Hackers returns huge money stolen in biggest crypto heist

Poly network had put out a plea for the stolen etherium,binancechain and oxpolygon.
Poly network fired off a tweet saying it had recieved $4.8 million worth of the stolen assets back,hoping for more from online heist potentially valued at bout $600 million.
It was certain that the amount that was stolen was the biggest in the crypto forum to have been taken.The return of the cyber loot was maybe as a result of some security personnels scrutinising tracking the theft.Blockchain system defense firm slowmist valued the poly network heist at more than $610 million and put out words to the hackers trail..

Poly Network threatened police involvement, but also offered the hackers the chance to "work out a solution." The most shocking part was that the US Department of Justice and FBI did not respond to requests for comment.
Its very obvious that the confederation is not in support of crypto as much as the sovereign states .
And i keep asking everyday,.
What is thier point of view?
How are these people looking at crypto?
Don't they believe that maybe,someday,the world market will depend on crypto's?

Well, looks like a childish act from the hackers side on why they wouldn't it to give in a single transaction and just converting it to some assets instead of the hacked token. I guess USDJ and FBI will be in pursuit of this instead of accommodating a requests, just my two cents. We don't know their point of view but it's totally subjective if we asked them that.

Why should Poly just threaten police involvement?  They should just do it if they are really violated after all the cybersecurity they hired had traced the culprit and found his IP and email. It shouldn't be difficult in having the authorities come. 

However, if they are going to successfully scare the hacker by making him return all that he got, this is going to be a successful marketing promotion for the SlowMist security firm.

It's unknown since it's a crypto heist and hacking and usually, the FBI, if they're dedicated to working on a certain case, they'll go full on load on it just to track the criminals. I don't know for these hackers what's on their mind, they have returned a portion of it but that doesn't make them good hackers as hacking and stealing people's money is bad. And as for the FBI, they are aware of such incidents and they can't do that much on it if the hackers were able to launder the money and keep it out on track. Well, this is why most platforms should invest in security.

The hacker ultimately turned out to be some white-hat. Although cryptocurrency hacks are getting common, it seems that the law enforcement would be watching this closely. Even after a successful hack, the funds couldn't be liquidated as it is pretty straight-forward to backlist the proceeds. You have to wonder whether the Finance crime divisions would be like, "voila, thats the solution".

More like they're too much of a responsible of it to be honest, the tone of it is funny at all. Some childish white hat that instead of returning it in full he keeps on sending it by batch, we don't know the intention behind it but totally childish. Well, they got the hacker's identity as per Slowmists but I think if known he/she/they will be kept in custody. The PolyNetwork team shows how incompetent they are to be honest.

I think the hacker is already rich and only playing a game to make him famous. Or yet he figured out his gonna having a hard time to fully withdraw the funds since everyone is monitoring the wallet his gonna used. But this is easy for a hacker like him but still settle to return it.

i don't even want to talk about fbi or the police this is our currencies and our ecosystem but the problem is exchanges and projects have to try harder to protect it there is way too much money and hacks stopping the newcomers . by the way  hacker has courage . and god bless him for giving it back plus poly network should reward him good so next time next hackers could give it back too .

Whenever an hacker decide to return a stolen fund it's always because their information has been leaked and they noticed it, this is not a movie where hacks happens in just minutes this is reality and hacking isn't so easy

It's good that they return it back, I think they should reward the hacker a bounty reward probably for exposing the vulnerability of their system. I'm not quite sure if that will happen but I think the hacker still needs to pay its price for what he has done.

That's so unrealistic friend hackers stays away from been famous as far as possible, if it's a must they use nick names instead like anonymous, we don't know how anonymous are till date but we recognise them with their mask only, I think this hacker did some mistakes that will later lead to his arrest

why would they? most platform has their own bounty for pentesting i believe, so there's no need for him to steal those millions of tokens. he could just send an e-mail and tell them how he can hack their platform if he really wants to test the platform.

You have my respect, it's exactly what I have in my head as well, if you want to make thousands of dollars just contact the project and tell them that you are about to hack their security and make deals with them, they will gladly pay you for it, not stealing money and your information got leaked someone and you can't escape than to pretend to be a good Samaritan

What about sending funds to mixers? And doing it several times. Wont it help? Or crypto mixers cooperate with exchange and police?
The problem will be not just cash out, but cash out huge amounts. But, if the hackers can send to mixer 10-20 BTC and cash out them once a year, I think that wont be traceable at all. Hard part is - knowing that you have a lot of money, but can not use all of them fully.

Poly is thinking of a quick solution that would not compromise their operation more than what it already suffered. Can you imagine how long it would take to prove that the person they suspect as a hacker would be judged as guilty? They just want their money back so they could compensate those who invested in their platform.

Lol the last thing the hacker would want to do is "make himself famous". He released several QAs in which he mentions that we doesn't want to expose himself (was concerned about his safety). Not sure why everyone over here is calling him childish. He did it for "fun". A challenge is fun for him. He said he did it to show others how vulnerable the network is. He had a good point too. If someone from inside knew about the bug, they could have easily exploit it. If he actually returns all the funds, we can confirm his intentions were never evil.

Hackers never return hacked funds, I think maybe Poly network some team members involved in this hacking or the fear of investigation for hackers may returning the funds. so this is unbelievable if they returned $4.8 million.

Not really famous but to gain attention and seek recognition. Why do you think he is talking on his smart contract secret code message? Of course they used anonymous nickname (obviously) if you followed his story, then you understand what I meant. Yes he could be arrested if got caught. But I got a feeling instead of being arrested, he will be contacted by some hacker too or some firm to join and hire him as their core member. His skills are good but if he put it to good used Im sure he will be labeled as excellent white hacker.

In such rare cases, we could say that he doesn't need the money nor any compliment from the people. You're right he just wants to prove something based on his speculations. Now that he already proved it, they need to fully re-develop their security and hire some great workers to do it for them. If they will stay vulnerable as they are now, they will lose some investors or their trust will dramatically subside in the coming months. Remember when Binance Exchange got hacked and they quickly managed to find a way to compensate their users, that's what they need right now.
