I mean, it doesn't matter if the research he's referencing is accurate or factual. What Tesla, and therefore Elon is trying to do is make their brand look good. Tesla are pushing the agenda that by using their products they are helping the environment, and is bettering climate change. Which means, if they implement a currency which is linked with increasing the effects of climate change, they need to distance themselves from that as much as possible, since it doesn't matter if its correct, its the perception of their customers. I wouldn't be surprised if Bitcoin was implemented just to they could pull this stunt to try gain the trust of their potential customers.

That's probably what he's doing, there's someone whose job is assigned to research things for him and it includes bitcoin. But what I personally think is that he has personal knowledge and facts knew about bitcoin and the crypto market himself. By the way he talks about Dogecoin means that he's aware that it has no use case and just made for meme yet he pursued it and advertised it as much as he can and influenced the market a lot of people to invest in meme coins. Yeah so true. The fact that so many probably millions of people threw their money into a joke like Dogecoin simply because Musk told them to (and the same people are pumping a variety of the worst most useless coins in the crypto market, from failed "BTC/ETH-killers" of yesteryear to parodies of Dogecoin because investing in the joke coin itself wasn't dumb enough lol). And now Bitcoin dumps by a few thousand dollars because of something Musk says. People who are investing based off what some celebrity says are not emotionally sound enough to invest in the first place.

I think this guy was having huge holdings, and I believed he has that power to speculate something based on his statements. Then those avid fans and followers of him really take those words seriously which is a huge impact to what happened on the price today. This is what Bitcoin is made for. Bitcoin's PoW has energy costs. Everything else that has value has an energy cost. Tesla being a EV company, it probably wasn't a prudent thing to associate with Bitcoin because of the optics. This may even have been a board decision.

Look how Musk didn't say anything "personalized" about this like he does about things he actually cares about. It is just a screenshot of some official document. That is pretty much unlike Musk. I think he is basically doing the sensible businessman thing (prompted/ forced by his board considering that a lot of future financing for his Mars plans may depend on Tesla's success).

This is just Elon playing safe considering that too much is at stake. I don't think it is anything to panic about for Bitcoiners. Even if some do, this will be the perfect buying opportunity. Ah, so that's what happened. I actually just made a sell yesterday and then thought as I just saw prices now just over 12 hours later I'd saved myself a tidy sum by selling early, instead of waiting til today.

Pretty interesting is that although BTC was the target in that tweet other coins who basically have no mining have been hit just as hard from XRP to LINK, this was a moment when the whole diversifying your stash thing should have proven to be useful, but no, even if the cause of all was a key aspect in the design of all those altcoins it didn't matter.  It's like BMW taking a hit because of a bad rice harvest in India, more than interesting it's quite funny, seems like all those claims of the markets finally maturing and with serious investors onboard are highly overrated, the vast majority of traders are still acting like headless chickens that get decapitated at every tweet.

As for stocks, I don't think this could be related, indeed coins have started to follow the same pattern so when there is a dump on the stock market we do have some consequences here but that would apply only to the decline on Monday when stocks went down and continue to go like this after closing a way better than expected week on Friday. Yeah, too bad that when trying to make a point you showed that you don't know how mining works, it doesn't matter how many transactions are processed by the network the same energy is consumed, full blocks or empty blocks.
Quite ironically, if his tweets would have brought the price down to 40k or so he could have indeed lowered the power consumption as miners would have seen their reward drop by 30%, and thus the most inneficient ones with higher energy costs would have dropped out and shut down their gear.

In short since if you're really interested in mining there are better resource out there than I could ever write:

The amount of energy spent on mining blocks depends on only one thing, the reward miners get from mining those, right now they are getting 900 bitcoins from block rewards a day and they can spend up to $45 million on doing so. If the price drops to $1000 they would be able to spend only $900k. If BTC skyrockets to 500k of course the sum will follow up and so will the energy consumption but the networks will still only be able to process ~400k transactions a day.

Theoretically, if it drops to 1 cent the networks could still process the same amount of transactions but probably the only ones mining will do so with their CPUs as the reward to be shared between miners would be $10, just like in 2010.

The market is already on a path to recovery already. That FUD that Elon Musk and his company tesla spread was just temporary and I believe the community will get over it soon. There's no need for him to make a final decision. He's in no rush and he's the one that gives the decision at any time without anything to hurry about.
