Among all of the current vaccines that we do have then it does depend on what type to be vaccinated.This is some sort of desperation step for its government on targeting that each citizen should
be vaccinated and its no surprise that majority would really be still hesitated to do so due to possible complications or side effects which i do even think off and thats why

While I think it is an absolutely brilliant idea to possibly get extra people vaccinated, it might be a slight waste of tax payer money. It will help to defend people that cannot receive the vaccine for numerous reasons if more people around them are protected against this virus. I had a Pfizer shot the other day and have been patiently waiting months for that opportunity. A great boost of protection from an extremely contagious and deadly disease that decimates the lungs should be the only incentive needed. The death tolls around the world should have dispelled any myths by now and we need to stop possible variants before they can out-mutate the vaccine.

actually, it is only one of their ideas or people to get vaccinated. a couple of weeks ago, an article was published about the $100 as Incentive to Get a Shot . from the recent survey of UCLA, they got higher percentage of response that if there will be monetary incentives for inoculation, they will do so. and just like the 'West Virginia’s governor, Jim Justice, announced the state would give young people $100 bonds if they got an inoculation' as per the same article
this, i guess, will indeed be implemented in some states just to encourage their constituents to get vaccinated. lucky for them, whereas, in other parts of the world, covid vaccine is still far from their doorstep.

I agree if we have this kind of offer to our country I am more than willing to take it, but apart from giving a huge lottery prize, they should educate their people on the urgency and importance of taking a vaccine, they should concentrate more on educating the people and make the lottery a bonus for those who want to take the vaccine, so far this is the only place where I read where leaders are giving away a chance to win a lottery for taking a vaccine, many places are going to follow if this turn out to be successful.

I'm against that. Health is not a game and shouldn't be associated with it in any way. Now people will compare COVID19 to a lottery, where the prize is to remain safe. I don't have a problem with it but I guess it should be lowered down a bit. $1 million for a single person in five weeks would be $5 million for only five persons. For sure, there must be other important things such huge amount of money could be spent on. Or perhaps they could increase the number of winners from only one per week to ten. I really like this idea. There are still a lot of people that don't want to be vaccinated or have worries and doubts because of it but 70% to 80% of the population needs to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. Therefore this campaign makes a lot of sense to maybe convince a big portion of the remaining doubters or vaccination refusers even if it is just for a low motive like the chance to win a lot of money.

Thats a pretty cool idea to promote vaccination and get people to get the injections. I just looked that the Ohio population is around 11.5m people, if we would say that around 7-8m people will get the vaccine than we have winning chances of 5 in 8m to become a millionaire, or better 1 our of 1.6m people will get the money. Vaccination is important. It literally eradicated some diseases that had the potential to be like COVID and now people are dragging the government on that.

What am worried about is :
People making fake vaccination cards , this could be catastrophic because the they could potentially spread virus in those casinos where the people with vaccination are not liable to wear masks.

I know right? There are countries which arent really giving out these kind of offers or some gimmick when it comes on trying to make out some vaccination of their own citizens.
Here on my place where vaccines where already available but there are no these kind of offers for people to recieved once they get vaccinated.

And this makes me also angry with the other governments that don't treat their people that well and also with these stupid people that are needed to be paid in order to agree to vaccination.

Ohio residents must be very happy to have a government that cares about its citizens, I hope other governments do the same thing the government

That's why it's very difficult for the COVID-19 pandemic to end, because I see that not many countries have seriously vaccinated their citizens.

Oh, a different view here. I guess the most important point to consider with having yourself inoculated with the vaccine is not that you will get the chance to become a millionaire but you will get immunized against the virus. For me, it does not even matter whether there will be all these privileges or none at all. The most important thing is that we are somehow protected from getting severely infected by COVID. Don't focus on the side effect. All the vaccines are approved because they're all considered safe to use.

I agree, any vaccine is better than no vaccine. For a single person a 50% protection might not be much, but if we look at 100 million people than it could make a big difference. Also with the vaccine it is not so much a full protection from the corona virus but rather a chance to avoid a serious illness. These people are lucky that a local government is doing this, here in our country people are fighting to get a vaccine, we are well informed about the urgency to get a vaccine, we have huge demands of people who wants to get a vaccine but unfortunately, we are lacking with supply people in Ohio should see what's happening in India and other countries where the spread is too high and the vaccine is very scarce so they will understand that they should take the opportunity to get a vaccine.

