worst for me was campaigning hard for these projects. joining there campaign projects here on bitcointalk and also investing. hoping that the reward will be huge but unfortunately, it turns out the projects was a scam. the alpha mining did promotions here and people fall for that. one of the reasons some projects conducted marketing is to create an outreach and then, they dissappear.
I have so many experiences with fake projects putting up a campaign here in the forum and that’s my worst investment since I work for it and invest my time but I ended up into nothing. Good thing that we have so many concern people here in the forum and every time they see fake or scam project, they share it to the public.

Did the scams have founders known in the space or where the founders hiding ? If they are hiding, it's obv a bad sign even if they are hiding to protect themselves legally.

It's no surprised that ICOs are being compared to NFTs of right now. It's just a pump and dump, quick to make money scheme.
I compared ICOs and NFTs as digital tulips.
Just stick with the basics: Bitcoin, Ethereum and Binance Coin.

too many that I can't count them, lol
when I first started with crypto, I was still a layman, I thought all projects were convincing, it turned out that I was wrong, there were a lot of scammers, I gave some of my savings to them and had time to give up hope, but I never gave up and learned how to choose a good project. starting from seeing the team and reading the road map

That's how crypto is happening right now, it's almost impossible to tell which ones are scammers and which are legitimate.
As for losing money in crypto, even though it's not too big, it's almost certain that everyone has experienced a victim of scamers if they invest in hype altcoins. the greater the hype that occurs in the market, the greater the chance for scammers to get prey.
There was a project I invested in 2018 thinking that the project gonna be a massive one I invested some of my my time and efforts in it by participating in their bounty campaign managed by a Sr.member of the forum after more than two months of promotion , a lot of investors invested in their ICO Lo and Behold the developers and the manager went AWOL and turned scam all my efforts was in futility and funds gone it was a very painful experience while expecting a massive profits thinking that the project is real however I have to move.

Yes, there were potentials. Though if you would imagine, how many would be willing to find those "potential projects"?
It is like finding diamond covered with a loads of shit. It is a mess and might not be worth finding one in exchange of proper hygiene. Cheesy

I am avoiding people or groups whom I don't know that involves money or donations. I am bad at part of not trusting others on that way but there are so many people that used different ways just to scam others. I have earned real money in crypto without involving real money so it becomes my standard on everything I want to join to earn.

That night I was blinded by greed which cost me coins.  I followed a project that promised a lot of profit.
I'm interested because their tweeter has a lot of followers.  Through this account, the fraudster held a prize event, where by sending a coin to an address, it was promised that it would be multiplied in a few minutes. For example, if you send 1 coin, you will get 2 coins.  I didn't realize that the scammer had managed to trick me.

For new users, it takes a lot of time to get adjusted to the realities of cryptocurrency market. A lot of them are looking for quick profits and they believe that all the social media propaganda is true. And one thing I have noticed about the scam projects is that they advertise themselves really nicely. Blind trust, combined with greed makes sure that the noobs find themselves in a sticky situation later. But the trick is not to repeat the same mistake again. Once you get scammed, take it as a learning opportunity and be more careful.

since I got to know crypto, I have saved a lot of money in scam places, and most of it is in investment places such as HYIP sites, minning, and also ICOs. it happened in 2016 to 2019. however, for now I only keep my money in popular coins to minimize the risk of scam, and price changes.

Well, if you have a penchant of telling all of your stories especially your financial journey to strangers then be my guest. Do you want to give out some financial information to someone who you don't know and felt close since you are both in the same Bitcoin forum slash community of people who are all Bitcoin and altcoin investors. Word of advise who wants to get rich and be successful in crypto, there is no need for you to give out such financial information to anybody whether it is an innocent thread of story telling or possibly something sinister. Story tell all you want at your own risk.

I don't think there's no shame admitting that we make mistakes, that's where you learn from. Sometimes even with DYOR, legit looking projects turn out to be scams. And sometimes we just want to risk it.

During last bullrun ico frency 2017-2018 many people were saying that ICO scams are now over and next time people will be smarter. However now there are more scams then ever, especially rug pulls in uniswap and pancakeswap. We just don't call them ICOs anymore.

My failures of judgement contain 2 icos from many years ago which were obvious scams in hindsight : Swiss Alps Mining, Envion and one latest where Dev disappeared after i aped in to some BSC shittoken for the hopes of 2x-10 flip (i can't even remember the name of it).

Luckily i haven't invested anything i couldn't lose (to scams anyway), and i have even made money with investing to something that turned out to be scam later on. But still they are obviously annoying.

So i would like to hear your stories on how did you get scammed. Was it because you aped in without research or something else?

There are some scam projects that look convincing, at first I wanted to put money there because it looks professional, but after I followed the advice in the https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0 section, then I canceled and it turns out some projects proved to be scams.

In the past, I funded quite a lot of spam projects and at that time I was less thorough in analyzing projects and some only followed the advice of some friends, but since that incident I have been more careful and until now I have never invested in a scam project

it was a very bad experience, stuck up to 5x. That's how it is.. a project that looks convincing is sometimes just an illusion.

I was also stuck once, I panicked about buying because at that time I was still a newbie and ico was hype. I joined ico without analyzing the project, and that's where my funds ran out.

Since then I have always rethought to put the funds, and prefer not to invest directly. I prefer to join bounties and competitions to profit from crypto, this is the way I can handle the most losses.

I have had a fair share of having experiences of being scammed, through which due to my lack of diligence and impulsiveness. These experiences happened inside and outside of crypto, and these have taught me hard-learned lessons to not trust easily and always be doubt first then research or even ask for proofs and all.

I am glad to withdraw my ICO investment before the team running away with the collected funds. The only small cost was the withdrawal fee on their platform but I didn't let the scammers rob my investment. Checking team members on social media and their roadmap, whitepaper is are not enough steps to protect our funds from scammers.

no problem we loss our fund for tranfers fee rather than lose all of money due scammed in fake projects. team background should be the first thing we need to check. avoid anonymous team should be our priority for investing , most of them only build short term project and will not survive for long term.
That is why I hesitate to invest in the dead projects before checking the all details that can affect the profitability of the investment. The anonymous teams can be frustrating if something goes wrong and we look for someone to ask a refund. Professional scammers are hard to detect and everything is designed to take our money. After reaching a specific investment pool, the scammers run as fast as they can. Victims only cry on the public forums and look for help, sad but true, unfortunately.
