You have wasted a lot of time of you for chatting with them. We can easily tell any one or any project or any website as scam when the person, website or project offer us double profit from them. As it is offering double benefit it is undoubtedly a scam.

I did received offers like this, though most of the time I ignore them yet there are times that I played along just to get the boredom out of me

It is a common offer in online as well as offline. We should not give any concentration and ignore instantly without thinking which benefit we will receive or not. This types of scheme few people who join first may make few profit but rest (majority of the people) will loss all of their investments.

If I am not mistaken, you use WhatsApp to chat with the scammer. Hmm, I will not chat with them if they offer that such thing because that will end with the scam.

Nowadays, scammers can use many things and they can chat with you use an unknown number and offers interesting offers. Many new people do not know about this or even know that some of them are getting scams. You can block their numbers or report them.
