I'm wondering whenever it's worth buying and holding old coins for the long term. Primecoin is one of its kind with a PoW algorithm that contributes towards the discovery of prime numbers. It's a pity other crypto projects haven't copied its model.
There are some good old coins out there with real life utility like PundiX however as new projects are emerging, it is wise to learn from these older ones. I believe that these older ones are quite secure and much richer qualities compare to newer ones. However, newer ones like DeFi projects are hot due to its use cases and to generate passive income. Unless these old coins adopt and make positive improvements, they'll stay left behind.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I still remember at the beginning of 2018 I had 27k Dogecoin and if I sold it at the end of 2020 then I would get a lot of profit.
Old coins are good for long term investment but at the moment I only have a small list of coins and I hope there is a list of old coins that I can choose from like the OP has, then I will try to hold on to it for a long time.

With all of the hype surrounding "De-Fi" and NFTs, it looks like old coins like Peercoin, Primecoin, and Quark have been left in the dust. This is sad, considering that the aforementioned coins have a proven track record of stability and reliability. New coins are usually less secure than old ones. Despite the low interest/demand for old coins, they're still actively traded on the market.

I'm wondering whenever it's worth buying and holding old coins for the long term. Primecoin is one of its kind with a PoW algorithm that contributes towards the discovery of prime numbers. It's a pity other crypto projects haven't copied its model. Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
In my opinion, it's no longer worth buying old coins, let alone coins that don't have strong fundamentals. My advice is that you buy coins that have strong fundamentals and high liquidity. You need to know that Liquidity is one of the important factors that need to be considered before deciding to buy old coins or new coins. This is because liquidity can have a major impact in terms of exchange rates and future profits.

right, old coins are not necessarily good, many of them are not growing. to invest I suggest choosing a coin that is really trusted. especially new coins, beginners like me still find it difficult to identify a new project, many of them are scams, so we end up getting nothing. therefore it is better to choose the coin listed at the top on coinmarketcap

I think that it depends on the idea, if it is something innovative and useful, it is reasonable to hodl tokens of this project. But you definitely should follow the trading volume,as if it is low, other people are not interested in this project.

Also you should analyse their marketing: if they don’t run an ad and don’t attract public attraction, nothing will raise the price.

I don't think all old coins are drowning in crypto, there are still old coins that are very worth investing in, such as BTC, ETH, XRP, TRX and Litecoin, these coins still have very bright potential and progress, so they are worth investing in.

Old coins in the market are still worth to invest because they can still increasing and also will pump once the market will go bullish, sometimes because of the project itself. Remember in the first quarter of this year the market was bullish and many old coins pumping especially bitcoin we surprisingly it touched at $60k so for me old coins are still worth..
OP isn't talking about bitcoin, it is the king of crypto market and there is no doubt about the price rise of bitcoin. Lots of old altcoins can't flow with the bull trend of crypto market. Some of them become a dead project as the time flows. So, you should do some research before investing your money in any old project. Occasionally some new coins/DeFi project get huge success and take the position of old coins. Basically, it won't be a good idea to invest our money on any old coins which is going down continuously.

it doesn't matter to be on the old coin, as long as the coin is still active and the team is still able to handle the coin well. because we know there are old coins that still exist today for example cardano, litecoin, neo and still have potential. so don't hesitate to stay on old coins as long as you can analyze and choose good old coins

for an old coin that still has potential it's worth it. but for those who don't have and don't even have major developments, it's better not to buy. for example ethereum, litecoin, monero, and doge are one of the many old coins that still have potential and are worth investing in long term.

- Just look at the capitalization rates of the coins and the first two pages on CMC, the distribution of capitalization remains largely in the old coins, bitcoin is also an old coin but still occupies the first place, the next positions are also old altcoins, the capitalization of new altcoins is not competitive, sometimes they can grow rapidly in capital but they cannot store stability on the part of users. Users know which product's durability will be more suitable for them, new to them is only a temporary comfort

Old coins or tokens have proven to us that they can survive in a barren market. The high pump has already occurred and we can see potential assets and assets that rely solely on the hype from bitcoin.
those who thrive and get market support will surely grow well. but those who are dead without development may soon be removed from the exchange list.

The most important and time tested concept in life is change. If the old coins don't change their marketing tactics or business model then they're gonna be in trouble sooner or later.

The coins you mentioned are struggling in cryptocurrency market especially Peercoin but personally I don't think that these coins are on its last stage imo these coins may be a suitable option for long term personally I have expectations with Primecoin it's almost eight years old coin in cryptocurrency market and still trading with decent volume but the problem is it's not available on a notable exchange which is I think a main reason of its slow growth, the developers of Primecoin should consider to list xpm on a notable cryptocurrency exchange.

Old coin will be old coin if they are not evolve, so they are not worth to buy anymore if they did not do that. Cryptocurrencies related with renewal and trend, so IMHO, any project and company who follow that two things mentioned, they will be acceptable by audience.
It's a pity that the old coin like what OP said did not do much effort to evolve, i think they are too comfortable with their zone.

I highly agree that old coins are more stable and reliable than the new hype coins,de-fi and Nft's but most people are after making more profits and new coins are much more profitable than the older ones that is why there are more preferable.I can't sincerely remember the last time I bought old coins because I don't  make as much from them as the new ones .

Depends on the old coin and it's fundamentals The first thing you do when buying a coin is it's fundamentals and development roadmap There are many old coins doing just fine. Am not saying some with good fundamentals don't fail but is a good idea to follow that path cause you will be barely wrong but still choose your coins wisely

Old coins still has the potential but as they said that we should have to check first its website to check its status whether it still active and by there we can see its roadmaps and updates so we can decide to invest or not. Investing old coins without exploring is very risky.

Yeap, I agree with you, the only things to do to survive it's adapt with the current market condition especially some coins with mainstream use case but it's didn't affect some coin with unique use case (Something like Decentralized Storage, CDN, etc), There are tons of old coins back from previous year before that was turned out to die since they can't develop the coin to become much better and adapt the market too.

we have to check their developtment progress is it running well or stuck and didnt any product lauched so far. If we analize old or exisiting coins this is the important thing to check , don't ever we trapped in project that die in developtment and nothing to build.  Website could not be benchmarket the project still active or not.

snip...
I'd never agreed that legit projects will take time to show, no, they will surely make pump if they have the potentials and even no hypes happened unlike with the new projects.
Well, buying olds coins have the advantage as it was considered for long-term investment but have to be sure that old coins are not dead coins.
But for me, I'd never think about old or new coins, what is most important is that we are confident that we are investing the right and promising coin, not shitcoins.

Old coins that are not dead coins in terms of development. Because if you will buy an old alt where there is no more updates happening anymore, then, that's useless. Should always have specific use case and the dev team is still active with their innovations. You should always look at the application of the coin. Because even if they have noble mission/use case, most of them don't even get the audience they want.
Exactly, either it was old or new coins, we need to be sure that coins are still active and we can find it out once we do a deep search. It needs extra effort and is time-consuming but our goal is to sure that we are investing the right coin, the right project, which seems to be worth it. Thus, if we are lazy and just relying on other's opinions on what coins to buy, we are also not sure about our future.
