After Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey[1], Charles Haskinson Cardano co-founder sold his popular "Support Email" tweet as a Non-fungible token (NFT) on the Ethereum based Valuables platform.
In July 2018 (July 97), Haskinson had an unpleasant interaction with the MetaMask team on Twitter.
When Haskinson asked about removing the wallet from the Chrome Store, he was asked to use a support email. His inappropriate response to this request quickly turned into a joke in the crypto space. Grin
This tweet has been a part of crypto history ever since, and now anyone can own it.
Earlier this week, Dorsey sold his first tweet, released in March 2006, for 2.9 million bucks.
So far, the highest bid for Haskinson's tweet has been only $ 3,000, which is far from what Twitter CEO's earned.

I guess the amounts paid for both past Twitter posts show the Twitter owner is way more popular and  has something that's worth paying for by the people who knows what he is worth.

The Cardano Twitter post made me smile though. The smile is actually more valuable to me.

I rather do not understand that what would be the benefit of owning the tweet ?
Can you edit it and retweet or add something else ? I do not think so. But at the same time I do think that some people do this just for the sake of their favorite celebs.  But rather people fail to realize that these social media apps are exploiting us by doing such things. It feels like they are literally selling everything now a days. But at the same time if you do have time and some money then you can actually do something by owning things similar to this, but rather my opinion might be weird for most people but at the same time the original work is not only restricted to the author or the people who paid , it would rather help you to use this at different places or platforms since you are honestly paying for a premium share. But you can do that by giving image or tweets credits, idk , but at the same time are they going to take down all the images of the tweet being used or something ? Because I do think that it would be rather a difficult task.

Which one is the scammier: Charles Hoskinson or NFT of Charles Hoskinson's tweet?
MetaMask support should have answered with "Yes, use support email like anyone else. Contrary to your mom's belief, you are not special." Grin

Anyway, $3,000 is a lot of money for a useless tweet. However, if we think that a handwritten signature from celebrities can worth something, this NFT phenomenon makes sense.

Exactly !
I honestly do think they have amazing marketing team!

that is, I don't know if i understood correctly to collect a tweet by charles-hoskinson transformed into nft for what purpose? does it have or will it ever have any economic value? will anyone ever pay $ 3000 for it?

The payment is equivalent to buying some rights to use that tweet, post about it in public places and at the same time the problem is " how do they intend to take out the already existing usage ? "

Selling paintings through NFT makes sense.

Tweet on the other hand won't hold much value , since one can already take a SC anytime and I do think that people are just trying to use this to get through quarantine.

Plus I am also interested in knowing if Twitter is indeed getting some funds from here also.

Just for the sake of ownership of that tweet, I guess. I don't think it has economic value also, not worth also in my opinion. Better buy an NFT art from a famous painter rather than pay for this useless tweet. But for sure, someone will buy this, someone can really spend this money for nothing. Now, that NFTs are the new hype. At some point, many people will create their own. Would not be the last person to make his tweet NFT. Let's watch out for celebrities and other popular personalities...

Years ago we had kodak, atari and others announcing bold plans for blockchain related projects to boost their stock price by 20% or more. Many of these bold proposals never materialized or reached fruition but they seemed to be worth a hefty boost in stock market cap.

Now it seems, brand name recognition of blockchain has spilled over into the art world. With efforts being made to artificially inflate the value of NFTs which critics might say: do not appear to carry more intrinsic value than a screencap. Jamie Dimon and others became famous years ago for claiming that bitcoin is a bubble. I did not take them seriously then. But if they had said that NFTs are a bubble now. I may have to admit they might be on to something.

There's a chance NFTs prices could be somewhat sustainable through blockchain recognition. The way that stock values of atari and kodak were sustained through making blockchain proposals. But this is art and collectibles we're speaking of. I can't say they're something I know much about.

You get the right to own that tweet if you get to pay the asking price for that tweet or any tweet from popular people that sells it. It has an economic value because there's a monetary value to it and that's the selling price.

And once it's already being passed or someone bought it, that will be passed on that buyer and it's up to him if he's going to resell it at a higher price and if there's the same person that's interested on that tweet as NFT.

As you’ve read on OP, the highest bid is $3000 so technically, someone wants to spend money on that simple tweet and store it for long until it values more that what he spend for. There might be no economic value at all, but NFT is growing over the past months and we’ve seen crazy deals before, I don’t know much with NFT but the hype is really bullish right now.

