Haha, Elon Musk is being left behind with his Doggy Coin!
He's going to have an answer with that. He'll say that aside from Dogecoin bringing to the moon, he's going to take bitcoin too.  Tongue

He's too exposed for that Dogecoin shilling all over the twitter and he has to step up and lie down a bit and should go for bitcoin.

"Bitcoin exchange platform BitMEX has partnered with space robotics company Astrobotic to literally put bitcoin on the moon through an upcoming lunar mission that is expected to launch later this year."
These are just done to grab headlines and nothing else, what are they trying to achieve by sending Bitcoin to the surface of the moon, are they trying to be symbolic and make a statement for their business. Other than that i do not find anything useful with these actions other than getting a good promotion for their company.

What ever it may be they will be sending the Bitcoin wallet and then in the future let them do a give away for their promotion like anyone winning will get the Seed for the coins that is in the moon and so on, it is also another impressive headline that will make people notice as well.

wow if that turns out to be true then this is probably very good news for BTC investors as BTC has crossed the boundary of the earth and can fly into space, maybe Bitcoin will reach 100k $ at the end of this year?

Haha, Elon Musk is being left behind with his Doggy Coin!
The mission for Elon Musk would be have a pilot mini mining farm on the Moon. With some renewable energy on the Moon such as wind power. If SpaceX and Elon can do that, it would be a big movement to the Moon, technically.

The hardest part is not the energy supply but about the delay of signal from Earth to the Moon and back.
Quote
“BitMEX will mint a one-of-a-kind physical bitcoin, similar to the Casascius coins of 2013, which will be delivered to the moon by Astrobotic,” according to the release. “The coin will hold one bitcoin at an address to be publicly released, underneath a tamper-evident hologram covering. The coin will proudly display the BitMEX name, the mission name, the date it was minted and the bitcoin price at the time of minting.”
What are objectives of the mission? To promote and make noise for BitMEX.

So now it's going to be a race to the moon then? Well, Atrobotic has its sights on November 2021 to bring it. I think BTC deserves to go to the literal moon first before any other coin.

If you think about it at price, don't you think Bitcoin has been to the moon and back already??  Cheesy

Of course, this is all for the headlines. Sort of symbolic also. You know the old line "To the Mooooon!" This is it. Bitcoin is indeed going to the moon. But not literally though. Bitcoin stays on earth.

This may be pointless to others but it sure is fun. Aside from publicity that BitMEX will receive for sending Bitcoin to the moon, it also helps in promoting Bitcoin. This is no small way of marketing Bitcoin. This is not just on an international level. This is universal.

Elon will take care of Bitcoin on Mars.

A physical Bitcoin with its private key on Moon and run a Bitcoin faucet with that 1 Bitcoin on the Earth. It would be creative advertisement for BitMEX.

I don't think Bitcoin has its max price for this bull run. Back in the last bull run, 2017, Bitcoin has terrible months from May to July. It broke the cap in August and the rest is Moon, real Moon, not a crescent Moon.

Yes, it's a great advertisement for them. There's also a possibility to help them clear their name (with all the mishaps that befallen the BitMex name) and be branded as the first exchange to partner with a mission to put a physical BTC in space. It's a great approach really.

I don't think Bitcoin has its max price for this bull run. Back in the last bull run, 2017, Bitcoin has terrible months from May to July. It broke the cap in August and the rest is Moon, real Moon, not half Moon.
Well if we are talking about max price, why not going to Pluto or something the like? That's a better comparison to what the members here want. I don't get what you mean by "rest is moon" "real moon" "half-moon". It's doesn't fit any context for me.

This is meant to just compete with Elon and his Doge?  Its childish but for marketing I guess they could do it.
The news spreads probably to a couple of bitcoin news sites, will probably publish and maybe some finance channels will feature the company. This is good marketing for Bitmex for they have been behind already. Nothing to worry about that 1BTC going to be among the lost BTC because one day a Chinese astronaut will likely find it and will cash it out.

