Nobody likes to chat anymore or do crazy things

Damn't KY Jelly I messaged you like I dunno a month ago or two and you never messaged me back..so I'm trying to chat. We do really need Tman back for the crazy things part..some more KY Jelly/Tman dare challenges was entertaining for all  Cheesy

I also have had the collectors bug since I was a young kid.  I have been collecting both coins and baseball cards since I was 7-8 years old or so.  I can't ever see myself ever stopping collecting either of those things. For me when I found out that bitcoin had coins I was hooked.  The first bitcoin coin I ever bought was the 1oz copper anonymous mint coins that had a bitcoin symbol on one side and an Anonymous ( the hacker group ) symbol on the other.  I am infatuated with all 3, coins, bitcoin and Anonymous so it was an easy decision to buy a few tubes of those coins.  Then I started searching around on google and eventually came across Casascius coins and Kialaras.  Messaged both Mike and Max and got a response from both.  Max told me about the forum and that's when I signed up and was hooked.

Being a coin collector and bitcoin enthusiast I was in love with this type of collectible instantly. Nearly a life-long collector is why I can't see myself ever being fully done w/this space.  I think maybe that might also answer my question here, or some of it...perhaps many of the early day collectors were not that, collectors..they just were bitcoiners who liked the idea of keeping their coins on a fancy cold storage wallet but were never coin collectors or had the collecting bug like some of us do and that is why they didn't stick around.  Just a theory.

do you think crypto collectables are some of the best collectables of all time?

do you think crypto collectables are some of the best collectables of all time?

I think they are....for example if you take a godl coin loaded with btc, not only do you have physical godl but also digital godl in one place!

And that applies to all loaded items, as their value changes not only with the collectable item itself but also with the value of bitcoin. Unique!

Lots of members are OG for me.
When I see people registered in 2011 or 2013...  Shocked
When I see legendary status...  Roll Eyes

And I like to read old Casascius' thread or The Laszlo Pizza's thread or the "10,000 BTC Auction" (starting bid 50 USD... one day it will be 10,000 satoshi for 50 USD).

Bitcointalk is amazing...

As a lot of people here I have the collector bug: Vintage Nasa Photographs, Art, Stones, .... I have some 90's swiss stamps or some silver Federer Coins that I am ready to trade for BTC....  Wink

Stay humble and stack sats or cas'.

With out question I do.  Like I mentioned before I have been collecting coins since I was a little kid ( I may still act like one but unfortunately I'm now a grown ass man  Cheesy ) and once I found bitcoin collectibles I greatly reduced my collecting of other types of coins. These are just so unique, have an appreciating aspect to them that almost no other coins have etc.  I mean we already have claim to the most valuable coin of all time...that is pretty cool !

Frank it would seem that you have already figured out (and quite quickly at that) that just because you're a Legendary member here, it doesn't mean a hill of beans ( or however that saying goes).  The fact of the matter is there is a whole army of Hero and Legendary members here who are complete and utter buffoons who don't have a freaking clue about what they are doing or talking about.  However I do like bitcointalk a lot, and I'm glad I was able to guide you here my friend Smiley

I actually have just not been 'moved' by any new collectable lately. No idea why, there have been a bunch of "that's cool" but not a lot of "I MUST HAVE THAT"

The collectors who want to be OGs these days should be looking into NFT collectibles. I think loaded coins are cool, but they’re a bridge from the physical into the digital world. NFTs are the next step off that bridge and into the metaverse. Some really cool things being done around the sandbox project. NFT communities also remind me of the early days here, with talented individuals passionate to work together in a positive environment to build cool things.

You can find NFT communities by finding a project you like and reading where they conjugate. Typically Discord is the accepted norm these days, and Twitter is another great place to find and link up with likeminded folks to discover where they are contributing to their community. I personally have a slack group where I do most of my discussion on crypto, development, investing, & of course NastyMining.

We like the pepes and the monkeys (https://opensea.io/collection/onchainmonkey). oh and spells of genesis of course.

Also Primal Cypher and CryptoImperator for combining a coin with with NFTs. https://twitter.com/primal_cypher/status/1425101725187383301?s=20

Where can we find NFT community's?

The CNFT space (Cardano NFTs) is exploding right now. I strongly recommend that collectors don't sleep on it. Still nascent compared to ETH NFTs, but with dramatically lower fees than ETH (typically .17 ADA). You can find the secondary marketplace here (admittedly a work in progress): https://cnft.io/.

Ideally, you want to get in at the initial drop level, not the secondary market if possible. You can find info on drops here: https://www.wencnft.com/

You can see analytics on projects to discover good ones here https://opencnft.io/ and here https://cnftanalytics.io/php/legacyProjects.php/

Most of the projects have vibrant Discord communities listed on their websites. It is very easily possible to 10x your money if you get in at the drop level on good projects.

Okay, I'll shut up now.... Smiley

I am highly skeptical of NFTs.  Personally I think NFT's for things like marriage licenses, birth certificates, etc are a great way to store those types of things, but when it comes to art or trading cards etc, color me extremely leery.  My personal prediction is that the majority of their values will plummet eventually.  Charlie Lee and I were chatting about this kind of stuff the other day.  When the creator of Litecoin hates "collectible NFTs", makes you wonder.  I of course could be wrong, and I do think some NFTs are kinda cool and that some should retain their value over time, but how much is what worries me personally.  Just my 2 satoshis.

I think that the best use case for them right now would actually be tickets to events. Sports fans would I’m sure love to have a digital collection of events they’ve attended and knowing their tickets are legitimate, while it would allow events to profit from the secondary sales of tickets from scalpers. The fact that NFTs are doing so well and their main use case at the moment is profile pics on Twitter is pretty impressive.

One thing I've always kind of wondered is where did all the OG collectors go?  We have very few members whom are still active here that were around during the early days of collectibles.  Those who bought Casascius coins and BitBills when they were first released are the type of collectors I'm referring to.  I don't see myself ever losing interest in collectibles completely and just riding off in to the sunset.  I may not be as active as I now am at some point, but I just don't see myself completely being done w/this board and collectibles in general.  Members like Blazed for example.  I dunno, it just seems kind of odd to me that there are probably less than a handful of collectors who were around during the Casascius days who are still active.

I am still lurking in the dark corners of bitcointalk once in a while. I am mostly on closed groups on discord now.
I still have a love for Casascius coins, however trading them is not worth if for me because of the obvious difficulties with shipping.

Cheers ChiBitCTy, see you around, Feel free to PM me if you want to be nostalgic and talk about the good old days.

Cryptography is one of the few things you can truly trust.

Yeah I agree, that would be a very good use of NFTs.  That is the kind of stuff that I think makes NFTs a pretty cool thing.  The art or sports cards aspect of NFTs I just remain a skeptical of.  Like you mention those Twitter profile pic NFT deals.  I find that to be a bit silly, and I am shocked to see people spending as much as they are on those.  I just can't imagine that those will appreciate in value and or hold their value long-term.

I can see it actually with reference to the profile pics. Gamers are getting more and more revenue opportunities and I can’t think of a bigger flex then to be sporting a million dollar profile pic as an online gamer. They just need the infrastructure to improve so that games get profile pics from the blockchain that are verified instead of having you upload whatever image you want. I could see every professional gamer wanting to level up their profile pics to show off their level of success.