Every idea can be perfectly promoted if you add the touch of gambling while promoting it. 

As for the vaccination and Ohio, I'm not sure I'm 100% for this step. I personally want to get vaccinated and I think as many people as possible should get the vaccine. Yet, that's also a personal choice. Plus, paying $5 million tax payers money for this sounds unreasonable to me honestly. They could at least split the reward fund and give it to 10 or even 50 people. That amount of cash could still change someone's life and the chances to be a lucky winner for anyone will grow. If the money is given by wealthy individuals or corporations, then they can do whatever they like I guess.

I would be pissed off if someone gets $1 million from the taxes people pay, especially during the pandemic when many people lost their jobs and even homes. If you are having surplus stocks of the vaccine, then thank your government for that. Here in India, everyday I am witnessing deaths in front of my eyes. And in 99% cases, the deaths occur among the unvaccinated group. The government made a big mistake by prioritizing the elderly and middle aged (>45 yrs) for vaccination and as a result now most of the deaths are occurring among the younger age groups. And I don't know much about the Chinese vaccines, but Russian vaccines have been proven to be very effective.

I understand where exactly you are coming from. I do have relatives, friends, and even family members who are also thinking twice about getting themselves vaccinated. They do have valid reasons for it.

But on my side, even the doctors, nurses, and the leaders themselves are all taking the vaccine. So I assume there is really a good amount of assurance that the vaccines are more beneficial rather than dangerous.

I see nothing wrong with it and it will actually be an advantage since lots of people these days are afraid to get vaccinated. It will encourage more people to get shots in the said State because of the incentives. I don't know why people are still resisting vaccination. Already more than 1 billion people have been vaccinated around the world. If this vaccine was so bad, then millions would have died and many more would have become handicapped. Has any of that happened? There could be better approaches rather than this. They should have invested that funds to buy another supply of vaccines and simply build trust in the public so they could willingly have themselves vaccinated.

I don't believe that it is a "brilliant" idea. Those who are not taking the vaccine are mostly antivaxxers, who believe that the vaccines will make the individual impotent or result in other complications. A large number of the new deaths from the new strains of COVID 19 is now occurring in young people who don't have any comorbidities. If you can isoalate yourself, then it is good for you. But for how long you are going to isolate? What if the pandemic goes on for 5 years? Will you reside inside your room and never step outside for 5 years? Those vaccines, despite being rush, are clinically proven to be effective in the long run. There's no way WHO will just allow those companies to market their vaccine if it didn't pass tons of several clinical trials. It was well-funded.

The vaccine manufacturers such as Pfizer will not deliver the vaccines unless the governments sign indemnity bonds with them. That means that of something happens during the vaccination phase and the individual who is receiving the vaccine undergoes any serious adverse reaction, then the vaccine manufacturer is not responsible for that. They don't have to pay any sort of compensation, or even acknowledge those deaths. As per the indemnity bond, it is the responsibility of the government to provide compensation.

I find it quite interesting. However, it might be better to distribute several smaller prizes with a higher chance to win instead of one big prize. It is well known that especially poorer people are not so interested in vaccination. That is why $10k would be a big profit for them. So I would rather give away 100 times $10k with a higher probability to win than one time $1 million.

That is true. They are mostly the manufacturers and the makers of the vaccine and that's why it's easy for them to give incentives for those who will take the shot. I don't think that this will be a good idea. One million USD jackpot creates a lot of hype.. but the same amount of hype is not possible if the first prize is just $50,000 or $100,000. Also, the United States have already vaccinated half of their population, and therefore the entire process may be wrapped up in 2-3 months. Overall, I am not happy with tax money being used for this purpose, as I am not in favor of coercion. That's really true luck for that woman, she's truly going to be a legend and will be part of this history which will be remembered continuously in all of this pandemic. Right now it is the youth, who are behaving recklessly. Many of them are refusing to get vaccinated and they are not following the social distancing protocols and precautions such as wearing mask. On the other hand, most of the elderly population has reacted positively to the vaccination campaign, except a few anti-vaxxers. My opinion is that it doesn't matter whether they are targeting the young or old. As the proportion of the vaccinated population goes up, herd immunity can be achieved that sooner.

