The first winner of the lottery has been announced yesterday, it was a 22 year old woman, there are still 4 more millions to be given and even more scholarships, not only that it seems the measure has been so effective despite the criticism of some that other states are implementing their own lotteries to incentive people to get the vaccine.

Well congratulation to the winner and for the upcoming winners of their draw.
I just found out that there are also some local vaccine site in the Philippines who also have some giveaways or free draw for their citizens who also got vaccinated but not as big as this one I think it was grocery supplies (Food and rice).
Even though it isn't that much for others but because of this pandemic many families has suffer and lack of it so it is still a huge blessing for those who really needed it and won in their raffle draw.

Even if some do not look with good eyes what some governments are doing with this I do not see any problem with it, those that do not believe in the vaccines are not going to get it no matter what, but there are others that may like to do so but they need a little incentive and something like this can be good as we need the majority of the population to take the vaccine so we can drop the number of people that die because of this virus to the smallest number possible.

Wow, I thought it was money, which is why after reading about the first winner being a 22-year old I thought that it might turn out badly. Bit all grownups would know what to do about such big money, and the youngest... But scholarships are great! Quality education can be really expensive these days, and this is a very good encouragement both for vaccination and education.
But doesn't this mean that these lotteries only intend to increase the vaccination rate among the younger generations? I thought the most problem was with the elderly

Right now it is the youth, who are behaving recklessly. Many of them are refusing to get vaccinated and they are not following the social distancing protocols and precautions such as wearing mask. On the other hand, most of the elderly population has reacted positively to the vaccination campaign, except a few anti-vaxxers. My opinion is that it doesn't matter whether they are targeting the young or old. As the proportion of the vaccinated population goes up, herd immunity can be achieved that sooner.

When it comes to priority then i dont think that there would be in proportion to that between the young and the old.Its true that the main objective is to make vaccine shots into the community
or simply with the citizens.

Some would really be seeing this as a bad initiative just to make people changed up their minds but honestly there would be someone who cant really be just easily get convinced despite
of the program that they are running.

Well.. in case the vaccine supply is limited, then it makes no sense to announce lottery prizes and all. But this is an issue that is prevalent almost everywhere. With the exception of a few countries such as Israel, US, UK and some of the smaller island nations, everyone else is facing a vaccine shortage. And going by the current trends, it is unlikely to get alleviated anytime soon. All of the vaccine manufacturers are facing supply bottlenecks and it has affected their output.

It could surely make people interest in vaccinating because they can win some prizes. Those steps can be a solution for other organizations, but they will think about adding more budget to buy the prizes if that is a product. But the important thing is giving them an understanding of the vaccine and explain to them how the vaccine can give them protection besides following the health protocols. Even if the new variant of the virus already attacks people in some countries, they do not have to worry.

If the private organizations are starting this initiative, then I don't think that anyone is going to complain. The main issue is when tax money is being used for the purpose (similar to what Ohio is doing). And in the developed nations, these prizes (such as motorcycle and television) mean a lot to people and it can have a positive impact on the vaccination rates. But as we mentioned several times earlier, at least until July, there is going to be a shortage of vaccines in many of the developing nations.

It may appeal to some, but don't forget the fact that you can get a lottery ticket with a jackpot of $1 million, for as little as $5. So essentially, those who got vaccinated are being paid $5 each. It may be a big amount in a country such as India or Pakistan. But in the US, it is less than half of the hourly minimum wage. But I don't want to oppose this move from the government, as they are doing this to encourage the vaccination rate. My opinion is that people should get vaccinated without any compelling.

I think the system actually works and people hearing that there was an actual winner gives them evidence that this all isn't a fake, which creates even more hype around this action, that's a good thing. I think even those who don't see the point in vaccination (except for the crazies that think the vaccine will kill them) can actually go and get one, just for the sake of money. So, in the end, almost everyone will be vaccinated.
It's not really good, that people still don't understand the importance of all this and act recklessly, but in terms of national health there really is no difference as to WHY they chose to take a vaccine shot, the fact that they actually did it is what matters.

