those big-time guys will give you an offer such as the OP posted.

That what they are saying here is also their own opinion, yet to be illegal as there is no evidence pointing someone did the scam. This issue doesn't have an end until such a time that the REAL Elon Musk will make a favor and denied, say something, and protect himself of not committing such a scam.
I understand that some people will directly accuse Elon as the scammer use his name. Will never know as well if that really the Elon Musk we know online or someone else.

Just like you said, it much better to have strong evidence otherwise, the case dismissed.

Truly, the Elon Musk scam is everywhere. Most telegram groups, you will people posting it, up and down. The same is happening in Twitter too. Facebook is not left out.
But what baffles me most is how can one fall for such cheap trick? The moment I saw it, I knew that it is a scam.

Hi there aysg76, I feel sad for the German man who has lost his bitcoins to those hackers. As far an I have read, this is not the first time that it happened. Tried to search the link in this forum for the first instance about hacking using Musk's name but got some hard time looking for it. The jizz is that an American man has also been hacked also using the tweeter platform.

Lots of scammers these days are taking advantage of Elon's name to scam people and one of the common reasons why unwise people get scam is their greediness. They always think that anything that involves Elon's name is profitable. We can't deny the fact that Elon is really an influential person yet it's still our prerogative to be wise and observant on what to follow or where to invest with.

people who have been hit by the hype forget to check whether it's really elon or not. Greed does make people forget what they are getting into, they can't tell the difference between real and fake.
People who have fallen into the trap of fake elons or scammers are people who generally don't understand how to distinguish a scammer or not and they are mostly newbies who are just getting into trying their luck at crypto.

I just can't believe how naive and stupid people can be sometimes. This is probably like the second time Elon Musk name was used and I still remembered how a famous youtuber even told how stupid and obvious this scam is and people still fall for this. I won't be surprised it there's going to be a third Elon Musk imposter since there's just too much people who is ignorant in the internet.

Truly, the Elon Musk scam is everywhere. Most telegram groups, you will people posting it, up and down. The same is happening in Twitter too. Facebook is not left out.
But what baffles me most is how can one fall for such cheap trick? The moment I saw it, I knew that it is a scam.

It is not that easy to recognize it as a scam, especially for the inexperienced users. They use the same profile picture and profile name (even with a blue tick). If you don't notice the difference in the username, then in all probability you will fall victim to this scam. All that said, there is no point in blaming the victims. They have been scammed by criminals and we must make sure that they get justice.

Here is the story about an individual who lost his entire life savings to such a scam:

The hacker who promised on behalf of celebrities that he would double the amount of Bitcoins transferred by their followers on the social network, if the funds in question come to their account as soon as possible, has collected about 117,000 dollars. The hacker also returned all bitcoins he had stolen.

The amount is not so great, but still shows that there are many people who have more hope for such things than common sense and the realization that these are scams.

Poor Elon Musk, it's no surprise though, if someone has the name and fame, of course there will be so many people that want to take advantage of those things. But, tbh it's such an obvious scam, I can't believe someone really fall for that. Like, if we think about it logically, it is almost impossible to double your bitcoin in just 30 minutes, even using Elon Musk name, people should be more aware if things are too good to be true.
But well, now things happened already we can make it to be more cautious and careful, shouldn't fall for that kind of traps. It's kinda sad though his name got bad without doing anything lol.

Sometimes when I open Twitter there will be many users who use the name elon musk in promoting fake links, so I always be careful and double-check what I have read so as not to be fooled by these scammers. Currently on social media, especially Twitter is a place to carry out these fraudulent acts, so be careful.

That is really a sad scene when your opening you Social Media account but there is a thing that we should all keep in mind. It is the fact that Elon Musk would not promote any website with using a different account. He will always use his main account which is great because Elon is a very vocal man and he would say what is on his mind regarding different topics and that is why we should just wait for Elon Musk on his account when he talks about Cryptocurrencies that could benefit us. Twitter does not have the time to do a lot of fact-checking because of the million of users doing so many fake accounts and talks about many of fake events happening and that is why its our responsibility to follow what is on our mind.

You seem to be confusing the case depicted in this thread, with the twitter account hack back in July 2020. The latter did involve around 117K$ worth of bitcoin (see https://www.tampabay.com/news/crime/2021/03/16/tampa-twitter-hacker-agrees-to-three-years-in-prison-in-plea-deal/), but the topic in the OP verses on an account made to look like Musk’s account, but not actually taking over his account, although posting his scam link within one of Musk’s twitter threads (see image here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5324691.msg56593064#msg56593064).

Being the case depicted in the OP less sophisticated, it actually came off with a larger loot (just over 12 BTC in received TXs on the used btc address), mainly by a stroke of good fortune with one person transferring 10 BTC in one go.

'Sigh' it seems people will always behave foolish even when the reality is glaring right in front of them, how easy is it for some people to throw money around to people on the Internet, no wonder scammers are not trying too hard when we have the likes of him everywhere, I hope he learnt something from this and others who are potential victim should learn also Undecided

It is like the "Nigerian King or Nigerian's prince with their sons" scam all over again. Some people are gullible when it comes to free money and the fact that they should be aware about is that there is no free money anymore. Everything in this world is gained through hard work or pure luck. In our case, being within the Cryptocurrency Industry requires both and we should always have a clear mind when making this kind of decisions.