I just can’t afford good NFTs right now but its good to see that someone is willing to spend on NFT and that makes this market grow, if many celebrities will create their own NFT, we can expect more crazy deals coming into this market, I’m waiting for Facebook founder Zuckerberg to sell his first post.  Grin

more then likely, we will see more of this in the coming months or years. the NFT business is just starting and some people are already realising that their tweet (like Jack Dorsey selling it for $2.9M) or digital art (like the NFT item for “Everydays: The First 5000 Days” sold for staggering $69.3 million). and with these examples, some people like celebrities or sports icons are now potential creators of these NFTs. but i dont see any assurance if for example this charles tweet valued at $3k will still be valuable in the future. no one knows its future value, the buyer just hold to the idea that it will be valuable in the future just like purchasing physical paintings

Well I knew it was only a matter of time before everyone starts hopping on the NFT stuff and trying to make money from it. Now whenever I visit the NFT site I’m seeing lots of celebrities/influencers who are steady putting up all their tweets as NFT, like seriously??? So everyone now wants to do it because Jack did it?

The most annoying thing is how they are now exploiting it, even those that will make some meaningless tweets and they will still want people to be buying it as NFT. They all are always looking for means to be making through everything lol. Jack’s own tweet is the highest I’ve ever seen and I know they will all be eyeing that.

This is interesting, I have not thought of NFTs on that way but you are right if there is a huge market for autographs then there could be a market after all for NFTs when it comes to collector items, still I will admit that I will never pay for any NFT as I do not see the point, I have seen many people in the past saying that the only thing they collect is money and while that may sound greedy those people have a point, I do not see the point of keeping collectibles when I could make better use of the cash.

That will still depend on who is the celebrity that you have a signature of, if you have Amber Heard signature then you might as well use that piece of paper with her signature as a toilet paper, what I mean by that is that these items from prominent people depend on their fame, are they a A lister or B lister will make a difference same as this NFT phenomenon, if the person behind the item is not that famous then their NFTs will be valued lower. 3,000 is not a lot of money, remember that Jack Dorsey sold his tweet for millions which is the same as any tweets out there.

The days of spending money on ridiculous art in the name of nft are upon us,
What is the brain behind buying a tweet with so much money that you can't edit or do anything with, except to probably frame it and keep it in your house as an important collection, lol, something to give you an inspiration I hope. Grin

The NFT craze will eventually die down. The idea of "owning" a digital, infinitely replicable piece of media will soon no longer be novel, and then people will be left with whether these things actually have value after all the speculators are gone.

that is, I don't know if i understood correctly to collect a tweet by charles-hoskinson transformed into nft for what purpose? does it have or will it ever have any economic value? will anyone ever pay $ 3000 for it?

You never know what some people can consider valuable and wouldn't mind paying a high price for it, turning tweet to ntf happens to be 'the-in-thing' of late, seem all the likes of cz and hoskinson has found a new trend Cheesy
Perhaps anyone who look up to this guys will be willing to buy irrespective of economic value or not.

The people who don't understand how others can pay this much for something that they don't find valuable has never met a lot of people or they lack the social skills of understanding others. Not to mention that rich people have a lot of money that they don't know where to spend it on and a lot of people that are promoting these kind of things are just simply stamping out values to anything that a rich person may buy.

It actually makes a common man wonder why someone would even thought of spending money on things that they may not consider valuable,  but like the saying goes, 'one man's meat is another's poison'
So I can't blame anyone who find such way of spending money very odd, but then this rich people also have odd ways of doing things. Grin

I'm wondering the same thing, IDK why they're spending too much on a tweet as if it will become a thing in the future. I get it, maybe they idolize the person but I don't have any idea about it, does the price will be higher in the future? and I'm wondering if it'll be more profitable than investing that money on some potential crypto to be multiplied?

...Or maybe they can use it to have an authority or title in the history of crypto, idk what's in the mind of rich people.

Rich people always know how to make money thru hype, they see this one as valuable and for sure, they are thinking about reselling this on the market. I wonder if ordinary people will ever do this kind of crazy transactions, $3000 is too much for just a tweet, but of course this is NFT everything goes on a expensive value.