Abbigail Bugenske has won Ohio's first $1 million jackpot in the state's Vax-a-Million lottery.

A recent college graduate, the 22-year-old Bugenske lives in the Cincinnati area, residing in the small and quiet village of Silverton about 11 miles northeast of the city.

She works for GE Aviation, recently moving to the area for her job.

She's also an Ohio State University student pursuing a master's in aerospace engineering, and graduated from Michigan State University in August of last year.

Speaking to the press for the first time Thursday, Bugenske said she has no plans to quit her current job — a job she loves — and plans to donate at least some of her winnings to charity.

“I was completely surprised when I got the call. I still can’t believe it. It was a crazy night," the 22-year-old said.

Two doses of the vaccine cost the authorities close to $100 per person. And despite the cost involved in procuring the vaccine and logistics (Pfizer vaccines need to be stored at -70 degrees), they are given for free. Now if some people are still reluctant to get the vaccines, then IMO they should not be forced. Around the world a lot of countries are facing shortage of vaccines and if any of the Americans don't want to be vaccinated, then their doses should be distributed to those in need.

Actually, the government doesn't really care about people's reasons for wanting to be injected with vaccines. The most important thing is that in the end,
many people are motivated to inject vaccines. Because there are lottery offers with very large prizes, even so I'm sure there are still some people who
refuse to be vaccinated. Like you said there are some people who think vaccines can kill them, or there are also those who think that the corona virus is
not real. It's really hard to get everyone to be vaccinated. This is the task of the government, which must be diligent in educating its citizens that

Things change from country to country, this is possible in the US as they have a great deal of vaccines ready and they want people to get vaccinated already so they can open their economy as soon as possible, where I live things are different than in the US, we do not have a lot of vaccines so it is being given to the people that need it the most, and most of them are taking the vaccine so there is not need for something like this to be implemented yet.

This is the best way to attract people to get vaccine I guess, and we might see some establishments to required vaccines upon checking in, We really have no choice but to get the vaccines that's for our own benefit as well. Government should ensure the safety of every vaccines so people have the confidence to get it, not all senior citizen wants to get the vaccine because they are afraid, the government should fight the false media with regards to vaccine. Supply is getting better now, as many COVAX facilities already provide huge amount of vaccines to those developing countries.

I don't really blame some of them, people dying after taking the vaccine is concerning especially to the people who don't really understand why or how it happened. the real problem is that it was blown out of proportion(especially by the anti-vax), and even after explaining why or how it happened the fear of the possibility of dying when the vaccine is taken has been instilled to the people who've read about it.

So you want to make the vaccination mandatory?

That may be possible in dictatorships such as China and North Korea, but I don't think that it will be practical in countries such as US where the personal liberties are considered very important. You can't force anyone to take vaccine against their will. The authorities can encourage the population with schemes such as this one, but forcing someone (either directly or indirectly) will have just the opposite impact. In a larger perspective, those who refuse to get vaccinated are not only endangering their lives, but also that of those around them. But at this point, using force or coercion is out of question.

In an attempt to increase the number of people getting vaccinated all kind of incentives are being given in the US, one of the most interesting is that those that get at least the first dose of the vaccine at Ohio will have a chance to win one million dollars, apparently there will five be prizes so a total five million dollars will be given for those that are willing to take the vaccine, and for those that are below the age of 18 there will be full scholarships being offered as well.

If they can give that amount why not, they are a rich state and they think that it will have an increase in vaccination, five million dollars is a huge amount of money and it's very tempting but if a guy made up his mind and it's against his will to get vaccinated, I don't think that $1 million dollar lottery can compel him to get vaccinated, there are people who are afraid of needle and they need consultation from a physical to overcome this fear.

I don't think there's anything to argue against if gambling there becomes something commonplace and in fact, they provide scholarships for minors and of course it's a big effort. But yes, there will always be disagreements in every decision that is made, because if the prize continues to be given then the conflict will be about the amount of budget needed and that can be the main point that might be investigated. But for me, as long as the vaccine is certain to be safe and harmless, then of course gifts like this are no longer needed because when the vaccine is proven safe, the next step is to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination.
