That would create another encouragement I guess. The reward is so damn high.

Here in our country, specifically here in our place, some of the perks of being vaccinated are; 3% discount on gasoline stations, a discount on some stores located here, a free food package, etc. Those Ohio people are lucky to have that perks.

But don't forget that it's not just about the reward but why should we undergo vaccination. Many are still in doubt but please DYOR and not to treat vaccines as negative just because they are "rush".

Congratulations to the guy. I wish him that he really would use the money wisely and not just on the things that will be spent for nonsense. Based on the interview, he seems like he's still dreaming that he just won the big amount prize money. He said that he'll use the money wisely so our hope has already been answered by him. People who have been working very well and hard deserve this amount.

In an attempt to increase the number of people getting vaccinated all kind of incentives are being given in the US, one of the most interesting is that those that get at least the first dose of the vaccine at Ohio will have a chance to win one million dollars, apparently there will five be prizes so a total five million dollars will be given for those that are willing to take the vaccine, and for those that are below the age of 18 there will be full scholarships being offered as well.

Personally, I find it really sad that the government has to put up a prize pool in order to convince those people to get vaccinated.

In the country where I live in, there are still a handful of people who think that getting vaccinated makes you more sick. The fact that the governor had to organize and to create a fund where only vaccinated people are eligible to participate is really sad considering that this is the only way in order to reach herd immunity.

From reading the comments, I noticed that there has been a declared winner. I do hope that whether or not he believes in the power of vaccine, this would affect people and convince them to get vaccinated soon in the future.

This weeks drawing saw entries from 3.2 million citizens (almost a fourth of the total population of Ohio) and it shows how popular this scheme is in that state. The opposition party members who opposed it without any sound reason should be ashamed of themselves. And vaccination numbers in Ohio are also showing a big spike. Won't be surprised if Ohio makes it to the top-5 list in terms of vaccination coverage.

If you read the articles related to the news released regarding the winners of the first lottery draw you will know, the governor himself calls the lucky winners to confirm it.  Tickets are drawn every Wednesday to win 1M and one scholarship per week.  Not all vaccinators are qualified so it is necessary to verify this first.  Is it too big to be disliked?  I don't think of that as a reason, maybe others just really don't want to take the risk and maybe they are still observing what happens next.  Because people also think differently about that, you just really need to think carefully because health and life are at stake here.  So when the right time comes for them and they have made a decision, they will also get vaccinated to their liking even without incentives.

The opposition to this measure is purely political in nature. The opposition (Democrats in this case) are having issues just because it is being implemented by a Republican governor. IMO, this is a very commendable move and the governor deserves praise instead of curse. Many other states (including tje ones rules by Democrat party) have now taken out similar measures to boost the vaccination rate. And one thing I want to specify here is that there is zero additional cost to the state treasury. The state of Ohio hands out scholarships on a regular basis. This time also they are doing it, but reserving some for those who get vaccinated.

So maybe sooner or later, the other states will use the same way to attract their people to vaccinated and if that can succeeds, we can see that most people will get the vaccine while they can also have a chance to win the lottery. The scholarships also help students have full funds for their school and do not have to think about how they will pay for their study. If many people want to get the vaccine, that will boost the rate of people who can prevent the virus attack and sooner or later, it could reduce the number of infected people in that country.

Agreed. Opposition parties around the globe has used the pandemic to implement their goals of regime change. Here in India also, a massive campaign is going on against the governing party. The government did relatively well during the second wave, but the campaign on social media was well funded, supported by many external players. And Twitter also played it's part by flagging some of the genuine posts from ruling party ministers, while allowing the opposition party members to post their fake news.

More than 2 billion doses of the vaccine have been administered till now, and only a handful of people have died from adverse reactions. And these are just official numbers and in many of the countries the number of deaths have been heavily undercounted (especially in India and Brazil).

I heard that they have tens of millions of AstraZeneca vaccine doses in stock, despite the fact that they don't intend to use these doses to vaccinate the American population (as of now, only Pfizer, Moderna and J&J are approved for American residents). Anyway, this is good news for non-Americans as well. Since there is an oversupply of the vaccine, we can expect the Americans to export some of that surplus to those countries which are facing a shortage right now.

It is right. The United States can donate the vaccine to the countries that need it. Maybe they want to make sure that the vaccine is enough for their people and they still have more stock if somehow the other people get infected with the virus. If that embargo is not open, I am afraid that the pharmaceutical company that produces the vaccine can not send the vaccine to other countries. If that happens, we might see a worse situation in many countries, triggering an increase in the number of people infected by the virus.

The most well known example of a jackpot winner wasting all his winning is Jack Whittaker, who won the Powerball jackpot of $315 million in 2002. In a decade or so, he wasted all that money and he was down to the state he was prior to the lottery win. Multiple family members died of drug overdose and other issues, and he himself had a lot of issues with the law enforcement. And last year, Whittaker died from unknown reasons. This is what a sudden influx of money can do to people who are not prepared for it.

What happened with the won money being intended for scholarships? Have they changed that rule? I liked it a lot because it's mostly youth who needs to be incentivized for the vaccination, and it's the youth who needs money for education.

Poor woman, she probably had spent it like a one-day millionaire. Didn't thought that money can easily be spent but hard to retrieve once spent.