Even if some do not look with good eyes what some governments are doing with this I do not see any problem with it, those that do not believe in the vaccines are not going to get it no matter what, but there are others that may like to do so but they need a little incentive and something like this can be good as we need the majority of the population to take the vaccine so we can drop the number of people that die because of this virus to the smallest number possible.

Those steps can be a solution for other organizations, but they will think about adding more budget to buy the prizes if that is a product. If the private organizations are starting this initiative, then I don't think that anyone is going to complain. The main issue is when tax money is being used for the purpose (similar to what Ohio is doing). And in the developed nations, these prizes (such as motorcycle and television) mean a lot to people and it can have a positive impact on the vaccination rates. But as we mentioned several times earlier, at least until July, there is going to be a shortage of vaccines in many of the developing nations.

Two doses of the vaccine cost the authorities close to $100 per person. And despite the cost involved in procuring the vaccine and logistics (Pfizer vaccines need to be stored at -70 degrees), they are given for free. Now if some people are still reluctant to get the vaccines, then IMO they should not be forced. That may be possible in dictatorships such as China and North Korea, but I don't think that it will be practical in countries such as US where the personal liberties are considered very important. You can't force anyone to take vaccine against their will. The authorities can encourage the population with schemes such as this one, but forcing someone (either directly or indirectly) will have just the opposite impact. In a larger perspective, those who refuse to get vaccinated are not only endangering their lives, but also that of those around them. But at this point, using force or coercion is out of question.

The expense just because of this pandemic has growth a lot and many measures have been added, PPEs, adjustments of budgets and other things that has been added to the budgeting due to the fight against the pandemic. Personally, I find it really sad that the government has to put up a prize pool in order to convince those people to get vaccinated.

In the country where I live in, there are still a handful of people who think that getting vaccinated makes you more sick. The fact that the governor had to organize and to create a fund where only vaccinated people are eligible to participate is really sad considering that this is the only way in order to reach herd immunity.

It is right. The United States can donate the vaccine to the countries that need it. Maybe they want to make sure that the vaccine is enough for their people and they still have more stock if somehow the other people get infected with the virus. i see this is a good campaign....i think ohio was the first to do this and it's really a tantalizing attraction.  Ohio people are really very lucky with this policy, it really can change their lives 180% just by joining the vaccination program.

That would be an interesting question however I think it had an impact, there was a slowdown on the rate at which people were being vaccinated and when this was announced the vaccination program caught speed again which will most likely indicate it had a positive effect among those which were doubtful.

I am being told that the population in general doesn't trust the authorities in Russia. But the attitudes must change now. Because the Sputnik V vaccine is now approved in close to 70 countries, and real life studies (not clinical trials) have shown an efficacy ranging from 94% to 97%. If people still refuse to have the vaccine, then I can only sympathize with them. Heard that so far there have been close to half a million deaths in Russia. That is a huge number, for a country with a population of just 145 million.

People who have another disease will not prioritize first because they need to consult with their doctor before getting vaccinated. If their doctor said it is okay to vaccinate, they could get a letter from the doctor to go to the hospital and get vaccinated.

Yes, the virus already mutated to a new variant, making many governments worry about the spreading because it is attacking people. They got a fast reaction because of the virus. It needs more attention from people to always be careful, not going to the public if it is not necessary, and more care with their health. The virus attacks so many people right now, but the vaccine still distributes to people to help them prevent the infection.

Human life costs more than $ 1,000,000 ...

Currently, the planet Earth is being vaccinated against the Covid-19 coponavirus in many countries around the world.  How effective is this measure? 

I dont know. 

I'm a skeptic. 

We know very little about viruses.  In theory, the simultaneous vaccination of all inhabitants of the Earth (with a vaccine of the same type) can stop the epidemic.  However, vaccination cannot be carried out during a pandemic.  It is very dangerous to be vaccinated with different types of vaccines.  Vaccination cannot be partial, it must be complete. 

Humanity runs the risk of provoking a mutation of the virus.  Virus is a living organism.  His goal is to survive. 

It may not disappear, but, on the contrary, become more deadly and infectious.

In fact this is already over the last winner was announced the previous Wednesday and it does not seem as if there are going to be more millions to give, but it is fine, this increased the number of people being vaccinated and this is going to help the economy in that state to flourish while the people got a free vaccine to protect them from the virus, so everyone won even if they did not got money out of this.