I doubt that can happen this year because if we see the price now, it has a big gap at $67k, and that is not easy to lift the price if there is not much good news. But I admitted that bitcoin could increase anytime and no need for anything to increase, and I will prepare my bitcoin for that moment.

Elon must plan something related to the BitMEX news, and I think he will not just watch, but he will do something. We might see a new tweet from Elon soon Grin

More and more good news is coming about bitcoin. Hopefully, that can help the price increase and bring more investors to invest in bitcoin. We will see a surprise from bitcoin later.

Aside from publicity that BitMEX will receive for sending Bitcoin to the moon, it also helps in promoting Bitcoin.
I don't think it'll have a significant impact on BTCitcoin [we're at a point that almost everyone has already heard about BTCitcoin, regardless of them using it or not] + after reading the following lines, it looks like one of their main objectives "might be" to put ridiculous price tags on their upcoming "limited edition series" coins:

Only one coin will be sent to the Moon, but a limited edition series of Bitcoin-loaded commemorative coins will be made available on Earth before the launch.

For anyone that's wondering how the coin in question is going to look, refer to the middle part of "this" page.

On the contrary, I think it has. Bitcoin still needs publicity right now despite it already entering the mainstream. And I don't agree that almost everyone has heard of Bitcoin. I don't even think 50% of the world's population has already heard of Bitcoin. And there must be a lot of people who have yet to hear or read something big for them to finally buy their first BTC.

BitMEX is earning several hundreds of thousands of dollars per day. I don't think one of their main objectives is to earn from selling limited edition physical coins.

This is just a good PR for BitMex and nothing more - a coin with a private BTC address can be anywhere in space, but it's just an interesting story that will surely confuse some people in the sense that they won't understand what's going on - because few can actually define what Bitcoin is at all.

If we are going to talk about whether Bitcoin has already left the planet Earth, some have obviously missed the news that we have a Bitcoin node on ISS (International Space Station) since the end of 2019.

This is just a publicity stunt from BitMEX, it doesn't mean much for Bitcoin. I guess exchanges are seriously worried about Binance's growth and market share, so they have to come with marketing ideas.

Maybe some day someone will launch a misssion to recover this bitcoin, because this would be profitable, although it might not happen in our lifetimes.

This launched for the moon in January 2024.

BitMEX created a physical bitcoin loaded with 1BTC to include on the Peregrine Mission One lunar lander.

Along with other time capsules and artwork etc it was intended to remain on the moon for future generations to discover.

Unfortunately after lift-off the vehicle suffered a failure, and eventually burned up in re-entry to Earths atmosphere.

I'm guessing the only copy of the private key was on the destroyed physical coin, since the address still holds 1 bitcoin:

it feels more like a cool PR stunt for BitMEX rather than an actual game-changer of crypto adoption. It's cool to see both missions represent just how far the industry has gone, but I doubt that this mission will actually affect the Bitcoin price. However, I still think it's funny that Bitcoin get to the moon before SpaceX, all that said, to be fair SpaceX has been successfully pushing the boundary on space exploration. And actually, Astrobotic the same company that assist BitMEX in sending Bitcoin was planning to send Doge to the moon last year, but there haven't been any update until now. https://ibetterfinancial.com/markets/crypto/astrobotic-to-send-physical-dogecoin-to-the-moon-in-2024/. So, maybe Elon want to participate for this mission of his favorite coin.

I’m not aware to this moon mission but it will be so good if this mission becomes successful because it will be an iconic piece for Bitcoin collectible.

It will hilarious if ever this mission went through while someone sent dust transaction on the physical coin address.  Cheesy

The idea itself is catchy, and it's great to see something like that, especially if it will succeed.
As it was said, it may be seen as a PR show, but for me, it's just something cool for BTC to happen  Grin

It failed.

Space craft was directed to burn up on re-entry after a mechanical failure. If there is anything left its at the bottom of the ocean in the space craft graveyard.

There's 1BTC lost to the ages.
